Ah, Istanbul, a city of delightful surprises and culinary wonders. After days of indulging in meat-centric dishes, my wife and I found ourselves yearning for the treasures of the sea. Naturally, we turned to the ever-reliable Google to guide us to the finest fish in town. And lo and behold, there it was, gleaming at the top of the search results—Murat the fisherman. Stepping into Murat's establishment, we were immediately greeted by an amusing sight. Mr. Murat himself, the proud owner, had donned an attire reminiscent of the iconic Mario Brothers—a clever marketing ploy, no doubt. With a lighthearted chuckle, we knew we were in for a unique experience. Nestled amidst shops peddling building materials, the restaurant presented an unexpected backdrop. As luck would have it, the ground floor was brimming with patrons, leaving us with a serendipitous opportunity. The son of the owner kindly offered us seats on the second floor, little did we know that these would be the prized perches affording us a mesmerizing vista of the majestic Bhosporus. As we settled into our elevated abode, our eager taste buds braced themselves for the impending feast. Our culinary journey commenced with the delectable fish kebab, a symphony of flavors that left us yearning for more. Tender morsels of succulent fish, expertly grilled and infused with aromatic herbs and spices, danced upon our palates. Each bite revealed a harmonious blend of textures, a delightful chorus of tenderness and crispness. Not content to stop there, we embarked upon our next conquest—the mackerel. Delivered to our table with flair, it was a sight to behold. Freshness radiated from its glistening skin, a testament to its aquatic origins. One bite, and we were ensnared in a whirlwind of oceanic pleasure. The flesh, firm and succulent, yielded effortlessly to our eager teeth, releasing an explosion of flavors—hints of brine and the delicate whisper of the sea. With every forkful, we reveled in the mastery of Murat the fisherman. His culinary prowess transformed humble seafood into art, reminding us of Istanbul's bountiful coastal heritage. It was a culinary escapade that left an indelible mark on our palates and hearts. Should you find yourself wandering the vibrant streets of Istanbul, yearning for a respite from the carnivorous offerings, I implore you to seek out Murat's sanctuary. Ascend to the second floor, claim a seat overlooking the majestic Bhosporus, and allow the sea to enchant you with its flavors. The fish kebab and mackerel await, ready to transport you to a realm of gustatory ecstasy. Trust me, my friends, this is an experience you do not want to miss. Highly recommended.

Visited Murat the Fisherman at Karakoy waterfront (right behind the fish bazaar) and tried their signature dish, ‘balik ekmek’ – a grilled fish sandwich. It exceeded expectations and I now understand the hype around this place. Murat himself was there, serving with passion. Despite not being a regular fish eater, I’m glad I tried it; it was truly amazing!

Not sure what the complaints are about. Had the fish doner wrap and it is delicious & fresh - whole fish slices (mackerel I think) were used. 100 tl per wrap as at Oct 2023. Dude wearing Mario costume cooking. Friendly.

It is definitely the best fish kebab I've ever had and I lived in Istanbul for long time ! 🤤 Delicious fresh fish wrapped on a tick durum bread braised on the same place where the fish was cooked, giving it an incredible flavour indescribable!! Super funny and happy man, always ready for a picture with us and loving his job every day 😍 Please have a sit and try 😀

This is one of the best local spots in the city. Truly recommend going there. Amazing fish wrap, you won't regret plus the price is very good. We ate twice here. They have very noce spice mix which they put in wrap that's what makes it sooo unique(it is not spicy). Just try to get here before evening so full menu will be available.( they always have fish wrap tho)❤️

Boneless grilled half of a whole mackerel fish wrapped in crisp doner bread, infused with local herbs, fresh onions and pickled veg for 100tlr. Honestly the unique wrap around here, among all the usual meats of lamb and beef. Fresh fish is painstakingly grilled and bones removed on the grill, and though it takes around 10 mins for one wrap to be cooked and assembled, it is so worth the wait. It’s along a dark alleyway so it does look a bit dodgy but the restaurant is brightly lit in the midst of this alleyway. Mr Murat does look like one of the Mario Brothers, complete with the MB costume and thick mustache!

I can honestly say the sea bass wrap was the best I have tasted and prepared by expert hands with passion. All washed down with a freshly squeezed orange juice. You just have to visit.

Place is pretty good I visited it several times of course it's great when maestro himself cooking the food in this case you can feel the greatest taste of the balik dürüm full if vegetables and the fish with a awesome souce. Unfortunately the price is higher and higher, from 2 dollars to 3-4 but there's nothing we can do. Thank you
