Toronto Public Library - Scarborough Civic Centre Branch

Public library Library

🫤 nice library but rude staff. Was in the middle of working at a computer station and was told to pack up in the middle of my work to give my space up for someone else who wanted the computer, even though i was there first. First come first serve should be a policy, no special treatment for late comer... People often mention library, nice, staff, time, books, kids, space, seating,

A very lovely building architecturally. It's a smaller library, just one floor with limited parking. However, it's very neat and clean. It feels very open and airy with the clean halls and high ceiling. The kids area is cute !

The space is beautiful and designed to be very bright and airy, but is a somewhat smaller library with limited space as a result. There is, however, KidsStop area designed for younger children to play and explore. It also has bench seating and smaller tables and chairs for reading with the little ones. One downside is that parking is paid/metered, so unless you live in the condos nearby, it could get pricey if you're planning to stay there for a bit.

Giving it one star because a lot of parents and their kids here don't understand the difference between a daycare playground and a library. The staff does nothing about those people. Patrons are trying to read, study, and get some real work done here. Kids are screaming, running around, making noise, you'd think this was a playground and daycare. Library staff need to do something about the noise and parents need to tell their kids to get their act together.

The morning time is good. The library’s ambience is fresh however it all depends on the crowd being present. As it is close to the Scarborough Centre Station, it is fairly accessible. The real estate can be a challenge for heavy rush of the afternoon. I think they may want to utilize the space better and create more room for adults. I think a double storey building would be nice to have or a direct bus connection to Agincourt library if this library is full and Agincourt library still has seats vacant.

Overall TPL has very good standards and provides very good ambience for study, work or spend some time exploring books or surfing on computers. This TPL center has extra facility where they have innovation center and organize events for 3D printing learning and other tons of things.

Nice and easy to access from around. I spent my 2hours of waiting time for Mega bus, without any intaruption. Found some magazine & comfortable areas to seat. Didn't explore the hole area.

My go to library in my community if I want to focus on studying. Most people that goes here are college/uni students. Everyone are very respectful of other people’s space. DOWNSIDE: wifi is always down, so you need to use your own data.

They have the rudest staff I’ve ever seen in all TPLs. I was merely taking a photo at the entrance to show my friends what the lib looks like. One lady of East Asian ethnicity stopped me and asked my to delete the photo per TPL policy. Ridiculous!

Great design and ambiance. That being said, I wish the seating was correct on the TPL website. TPL says there's room for 90 people to sit, but in reality it's probably 20-30 max. That includes seating at the reserved library computer stations and on the couches that aren't great for studying. I know TPL reduced seating because of COVID-19...but why didn't they update the website accordingly? When making the trek out here, you have to cross your fingers and hope there's seating available. It's not very TTC accessible (Cutting through the civic centre courtyard is the fasted way, but treacherous in the winter because of all the ice and stairs). Parking is paid and also very limited. Staff are nice enough. I've both had, and heard a few run-ins with an irritable staffer, but it was never anything personal.

Very nice new-ish library. Shorter hours than other nearby libraries and all pay-parking nearby and monitored regularly by parking enforcement officers. Take your chances by parking at the mall, but it's a LONG LONG walk there and back. Also, main reason why there's a Police Post at the mall is because of high crime at STC... muggings, purse snatchings, pickpockets, shootings, vehicle break-ins...

Love this location. There's a little kid's corner where kids can play a bit but for now due to pandemic, it's closed. We can go in person to borrow books now.

Very subtle yet nice and quiet library in the city of Scarborough. It is convenient in the sense of being a walk from STC (mall) and in the hub of modern condos. The civic centre is also there just seconds away. Newly built and came here a few times. Election ballots also held here. Feels homely and nice. Recommend it a lot !

This library is very nice! It feels like I am in a park with all of the library facilities. I love it. The construction if this library is also different than usual, mainly wood and glass are used to build it.

A very cozy space to work & to read. The library is rather small and doesn’t carry that many collections, but it’s such a nice library in the neighborhood

Love the design and ambience of this place. The exposed wood, high ceilings and large windows make me feel relaxed whenever I'm there. The only downside was one larger, white, senior age lady was really rude to me one time and snapping at me one time when I was picking up my books a few months back and didn't have my card in me.

If you are visiting the Scarborough Civic Centre area, drop in to see the 100th City of Toronto Public Library that opened its doors in May 2015. You can get here using public transit or metered street parking is available on Borough Drive beside the library. I was here for that grand opening and took a tour of the facilities. This is my first trip back. It's a very nice modern facility with a view to the outside from pretty well anywhere inside. There is plenty of seating based on what you want to do while you're here. If you need to plug in your electrical device (e.g. cellphone, tablet), power outlets are available. Free WiFi access is available at all library branches. Enjoy this public space but be respectful of others too!

The exterior of the building is very designer. This is the only good thing about it. But the interior space, book collection, computer equipment etc. are very little. The book return point is also very old. It's not a good library.

Really nice staff and a beautiful library with lots of books, computers and quiet place to read. This branch also offers the free Presto card service. The stock does end fast but is replenished at the beginning of every month.

Best place for studies and book worms!! I'd say the only thing that needs improvement is lights in washrooms. I visited for the first time, it was so dark in the washroom that one couldn't see properly. It needs to have more lights!

One of the best place to read books and DVDs to carry home. Well maintained library. You can get print out in 15 cents. This library also has 3 D printer. You can also access to internet. You can get library membership by showing address proof and ID card. It's just take few minutes. Library staff is very cooperative. Outside of this library there is stop for Flix/Megabus.

My gratitude for the wonderful service you provide to the community. Every time I visit, I am impressed by the friendly and knowledgeable staff, as well as the excellent selection of books and other resources. As an avid reader, I appreciate the wide range of genres and authors available, and I always leave with a few new titles to explore. I am also impressed by the many programs and events that you offer, which provide valuable opportunities for learning and enrichment. Thank you for creating such a welcoming and enriching environment for your patrons. Your commitment to promoting literacy and education is truly admirable. Looking forward to more visit in future. The library is our go-to resource for movies. System wide, there are enough choices to keep us entertained for years to come. Even the newer releases are available within a reasonable amount of time. Why pay expensive monthly subscription fees when you have such great resources for free? As for this particular branch, it's right across the street from our home. Convenience is a no-brainer. More importantly though, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Just this morning one of the staff noticed I was having a challenge with the checkout scanner. Without any prompting, he came over and not only assisted me but gave me a useful tip on how I could better use the system myself next time. Again, the money we save on expensive, noisy, uncomfortable theatres as well as monthly subscription fees from the price gouging cable company, our local library is one of our most-used resources. And that's just for movies!

Lovely and friendly staff! They take time to explain you the thing patiently. They pick up phone without fail. They solve your problems like its their own. The hygiene and social distancing measures being taken at this place is one of the best!

This library is the worst library in this city. The staff members communicate very loud and the don't care when others speak louder. Please you need to understand that people come to library to find a quiet place.

I just love this library. Holds and pickups are hassle free. Today's activity bag for kids was really a nice way to encourage parents and kids incorporate STEM education.
