A deeply wonderful place. We took the deluxe menu and enjoyed the best sushi we've ever had. We've been to a lot of outstanding restaurants through europe serving sushi, but this one was on top. The deluxe menu featured 10 live handcrafted sushi by the chef, rounded up by a couple of makis and a clam-based miso. Fantastic. Thank you!

Amazing sushi bar with only 8 seats and local Japanese vibes. Eating at Monte Feliz feels like eating a private dinner by a sushi chef. The sushi was served one by one, and the experience of watching the chef artistically prepare every dish was priceless.

Awesome, tiny sushi joint in an alleyway. Delicious sushi course served by a very friendly chef. Prices are incredibly reasonable - even deluxe set was only Y3500. Highly recommend!

If you're looking for this tiny sushi bar, chances are you'll miss it. It's in the middle of a complex of restaurants, and not visible from the street. Once we found it, we very, very much enjoyed the sushi, and the whole experience, watching mesmerized as Shiba, the proprietor and chef, dexterously prepared all our meals. Like other reviewers, we felt the prices were very reasonable. Need a conversation starter? Shiba, is an avid classical pianist who is also training to sing Japanese opera on the side, though his first love is AC/DC.

I think 5 stars are not enough. Truly amazing experience and food! The chef speaks really good English and the conversations with him are so extraordinary! The best sushi I have ever eaten, with the whole experience of seeing how it is prepared + the book of intro to Japanese food and we were explained which fish we were going to eat. I have discovered so many new things about sushi and Japan in this place. Try Sake there! Really grateful to find this place. It is a bit hidden between small streets, but really a gem!

Must visit when in Takayama. Amazing sushi, go for the omakase. It's a little difficult to find, given that it is in the middle of Takayama's Dekonaru Yokocho. But that difficulty is a small price to pay compared to outstanding quality of the meal. Chef speaks great English and makes even better sushi. He is incredibly talented. Great deal too. Just as good as omakase in Tokyo, for a fraction of the price.

Superb top notch sushi, the overall experience was superb and enhanced by watching Shiba prepare the amazing nigiri … We loved this place.
