One star, not because it's not a nice garden, but because they started to charge for the garden which used to be free, at least during peak season. They justify it with the 'musical shows' that are in the gardens during peak season. It's basically just loudspeakers playing way too loud classical music, that is often more disturbing than nice. Charging several thousands of visitors per day, approx. 12€/person, they should be able to afford a full orchestra in the garden instead of some loud speakers that repeat the same tune every few minutes. If you want to make money off the gardens in the peak season then just do it, but dont claim that visitors are paying 12€ only for this loud music to play.

I adore France for its Great Love for Beauty ! The park and fountains are a logical continuation of the Palace Magnificence. The only inconvenience is quite long walks on gravel paths, with an emphasis on gravel! Does modern technology really not allow you to come up with a coating that is more gentle for elegant shoes ??? Not everyone likes to walk among this Beauty in sneakers.

Worth the visit! Absolutely lovely way to spend the day. Touring the gardens where royalty use to walk and play.

DO THIS - Take a bottle of wine, a fresh baguette, a wedge of cheese, a blanket and plan on staying all afternoon! How can this place not get 5 stars...the gardens are amazing! Walk them, lay in them, take a boat ride, explore, just hang out for a day in the gardens of Versailles. There are very few places like it and it's a great escape from the city. Just the planning alone that went into creating such a magnificent place...it's worth a visit and it's worth at least half a day!

Extremely dull gardens and underwhelming. Central Paris has many gardens that are better kempt, hold more interest and are free. It appears that the garden are free during the autumn and winter, but charge for entry during the spring and summer (about 8 euro). They appear to justify this by promising 'musical gardens', which really just means that they pump classical music through speakers dotted around the place... There is no live performance. The printed guidebook, available at the venue, also promises that water features will dance in time with the music - but when I went, only one water feature danced with music while another was simply on all the time (no music) and another had no music... Moreover, the majority of the water features were not even on - so you just traipse from one bowl of tepid water to another... Furthermore, the entire upper section of the gardens were closed off as a stage was being set up - yet we still paid the full fare for entry! The gardens themselves were extremely dull. I know this is not the fault of the venue itself - it reflects how the gardens were historically - but the repetitious mathematical planting and ceaseless green with no other colour is tiresome. No texture, no interest, very little water, very little music... Toilets and cafés are few and far between. Personally, would recommend giving this one a miss.

We visited Versaille Palace today and it was an ok experience. The gardens aren't fully their best when the sprinklers are turned off and unfortunately this was the case when I visited. The castle might be the most popular in France but having bought Garden tickets online after reading the restrictions page which shows the Garden and Park 'can' be accessed with pets on leads, it was disappointing to learn that only the park, which is in no way comparable to the gardens, was accessible with a dog. There are varying instructions on their website where it states dogs are allowed in the gardens as attached and in another place states that dogs are not allowed.

Very beautiful garden with spectacular view all around particularly with masterful geometry, which really impressed us. One can take Gardens Golf Cart Tour, however, must get off the cart to explore the areas you want to see. One can enjoy the great view of the Palace of Versailles from the garden. There are some really impressive fountains (follow the timing for the play of water jets to music). We visited this place twice (April and October). The place is crowded. We spent a very memorable time and the visit was priceless.

I've been in the garden twice and still haven't visited it entirely. It's a nice place to walk around and admire the growing grass and flowers and the shows of the water. The entrance is not free but you can have discounts on the tickets whether you're a student or you buy them online

The whole area was so splendid and full of people during summer. Try and go as early as possible because the queue outside might be quite long due to its popularity. You lost some time from queuing up. The garden was the biggest I have seen in my life.

We came on a Saturday so the entrees is not free. It was 11 euro for each person but for us it was included in the 27 we pay for the place. The gardens are beautiful, and huge. I will recommend at least half a day just for them. We got a map with 2 path: a morning one and an evening one. We didn’t understand the difference but know I can say that the fountains on the path work based on the time of the specific path. So do consider visit the gardens at mid day so you can see both. Keep in mind that the fountains works only during the weekends.

