We had a nice stay in the hostel, but some things could be improved. Some positives: the location of the hostel is good, we always walked to the city centre and it's close to the canal which is very nice at night. Also it's a 5 minute walk from the metro or bus. The beds were solid and comfortable, the room was big and the value for money was pretty good. Right in the corner there is a supermarket. Some negatives are the kitchen which should definitely be bigger, especially considering the great amount of guests. Also, we only stayed for a couple of nights but it seemed like our room wasn't getting properly cleaned, which could be bad if you're staying for longer. Our main negative though would be the staff: some were really nice and helpful, others weren't nice at all and seemed like they were doing you a favor by talking to you. Overall it was a nice stay and I'd probably come back if I was on a budget.

I enjoy my stay in the hotel, it's close to metro where you can reach easily the city center. Room is nice and clean, comfortable bed. It was quiet and good to sleep. Staff is nice and friendly. There is a kitchen with basic equipment, so possible to cook your meal or store a food in a fridge. As well there is a laundry service. Overall positive experience!

The staff is very polite and helpful. The hotel is clean and so is the room - the bathroom was crystal clean. Very comfortable bed and pillows, and the room temperature was always fitting - warm with the window closed and could always be easily refreshed upon opening it. I slept like a baby and was sad I had to leave. Comfortable and easy to use shower. Will definitely come back!

Great hotel, very clean room, excellent breakfast and friendly efficient staff. All this and a great location as well. Can highly recommend. Almost forgot to mention how quiet the room was. We were not disturbed once by any noise. The only negative was the washing machine was out of order which would have been useful having been travelling for 15 days! Another time will book direct with the hotel and save 5%

It's good, could be better. The hotel is located quite good and close to the city centre, so the most popular locations can be reached on foot. Public transport is also easily accessible. The location is rather quiet, rooms are rather spacious and well equipped. Absolutely unexpected we paid for every additional service immediately, although got used to paying at checkout. It adds additional stress to always have our wallet with you.

We have stayed in Meininger hostels several times because you know exactly what you're going to get. The service is generally very good. Front desk people may not always know exactly what they're doing, but they're very cheerful while they figure it out. The rooms are always clean with a clean bathroom of your own. We always opt to purchase both breakfast and a pack lunch. It may be the same everyday, but it's good food had a reasonable price. The only four that I gave when evaluating this hostel was for location. It's quite a hike to the nearest tram stop or Metro stop. Not too bad when you're just heading out for an adventure, but somewhat tedious when you're hauling suitcases. Other than that I highly recommend staying at this hostel.

The location, the services, the staff and cleanliness is good and I was quite satisfied, BUT it's not the first time I stay with MEININGER in a dorm and my neighbours are with respiratory viral infections. Obviously ill people stay at the shared dorm, spread the virus further and do not care about the surrounding people at all. I would like my stay at a hostel would be a pleasant experience with no chance to catch a cold from my roommate. It's a hostel, not a hospital!! Sick people should choose private rooms and should not put others at risk. And the hostel should care about all the guests and encourage safe behaviours and do not let ill people in shared dorms.

Arrived around 10 pm. The two guys at the reception didn’t seem welcoming. The room was not cleaned and we went down and showed pictures of the toilet short after we arrived. Piss all over. The one guy at the reception just said, please I don’t want to see the pictures and just acted disgusted but not sorry for the inconvenience. We got a new room. The toilet was cleaner but not clean. Hair in sink and bath and the floor was dirty. We thought, well it’s a hostel. Breakfast is chaotic and tasteless. The only good thing about the stay was the silence at night. I’m sorry. The good thing is that you can do so many low effort/high value initiatives to make the experience way better.

Rooms were clean, staff was extremely friendly. Nothing bad. Photo over the bed is ... special 😀 we found it funny with Sissi, fighting rabbits and deers photoshopped into a Schonbrunn (I believe) photo.

Very good hostel, good equipment and nice facilities, we booked together with my friend but were put in different rooms. The receptionist tried everything to get us together but couldn't manage it, we had different compensation options which were satisfying. I just had to throw away the previous guest's mask and trash left behind... I wish the cleaning was a bit more thorough. Otherwise it's a great hostel for a calm visit of Vienna, it's not much of a party hostel, and many families stay there. Overall the experience was good and we appreciated the involvement of the receptionist to solve our issue!

Great and cheap Hotel. Location is perfect. WiFi could be better in the rooms but not so important when you are on holiday 🙂

The highlight of our stay is a Romanian girl, the most wonderful receptionist I've ever met, who accompanied me when I arrived at the wrong hotel all the way to the right one. She is so fluent in English, professional, hard-working, devoted, beautiful and amazing person! The manager should be aware of having such precious staff. I am so sorry that I forgot her name.

Got to the hostel and they had overbooked, so the room that I booked was not available. They told me I would have to change rooms (check out and back in) in the middle of the stay because of their mistake, which would be very inconvenient for a quick trip. Eventually they found a room for me, but it has big black stains on the wall, the lock on the door was broken, and the AC is broken. It's the middle of summer and is way too hot to sleep like this. Desk staff was very nice but place is clearly not run well.

