Very beautiful and large-scale architecture of the building is combined with a cascade of fountains and greenery. The building houses a magnificent collection of flora and fauna of France. Entrance is absolutely free, which is a great rarity in our time. I highly recommend to visit this location.

Palais longchamps is 5 stops away from vieux port. Very accessible and easy to spot. You can visit two museums: history and natural sciences along with beautiful parcs and a even a zoo. Palais longchamps is a celebration of the coming of water in the city of Marseille in 19th century. Nice sport for photo shooting.

The park is fabulous and absolutely gorgeous. The water fountains are very pretty and refreshing. Walking around the columns and winding staircases brings joy to the soul. The museum is good, but small and a little outdated. However in since the last time I was here maybe 8 years ago, they’ve added English and Spanish to the description cards. Great place to take great photos!

Very picturesque place to visit. Amazing architectural construction. People say it took 30 years to build this. Unfortunately, part of the front grass is a little bit dead, yellowish. Once you enter it, look up and you will see amazing details. If you go by car, park it on the streets around and don't forget to buy your parking tickets for the "payant" spots.

This palace is less so a palace and more a large statue / fountain which is quite beautiful and much larger than I anticipated. The natural history museum and fine arts museum on either side make up what was probably the palace at one point. The fine art museum was free when I attended and it seems it’s often free. It’s quite small but the collection is interesting and worth the time and I’d say I would pay 5 euros if it was required of me.

Such a beautiful place!! The architecture is amazing, very clean. I went on a Monday around 10 am and it was pretty empty. Recommend bringing some food for a picnic at the park

Stunningly beautiful building and fountain. Lots of outdoor area to sit and enjoy a picnic. Behind the building is a large park. A small natural history museum on one side, the other side has a small art gallery. Very lovely. All free to wander around in. Close to the tram line.

What a lovely place to visit. I was content just taking photos from the outside the gate but then saw it was free to wander the grounds as well. It was definitely worth the long walk there (or you could use public transportation but we had not figured it out yet so we just walked).

You have a really nice view of Marseille from the top of the stairs. A beautiful building housing two museums, both free for -18. An enjoyable place for a picnic and definitely worth visiting while in Marseille.

Nice and peaceful spot near the train station. If you have a wait for a swap in trains like I did its worth going to relax and get some food. Not been into either of the museums but they seemed busy enough so must be interesting.

The place is bit far from the old port around 30 minutes walking. The palace is located in a zone where roads are dirty, streets under construction and so crowded. The palace is inside a park and have a zoo. The palace is so beautiful, the architecture is wonderful but unfortunately some walls have words written on them. In general the palace is a good spot to make great photos , you can see around people taking professional photos ( instagrammers 🤩😹☺️)

Beautiful fountain with an amazing architechure around. You can also find one museum there which I didn't go. In the back it has a garden which is just a small normal garden, nothing special really.

Just a few minutes away from the city center, this place is most elegant and cleanest garden in Marseille. Perfect for photoshoots. It probably is the only place in this city without any graffitis. I feel safe hanging out here.

Fountains sound will dissolve the city one, sculptures are massive but very natural, bulls are holding an entire city the building is hiding secrets on seals of the massive and grotesque building. Behind it you will find a park that will reopen something that is hidden in you. Sit, relax and enjoy the view of the city through the art of the construction guarded by the amazing statue. I will not tell to you an entire history of this palace. Go, visit, explore :-)

A very good choice to spend some time if you're on a very short visit in the city. Beautiful gardens to sit, contemplate, have a picnic, do some city-sunbathing or reading. Fantastic views of the city and a fantastic palace to walk around and take in its history!

Such a pretty and romantic building. Don't forget to visit the free museums. On left-wing, the Museum of Fine Arts display 17th and 18th century paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Founded in 1801, it is the oldest museum in Marseille. On the right-wing, the Natural History Museum gathers several collections of stuffed animals Both entrances are on half ways of the stairs. Both museums are closed on Tuesdays. Someone is fixing the roof that spoils the picture viewing from the Basilica a bit.

