Update: They serve the most delicious fresh herring filet with onions. Take it by the tail and devour the sweetness in one bite. So smooth and savory. Don't miss out on this delicacy as the season is limited. A small brick-and-mortar foodwagon without wheels dedicated to serving anything fish related that is deep fried to perfection. Friendly staff who will patiently take your order and make suggestions to better serve you. They speak English too, as most Dutch do. My wife and I ordered fish (haddock) and chips. The young man who took my order even brought it to us as we sat outside. Hot and fresh encapsulated in a crispy fried batter. Delicious! The couple next to us was enjoying a fresh pickled herring speckled with onions. I was told that this is the season for that experience. We're definitely going back to try it out.

Very very fresh fish! We had the Hollandse nieuw haring, and the fish were caught that morning. Definitely a great spot to stop if in Scheveningen.

Very poor hygiene, risk of infection and stomach problems. Employee was touching cash and my sandwich with the same hand, without washing it. This is not European standard in 21. century

Edit: I tried other herring places and learned that not all Dutch herrings are the same. This particular place is the best of them all. The other popular and famous places(in Amsterdam and other towns) had that smell coming from fishes that aren't of the same quality and freshness. In the future I will only go to this spot!!! Original review: If I had known that I'd love the Dutch herring so much I would have came more often and eaten this more often. It's so good and I think this place could be the best place for it. The staff here is no-nonsense, straight to the point and does all the job correctly, and the decoration as well as the location is fantastic also. Love.

This is not a restaurant, but there are many kinds of fish and many kinds of dishes with herring. Classic holland herring, if you wanna try it in Den Haag you need to visit this place. Only this place works after 8pm.

Asked for 4 herrings, 10 euros. Received minuscule portions and not even sure it was 4. I suggest expats to look elsewhere. Right across the street there is one of the Simonis , a big fish family chain who own multiple shops in town is cleaner, nicer to guests and will give you 5 big fat herrings for 10 euros. Also, the counter boys (straight out of Love Island Den Haag) make comments about customers. Place as a whole seems old and unhygienic. I am all about supporting family businesses, but sorry, not this one. Rating is 0/5 : just cross the street and go to Simonis.

This place was great for trying my first Herring sandwich. The atmosphere was pleasant and outgoing and the food was top notch and made fresh in front of us. If your looking for a authentic place to try Herring look no further

I was disappointed to find that the fish I had here wasn't as fresh as I had anticipated. Having previously tried delicious Kibbeling in Germany, expertly prepared by Dutch individuals, I had hoped that experiencing it in the home country would surpass my previous encounters. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met on this occasion.

Food is awesome! Cheap and really tasty. Staff was very kind and helpful. We wanted to try many different sea food and the guy working there helped us make the best combination.

I am a Canadian, the son of a Dutch Immigrant Mother. We are on a tour of Holland for her family reunion (she is 70 and has not been back here since she was 10). I've eaten pickled herring with her since I was boy and thought that was what I was in for here. They do have pickled herring but we tried the true salted fresh (ie raw) herring here. It was devine. And Rim (spelling?) is an incredible purveyor!! Thank you!!!!

Really nice fresh dutch herring! Had the deep fried mussels and plaice as well - can't fault it. Definite recommend, very popular among locals.
