I was pleasantly surprised when I visited this museum. There was no entry fee, so completely free to learn about the history of leather in Walsall and the West Midlands. The museum is small but filled with history. Just a short walk from the town centre and the Walsall Rail Station. There is a small cafe on site so you can sit and eat. What I found is that a lot of people don't realise that there is a picnic area on one side of the building that is rarely visited. It is very easy to miss this gem if you are not looking, but worth the time to explore.

Visited as part of a group, whilst it's free to go and have a look around we were given a tour by Ian. Ian is a very knowledgeable bloke who was very patient with our elderly group, nothing was too much bother. The highlight of our visit for some of the group was the making of personalised keyrings which they made themselves. Well worth a visit. Additional notes - just been back for another visit, this time with the wife. Still every bit as good as the first visit. There's an interactive touch screen TV in the cafe/lobby area which explains a lot, it's well worth having a read through before touring the museum as it explains a lot.

Excellent crafting session that had a brilliant atmosphere and was good value. All the staff around the museum were lovely. All 3 kids (3, 4 & 7) had a fab time both crafting and looking around the museum and making their own keyring.

Nice little museum, free to get in and can make your own leather key ring for 60p

My review is purely about the 5* hygiene rated cafe at the museum (located around the side). The cafè is called Claudia's Kitchen and the food is always amazing, the staff are polite🖒🏼 You have a wide range of choices from a selection of cakes and sandwiches, jacket potatoes, traditional Jamacian dishes like jerk chicken, rice n peas and much more; available on different days! The museum and cafè are both closed on Mondays and Sundays however open ever other day in the week😍 until around 5pm. The only downside for me is that there is no parking facilities close by to access cafè, except Tesco's where you only get 30mins free then spend £5 in Tesco's.

Friendly customer service and lovely high quality hand made local leather goods for sale in their shop. Great place to learn about leather craft and local history production of leather.

Really lovely staff, extremely welcoming, with interesting displays and a nice shop with handmade items. The museum is a very manageable size so is not overwhelming (nevertheless, there is certainly enough information and history packed into the place!). I went with my mum and sister and we were all extremely impressed, agreeing that we should definitely visit again!!

I took our playscheme to the Leather Museum there was 16 of us in total age range from 7 - 17 we had an incredible time. There was lots of activities for the children to do! I have never been before but David and Francesca were very accommodating and we used the equipment to make leather key fobs and the older children sewed leather love hearts and our young ones made dragons! We had a wonderful time at the museum! The staff were superb and very informative! hope to visit again soon!

Paid a visit here today, I have been trying for many years. Wow it was definitely worth it. I assume it is run by volunteers the guy that showed us around today Ralph was very informative he explained all processes in detail. We were surprised how many quality products were and are still made in the area. All of the staff were very helpfull and we can recommend if you are close by to pay a visit. Another volunteer Awais spent a long time explaining how he got involved with the museum and he has now persevered and had been taught the trade producing some very impressive items. We look forward to another visit in the near future. This museum is a hidden gem. Situated on the outskirts of Walsall it was a delight from the minute we walked in, the staff were lovely (forgot to ask their names but they all informative and welcoming), the exhibitions are fascinating, there is an opportunity to make a leather key ring (60p! An absolute bargain), the shop sells beautiful leather goods, and the smell of leather permeates throughout the whole museum.

First time visiting here today and was pleasantly surprised. It's free! So worth visiting if your around the Walsall Town area. My girls got to make a key ring, which they had the choice of around 50 different designs to press. They got to use the machines and really enjoyed making a keep sake they can cherish. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Was informed that they have a fair few craft workshops on, so well worth keeping an eye out for those. Will defiently be visiting again and will look into joining onto more of the craft sessions in the near future. All round, a nice little museum all about leather, great how it is free of charge to enter.

I have visited this museum on many occasions and consider it a must see for anyone who comes to visit. The initial doubtful response we get is usually replaced by increasing curiosity especially when reacting with the very skilled and informative staff demonstrating turning leather into goods. It seems almost any animal skin can be made into leather with the appropriate process. You will learn that although Walsall became to be known throughout the World for it's skilled workers in leather it was the production of lorinery where it all started. Definitely worth a visit.