Just visited the park to see the structure. The Gardens at the top looked a tad worn and outdated. Tipping during special occasions and maybe different season of the year might have some more colour and growth. Still a must see.

Place for good view and good rest. The Longchamp palais has a magnificent water fall. We rested on the stairs in the hot weather, also saw people sitting on grass here. They have museum inside the palais. If you don't have the time to go inside like us, have a quick walk up the stairs is good too for a day trip here. Hope you ll enjoy here! Bon voyage!

Remarkable place. Went on a cloudy day but I would expect this place to be much more serene if it was during a sunny sunset. Regardless, it was worth the trip and a definite go to if you’re planning a day trip to Marseille.

These photos are from 2011.The Palais Longchamp is a monument in the 4th arrondissement of Marseille, France. It houses the Musée des beaux-arts and Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Marseille. The surrounding Longchamp Park (French: Parc Longchamp) is listed by the French Ministry of Culture as one of the Notable Gardens of France. The architecture of the structure is beautiful! The palace is actually a water tower that was constructed in the 1800s to provide clean water to the city. It now houses two museums-the fine arts museum and the museum of natural history. At the entrance is a beautiful sculpture of tigers and lions

One of the most impressive buildings I've ever seen! There's a beautiful view of Marseille from the top. The Parc behind it is nice as well although the playground is a bit run down. I visited the Museum of Art there and it's good place to visit for art lovers. It's mostly paintings and a lot of them are of Marseille back in the days which is very interesting to see.

Place itself is lovely however it is far from the port, if you are going there with a scooter or bike be careful because you will have to go through some rough neighborhoods, even i was with my boyfriend i felt a little bit unsafe. We had to be extra cautious in that neighborhood. But there is a bus line right across from it i suggest to take that bus. Especially there are unlimited 24/48/72 hour passes you can buy from major stations and use in all public transportation.

I only spent 5 hours in Marseille but Palais Longchomps is definitely worth the visit. The water feature is unlike anything you will see elsewhere. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to visit the museum. There is also a little play area at the top for kids to play in while you take in the sight. The place is a little dirty though. I did spot a few broken glass bottles around.

  • 5/5 Caroline F. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful ornate building and grounds. The architecture and workmanship are stunning. If you wander up the steps you can also gain access to the gorgeous gardens behind. I didn’t get a chance to visit the museum as it was closed, but I still enjoyed admiring the magnificent palace and grounds.

Such a beautiful place. But behind the Palais, you may find a few derelicts. That was a good while ago, and it may have changed. Marseille was my favorite place in France. The food, diversity of the people, it was nice to hop on and off the train or tram, and I loved just shopping there.

This magnificent monument celebrates the ingenuity of bringing water to the city. In the center, a flowing cascade showcases beautiful statues of bulls, lions and tigers. To the sides, each of the wings houses a museum, one the Museum of Fine Arts, the other the Museum of Natural History.

A nice surprise down from our apartment! A beautiful fountain with such symmetrical architecture. Lots of space to wander and read about. There was a jazz festival going off with lots of signage telling you it's an Eco-Planet-friendly event. We returned at night to see the lights reflect off the water. Plenty of light, shadow and shade on a hot day and areas to sit and wander. Climb to the top to enter the free park and toilets. We didn't go into the museums but saw they were well organised and secure. We had a coffee at the cafe next to it just so we could glance further!

Extraordinary museum in the city center of Marseille. The building is divided in two parts, in one side you find the beaux arts museum with a classical collection of art with very amazing pieces and at the other side is the museum of natural art, full of taxidermy and a very impressive collection. These two museums were for FREE so no entrance required (I don’t know if that’s always the case but when we were there it was like that) Yet there was not too many people inside. Totally recommended to add to your visit when you’re in Marseille or in the area :)