Beautiful gardens but definitely much prettier in the spring and summer. I visited in the early spring (beginning of April) and there weren't any flowers, and many of the plants hadn't been planted for the season yet. I would guess that the best time to come in during May or June. Also there are a few food vendors in the gardens, however they seem to run out of food throughout the day so make sure to come early otherwise you will need to leave the gardens for food.

Incredible gardens best experienced in spring and summer. Often not super crowded. Somehow there was fresh squeezed orange juice being made in a random junction between paths near the water features. Just an overall wondrous other-worldly experience. Quite a place.

Best experience in Paris so far. Gardens very well maintained. Unique Royal French style. Musical gardens are an absolute amazing experience. You feel like you're back in the baroque times wearing those nice wigs. Accessible paths for strollers and pushcars (lift or ramps), something rare to see in Paris. Good options for a lunch break. Fountains are specially beautiful. Had a very nice time there.

Went here on our first day in Paris. Very worth it! Tip: Buy your tickets in advance. A Lot of people are waiting for tickets outside. Tip 2: bring water and some snacks with you. Queue for restaurants are really long. Tip 3: wear really comfortable shoes you can walk on for 3-5 hours. Enjoy and wear your sunscreens!

Beautiful gardens but very big, need a whole day to walk through them. The E-car and bike rental is too much trouble. The mini trains had long lines, also stop running early and no way to pay with card.. definitely hard to go during high summer, hard to find vendors selling water, etc…

*Stunning* I think it's the perfect word to describe this place, but you need one or two days to walk all the palace because around it you can find 15 gardens or more, forests, houses, orchards, etc. I couldn't see everything because I had a flight and I didn't want to miss it. I'm going to comeback definitely! Please don't let pass the opportunity too see this place!!

Nice place for a stroll. Gives one perspective of the opulent lives royalty had back in the day. I'd like to point out if you want to take the train ride to get the tickets from the ticket booth and not from the obnoxious train drivers! If it was not for the gardens and everything else there I wouldn't even bother to give any rating.

So it's definitely an impressive park, but it's also just a bit disappointing. The view of the palace from the outside is very impressive, and very much worth the money, the view across the Gardens is also very nice, but going around all the individual fountains becomes repetitive very quickly. Many of the fountains are not active, quite a few of the gardens are sadly not very well kept. The statues are impressive individually for sure, but they all are and with the mass of them, they start to look the same quite quickly. You can spend about 3-4 hours in the garden if you take quite a few pictures and stop here and there. Recommend to take the route in the guide they provide. It takes you along the most important points in these vast gardens. The entry fee is moderate but okay. It wasn't too crowded when I visited, the masses spread out quite well. It's definitely worth a visit but just don't expect a ground breaking park. It's mainly just big, impressive and culturally important.

I love history and was lucky enough to have Marta from city wonder tours to guide us. She was super knowledgeable, thorough, and patient. Her English and Spanish were both very good and she was very positive. This tour was longer then I expected at nearly 4 hours but there Isa nice Cafe and shop. The palace of course Isa wonder but the gardens are worth seeing too! It's very warm. Very.

It's a beautiful place to visit, even if you don't have time to visit the palace or if you already did. You have to be prepared to walk if you haven't got a golf car, and you should make decisions on which parts of the gardens you want to see since they are really big. Most definitely, the gardens will reward you for your tiredness, and you will get the feeling that you are in another time.

This place was beautiful! I can't imagine what it takes to keep it looking so beautiful! It's so big! The golf cart rental wasn't really worth it because of the strict restrictions and the price. They also have extremely low governors to the point you could walk faster. You have to get off the cart and walk into the areas you want to see. Being the cart goes so slow, if you took that time to walk and see things you end up paying a lot more for the car rental. Anyway, I would definitely recommend checking out the gardens if you get the chance.

The Versailles Orangerie was built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart between 1684 and 1686, replacing Le Vau’s design from 1663 - that is to say, before work on the palace had even begun.

The Petit Trianon or more commonly known as Marie-Antoinette's Estate is a really cool place to visit after you leave the main palace grounds. It is about a 20 minute walk to this Palace and really cool. It has a very nice garden that is attached to it. I loved checking out some of the tunnels and even seeing the actual dinnerware that the queen used. Very cool place if you have the time to check it out.

