Good place to appreciate the tranquility of Japanese shrine. Famous for the thousand years old cedar. Fans of the Japanese animation movie "your name" shall not miss this place. Be reminded to prepare 5yen coins if you plan to make a wish. Getting and Leaving : not well connected by public transportation. There are infrequent bus running with stop here. Visitors who plan to travel by taxi would better download apps to call one. You're lucky if you see a taxi available for hire passing by... It is a 30mins walk to town without shed.

Beautiful place to get lost in, especially if you're a fan of Your Name or Hyouka! That's right, two massive hit animes in one location!

Popular spot especially if doing a Kimi no Na wa seichi junrei (聖地巡礼 – anime pilgrimage) in Gifu Prefecture. One of the torii here is famous as being an inspiration for a spot drawn in the popular anime film (see side-by-side photo comparison). This shrine is also popular for its cedar trees, particularly the Great Cedar of Hie Shrine which stands tall at 39m. This tree is assumed to be more than 1,000 years old already. Highly reco to visit this shrine when in Takayama regardless if a fan of anime or not.

Well maintained the shrine and the open spaces. Also, there is good description of the shrine on plaques.

A quiet shrine partly hidden by nature. If you are in Takayama during peak autumn, this shrine should offer a nice view.

I do not watch the anime this is linked to (I will have to start!) but this was a very peaceful and pretty shrine complex. I enjoyed walking around and observing the shrines and I was the only visitor, so it was nice to be in a quiet place.

Grounds staff are a lot of fun (little to no English). Shop has many things on offer (study success to romantic luck). One big A tree too.

Cozy restaurant hidden off the main streets, with an amazing set menu of local ingredients all made with love and attention to detail. Loved every bite.

Beautiful, and well maintained. The (free) bathroom facilities were handy.
