I stopped by when I was walking around the castle. Don't forget your stamp book.

西南戦争からの戦没者を祀る。併設の黄金神社もお詣り。時代の背景により護國を名乗れず飛騨大神宮との合併など経て飛騨神社とされ、昭和30年に元の飛騨護國神社に復称。駐車場が少ない。高山市。

A quiet shrine tucked away in the quiet streets of the mountain town of Takayama, near a nursery school and accessed over a traditional stone bridge and up stone stairs in underneath a Torii gate. We visited on a quiet evening as the sun was setting and it was lovely and peaceful. A large courtyard area in front of the the main shrine was empty allowing space to get some nice pictures. I suspect for special occasions this area is filled but then it was empty save for a bit of snow (mid April) and a Family paying their respects. Worth a look, amongst the many shrines and Temples in the area.

Visited this shine in August last year. There was a tribute to those who fallen during war. The shrine was decorated by hundreds of lanterns.