Make the extra effort to visit! In some ways I preferred this to the Versailles Palace because it’s quieter and more serene. Yes the main Palace is more grand, but the glut of tourists and intense queue to enter detracted from the experience. Admission: bought the full Versailles ticket reservation including Trianon (Marie Antoinette estates), which open at 12pm. Fairly short wait to get inside at 1pm when I arrived. You can walk here through the Versailles gardens, perhaps 20-30 mins depending on your route. There is also a rail car but you have to pay a small fee

Absolutely loved the gardens of the Château de Versailles. Such wide open spaces, opulent golden fountains, lovely place to walk on a dry, sunny day! 😁 It is even possible to get away from the crowds in the gardens if you're lucky. The fountains seem to be on timers so if they're not on when you get there they should come on again after a while. Make sure you pick up a map of the gardens so you can make the most of them (and not get lost! 😁) Highly recommended...

Loved it!!! Walking through the doors of Versailles Palace and Versailles gardens was an extraordinary experience for me. If you visit Paris, please reserve a day for this objective. You can go to Versailles very easily by train. Make reservations online and do not be scared about the big queues (it moves quite rapidly).

This must be the largest garden I have ever been to. The amount of maintained land that is available for the public to admire, is truly astonishing. It’s very clean and each fountain is unique. I only saw they have golf cart rentals towards the end of my visit so if you wish to enjoy more leisurely, definitely rent the carts first so you don’t feel tired. I do wish they have more seating options throughout the garden as most people are walking for hours, admiring the sculptures and fountains. They also have boat rentals that you have to row.

The gardens are gorgeous. They are really big, so easily you can spend a whole day inside them. There are other buildings in it that you can visit beside of the Palace. My friends and I went last weekend and in base of it I recommend you to visit the gardens when it's not raining or during summer. We enjoyed our time there but we're also freezing out because of the weather.

I’d almost rather spend time in the gardens than in the main palace. Skip the golf cart, take a leisurely stroll, watch the water fountain show set to music. The palace can be very chaotic, cramped, packed with people, and the stairs still smell like pee.

Go to the Jardins first! Palace is great.. but if nice weather, spend the time in gardens to start. Plenty of shade once down into gardens and even some fresh juice and water vendors are in less obvious locations keeping the experience authentic.

We came by in winter so it looked like it was free to enter. However, there weren't any flowers and quite a few of the statues around the garden were covered up. There were a few bushes around, all of which were meticulously groomed. The rocky pathways had puddles all around since it was a bit wet, making it a bit hard walking in a straight line. The fountains were uncovered but they weren't running. Nonetheless, it was still a really nice place to walk around. The large garden looked like there were many separate sections where you could wander and get lost in. The Basin de Latone fountain in front of the palace was really beautiful. The golden accents glittering in the sun, making it stand out from the rest of the gardens. It would probably be easy to spend a whole day just wandering around, but we didn't have that time so we were able to look around the area close to the palace. Definitely worth a stop if you have come to Versaille Palace.

Beautiful estate with endless grounds to roam. The crowd control is an issue. The rooms became so congested that you can't even see the exhibit and it becomes overwhelming at times. The gardens and fountains are incredible. Plan to spend the entire day to take it all in.

Beautiful gardens, too bad the best part is closed on Mondays. I think that’s weird for such a big tourist destination. Fountains were not working either. Anyways it’s still a beautiful garden with loads to discover, might need to go back now to see the queens gardens.

The gardens are better than the palace! Don't bother waiting, get in the gardens and enjoy the vast amount of stuff to see and get lost in the mazes. Ride a bike, see some cool stuff, feed a sheep, the fountains are VERY awe inspiring to see. Check it out.

Wear comfortable shoes :) The estate itself to the farm and beautiful spots are a distance apart but do take your time to stroll the estate and breathe the air. The Palace is stunning, the grounds are breathtaking, but the most fun part of our trip to Versailles was walking through this village. That may sound kinda lame, but the rest of Versailles is so busy that it was nice to escape from the crowds to see these buildings and all the livestock and just walk for a bit. You can walk elsewhere on the grounds, but you see more in a short walk here than you could at the normal grounds.

