Those who want to escape the bustle of Takayama don't have to walk far. From the Nakabashi it is only 550 meters to this nice park with a statue of daimyo Kanamori Nagachika (1525-1608). South of this park, the forest extends over the Shiroyama hill, a nice place for a nice walk.

Lovely park to climb and wander through. The castle ruins are just the area where the castle was, on top of the hill.

Nice views and short trails/hikes around this park. Also a friendly shop nearby and picnic spaces. Worth walking by if you're in town.

We actually stumbled upon this small Park on a bigger walk. Nice photo opportunity on the way out walking back to town.

You should carry something that makes noises when you walk here, because of possible bears in the area. However there is no sign that says this, until you have climbed the steep path to the park. Would have been nice to know :)

A really nice place to take a walk in the woods in (but that is because I love nature and I love a walk), not exactly a tourist place with 'things' to see if that is what you are into. You can get a panoramic view of the city though as you climb up. We saw a sign warning of bears displayed near the peak and freaked out when we saw a blackish animal. We talked briefly with a local lady and it turns out it's a Japanese Serow we saw 😂 thankfully she clarified it with the picture we took or we would have gone around boasting how we saw a 'bear' 😂

Amazing park / forest. Originally I thought it will be a city park but it is more like a wild forest. There are signs to watch out for bears but we have seen only serow. I would definitely to recommend visit this park. Very pleasant walk.

Quiet walk on the hills it’s just lovely. Restrooms were locked, not sure how to access them

Part of the takayama walking trail. Very pretty with a great view at the top. Be aware that there are indeed wild animals in there. A dog walker and her dog got into the Japanese serow's territory and they got very unfriendly and was trying to chase us off the park. We also saw racoon dog but thankfully not bear.

Nice park with some sights along the walking path, mostly dense forest which is nice and calming. Takes perhaps an hour to walk around the full park, on mostly gravel paths. There are warnings posted for bears, but we didn't see any.

Big, and I mean big park with lots of opportunities for a long run, a good walk or even calisthenics! There is the (very rare) pull-up-cum-dips bars at one corner, which is almost unseen in Japan. My family had a good time working out here. My daughter frolicked in the playground while my wife and I did our exercises. Very clean and safe environment and most suitable for the family. There is also a cafe there that enables you to reboot your system after a tiring session at the park. Just watch your calories though.

Great park with views across the snow capped mountains if you climb up to the castle ruins. Well worth the climb! The pictures don’t do it justice

A beautiful park with lots to explore, and a beautiful yet eerie hike you would love to experience. The hike is very well guided by signs 😁👍 Ps. Beware of bears 🐻

Beautiful park just south of Takayama with plenty of hiking trails. Well marked and well maintained and great for running and walking!

An otherwise lovely park is ruined by the absolutely mind-bending number of mosquitos and hornets. I simply cannot recommend visiting here in the summer unless you like being stung and bitten nonstop. The views are nice, but again, it’s all ruined by the ridiculous number of pests.

Beautiful walking trails in a wild looking park. Signage is a bit confusing but distances are short so not too worrisome. Take a photo of a detailed signposted map for your reference.

We drove to Shiroyama Park where we could take in the views of Takayama town. It’s a good thing that it’s winter and the trees were bare making it easier to see the beautiful panoramic view of Takayama town and the distant mountains. It is the site of the ruins of Takayama Castle and there is a statue of Nagachika Kanamori (founder of Takayama castle) in the centre of the park. Shoren-ji Temple is just a short walk away and its multiple small tori gates reminds me of Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari Shrine. I read that the Shorenji was originally built in Shirakawa-gô, a village north of Takayama. The main hall, built of wood from a single giant cedar in 1504, traveled through the area in 1960 when the temple was moved to be saved from the water.
