Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha went on an expedition to Hungary on April 1, 1683. Sultan Mehmed the Fourth comes to Belgrade with the grand vizier. From here on, Kara Mustafa Pasha is appointed as serdar-i ekrem. Merzifonlu convened the war council in İstoni Belgrade on 27 June 1683 and said that his target was the Beç (Vienna) castle. Although experienced statesmen oppose this decision, Kara Mustafa Pasha does not listen to anyone. While he was around Yanıkkale, he sent a letter to the sultan, informing him that he was in Vienna. The sultan, who was surprised by Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha's attempt to besiege Vienna without consulting him, when he received this news; "Our destination was Yanık and Komaron castles. There was no talk of going to Vienna. How strangely disrespectful did the Pasha fall in love with Vienna? May God make it easy, but if he had said it beforehand, I would not have allowed it." he said. Even though the Grand Vizier comes to Vienna, he is not prepared for the siege. In short, conquest is not possible. The Ottoman army is forced to retreat to Belgrade. Kara Mustafa Pasha, one of the great commanders, wanted to open the gates of Vienna himself, which Suleiman the Magnificent wanted to conquer. However, he was not successful.

This social complex is a madrasah in Çevrelitaş, the construction of which was started in 1690 by Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha and later completed by his son. Today, the Istanbul Conquest Society and the Yahya Kemal Museum are located in the complex. Getting here is very easy to find the madrasa after taking the tram to the Beyazıt stop and walking a very short distance. One of the well-preserved works, I recommend you to come and visit it.

The construction of the social complex on Divanyolu street was started by Grand Vizier Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha before 1094 (1683), and upon his death, his son Ali Bey had it completed by Architect Hamdi in 1102 (1690-91). A library was also established within the madrasa of the social complex, which consisted of a madrasa, a private teaching institution-masjid, a primary school, a public fountain, a water tank, shops and a hazire that was formed over time. The structures that were destroyed in the earthquakes of 1837 and 1894 were repaired in 1842-1843, 1861-1863 and 1895. During the road expansion works carried out in 1953-1954 of the complex, which was occupied by the harîkzedeler in 1918, the shops adjacent to the facade were demolished, the fountain and its graveyard were moved to the east, and the courtyard gate was moved back. After it was restored by the Foundations Administration between 1960 and 1964, the fountain was rented out, and its other parts were allocated to the Istanbul Conquest Society, Yahya Kemal Institute and Kubbealtı Academy Culture and Art Foundation.

(Translated by Google) Photos belong to pre-restoration. I don't know how right now, the pre-restoration garden was a place that gave peace away from chaos. (Original) Fotoğraflar restorasyon öncesine ait. Şu anda nasıl bilmiyorum, restorasyon öncesi bahçesi karmaşadan uzak huzur veren bir yerdi.

Kara Mustafa of Merzifon is one of the successful grand vizier in the Ottoman Empire. He was not successful in the 2nd siege of Vienna and had Mehmet IV executed. We do not even know that a great grand vizier was sleeping while passing by the tomb. Let's know our history...