  • 4/5 Patricia B. 4 years ago on Google
The main building by the entrance is interesting (especially in contrast after touring the lavish main palace at Versailles) but the real gem of this property are the little English countryside homes located in the back corner of the property. The little garden next to the main building is also quite lovely.

Delightful, well-preserved estate tucked away on the grounds of Versailles palace. Well worth the walk or drive to see it. It's tranquil and one can just imagine Marie Antoinette and a few select courtisans playing at being country bumpkins. Just gorgeous!

  • 5/5 Mikel C. 4 years ago on Google
Best part and inspires more than the actual palace. Gives insight into the life of a woman who elected to spend her time away from the painted gold parties of Versailles and having the production for her own castle right outside- who was the person blamed for all that excessive naïve lifestyle. Far away. But don't go without visiting it.

I liked this area that's near Chateau Versailles. Not too many people when I went, around 5PM, and great for photo ops. The little farm land had a great layout and paths to walk on. It's also free to get into this area.

  • 4/5 Erik W. 5 years ago on Google
Marie Antoinette wanted a little getaway from all the pressure of life at Versailles, so she had a small farming village (or at least what a person who has only heard romanticized depictions of farming villages) built. Super cute and way less crowded than Versailles if you get there at open.

  • 4/5 Evan Z. 4 years ago on Google
Very beautiful palace and gardens. If you went to Versailles first it might feel underwhelming as it's much smaller and has less ornamentation. The hamlet she had built is fascinating and beautiful; it's like stepping back in time. The gardens are very artistic and different than Versailles so they're a must see. This area of the grounds doesn't get very busy so any time of day is great to visit. It's quite far from Versailles so rent a bike or take the cart to get there if you don't want to walk. I walked and enjoyed it. The gardens and forest are very nice.

I honestly enjoyed the garden much more then the palace. We didn’t go to the garden until about 1700, but spent the rest of the evening wondering around the grounds taking in the beauty and stunning design. If we had gone earlier we would have loved to of rowed the boats on the canal, unfortunately it was closed when we got there.

Only had time to vist the gardens. But we'll worth the 11 euros. Classical music playing as you walked around. Also you could hire golf buggies to get you around.

  • 5/5 Austin D. 1 year ago on Google
Between the castle and the expansive grounds, you could easily spend a full day here. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and each have their own personality. I highly recommend a bike or golf cart if you can afford the added luxury, the kayaking didn’t seem to add much to the experience. To me this easily exceeded what any of the Loire Valley castles had to offer in both value and grandiosity.

The landscaping of the gardens is super beautiful - a must visit at least once. Stuff marked as "must see" on their guide map though - those I would skip unless they're on your way. The best of those would be the musical fountain but it's not amazing

  • 3/5 Jiří P. 1 year ago on Google
+ very large, spent half day there and walked only small part. Nice statues, nice fountains. Clean and well kept. - i expected much more (guess better time is summer/late spring). Very few benches. You pay entrance for some special music day, that means they play (reproduced) music in some parts and turn on the fountains for 45 minutes, not even all the fountains. Overall - I d come again (it's Versailles...). But beside the impressive size doesn't have much going for it. Also they have the option to go for free to the gardens outer parts without the fountains

  • 5/5 Miles T. 11 months ago on Google
A glorious garden to explore. It is so extensive that one could spend an entire day traversing the labyrinth of paths and visiting the water ponds. They're lots of good places to get something to eat here to keep you going.

  • 5/5 Micaela L. 11 months ago on Google
Totally worth the visit! It took around 4hrs to go on the main spots of the garden; if you have the time, take more hours to contemplate the fountains and landscapes, prepare a towel to carry with you so you can sit properly and do not get your cloths dirty. Its also good if you can rent a golf car that is offered, so you can save lots of time and can have fun while driving it

  • 5/5 Linh D. 1 year ago on Google
Huge and very nice, with many different areas each with their own signature. This can easily cost you at least 4 hours exploring fully by walking, even without breaks. A lot benches at very nice spots.
