The Yamatake store/restaurant delivers an awesome hida beef. You should definitely come and try it ! We could not choose from the menu at night but instead we got to choose the meat piece which we were going to eat. The prices are around 7000 to 9000yens a very generous slice about 400g to 600g. You put the slices on the grill and add all you can eat vegetables and desserts.

A very cozy restaurant with great deal of Hida beef.I pick this place because they use charcoal grill and it is amazing. We spent 12000yen including a big piece of Hida steak, a bottle of sake, free flow of vegetables and tea. Reasonable price and I enjoyed their hospitality very much!!!

Quite disappointed. I have heard a lot of good comment and so expected a bit high. But the beef contain too much fat and difficult to chew. It does not feel melting in the mouth. It is not deserve for the price of 6000 yen

The Hida beef sirloin chosen and served by the restaurant's boss was had lots of chewy tendons. See attached photo. The Hida sirloin that I ate at Maruaki restaurant, the next day was much better.

Great quality meat nice owners but a little expansive

Absolutely amazing beef! Without a doubt this is some of the best beef I've ever had in Japan or America. Not cheap, but as they are a meat shop first and restaurant second, it helps keep it reasonably priced. If you're coming here looking for a wide variety of meats and side dishes, you are in the wrong place! If you're looking for grilled beef, then this is the place for you. Owner is friendly and speaks English which is a bonus for a bit of friendly conversation.

Hida beef itself is amazing but personally I don't quite find the place, the restaurant owner and the "buffet" to be genuine and worthwhile.

I adore this place and come back there each time I go to Takayama. It isn't really a restaurant, it's more of a butcher shop where you can grill your meat at the back. They produce their own high grade meat that's sold to restaurants all over the country, and this is their public outlet. Don't expect 5 stars service, this place is just about the meat and the rest is pretty barebone. But you can enjoy some of the best meat in the world at discount price! When you enter, you pick one of the massive slab of Hida beef in the fridge. You can either take it home, or pay a small cover charge (¥650) to grill it yourself at the back. There are drinks and vegetables available in self service.