Although the rooms can be a little tiny, which is the only downside to this hotel/hostel, for the price and location, it’s actually one of the best deals out there in Vienna. It’s no wonder the place is always busy. Now let’s get to the good. I had a somewhat peculiar situation as for some reason, my name sounded like a guy’s, so I kept getting all guys allocated to my dorm- which I was, of course, very uncomfortable with as I was the only girl. So, twice, the staff made sure that my room was changed until I finally found a dorm which was more suitable. They did all these with understanding and professionalism. The dorms, like I said, are small, but this is compensated by the cleanliness. You get fresh and clean towels and the showers and toilet are actually kept separate, which is a plus! There’s a kitchen where you can store food in the fridge. There’s a breakfast lounge and also a games area. There are lots of tram and bus stops around, although the nearest U-bahn is about 8 minutes away. Overall, the ambiance is great and I’d definitely stop by again if I’m ever in Vienna!

This hostel is very reasonably priced, the rooms are spacious and the staff are helpful. Particularly liked the communal kitchen and the pool tables that guests could hire. The breakfast isn’t the best especially for the price, so I would advise eating out. But other than that we had a lovely stay and met some great people.

  • 3/5 Victoria V. 1 year ago on Google
I’ve stayed in a Meininger in Berlin and both are pretty different experiences. The guest kitchen is very small for the size of the hostel, if two people are using it you will have to wait. Regarding the dorms, you can hear everything that goes on in the rooms next to yours. And the lockers aren’t secure at all. You can open them even with the lock on. The staff was nice and helpful when needed.

The hostel provided a pleasant and budget-friendly experience. Its prime location offers convenient access to the city's main attractions. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, complete with a cozy bed lamp. The private bathrooms are equipped with complimentary soap and towels. The front desk staff were also accommodating and helpful. Although the coffee is slightly expensive, the hostel provides good dining options for those who seek a satisfying meal. Overall, it's a great choice for travelers on a budget who want to stay in a well-located and comfortable hostel.

A really good budget hotel. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The TVs are a bit small and there isn’t too much furniture to put clothes in. The staff are friendly. There is only continental breakfast offered with not too many options but can get one filled for the morning. We had a really pleasant stay with no issues.

Decent size family room with two bunk beds and two single beds joined together. So sufficient for a family of four. Bathroom is of decent size, with towels, bodywash and hair dryer included. No minibar in the room. Air-conditioning is average for hot Austrian summer, and a small table fan is provided to compensate.

  • 4/5 Marie D. 7 months ago on Google
Nice family rooms, no complaints. Be aware the guest kitchen is a bit small and not so clean. It doesn't have a hostel vibe, it is more of a hotel vibe. Because the only common area is the lobby. If you don't like walking, you may be better with a hostel/hotel on the other side of the river. Important for coffee addicts: There is no coffeemachine in the guest kitchen. But you can buy a cup at the reception.

I have visited this hotel three times and I have always enjoyed my stay. The hotel is conveniently located in the second district of Vienna, close to the Augarten park and the Danube canal. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel has a modern design and offers many amenities such as a guest kitchen a bar a game

I came to the hostel since I stayed in 2 different ones with this company (Budapest and Brussels) and I had the best experience! I felt like I was staying in a luxury hostel! Always super clean, people super nice, everything just perfect! That is the reason I choose this company again to visit Viena. When I arrived the room was not ready at 2.55pm so in 5 minutes someone "made my bed" I got inside the room and was filthy. I came downstairs and told this to 2 girls downstairs which they put a bad face. One of them join me and saw the room, she said the bed is ready, this is your bed (which it was not well prepared) and I reply the room is dirty, she said okey I will send someone to clean, can you wait 15 min? I said sure. But why is check in at 3pm when the room is not going to be prepared? Someone came 30 min later and in 8 minutes she "cleaned" the bathroom and the shower with 1 cloth (no product) and moped the floor.. I went later to take a shower and the drain was full of hair. I had to remove the hair but the shower was clogged. At this point I wanted to leave the hostel, I asked to be moved to other one and they said that they don't have shared rooms in the other hostel. Abby was the only person who helped me. He offered me another room, I checked and the room that was cleaned, it had hair also in the shower (less than before) but still not properly cleaned. I choose this place because it was a safe choice with my 2 previous experience, that is why I am extremely disappointed with this hostel. It's hard to understand how in 2 city's the company it's a 5 stars hostel and here is a place you wanna leave soon. I really hope this review can help with getting an improvement in the service

The hostel itself served its needs, being central and fast reachable through public transport. The rooms are not really dirty but also not spotless, unfortunately the shower was full of mold and the shower door was broken. If you are planning to be outside most of the day and just sleep at the hotel, it works perfectly fine. The staff was really friendly and helpful.

Having stayed in numerous Meininger hotels throughout Europe I had high expectations of the Vienna Franz hotel, unfortunately I was disappointed by this hotel. I found our family room was quite dated compared to other Meininger hotels. There were no USB points, and the only mirror was in the bathroom, which made it quite difficult for my wife and 2 teen daughters to get ready each day. There were also significant ground works being performed at the rear of the hotel where our room was situated. This was not related to us at anytime during booking or leading up to our stay. We were awakened by the noise from this from approximately 6am each morning. Not what you want after long days sightseeing in Vienna! The breakfast adequate, however it wasn't replenished often, which meant we had to stand around waiting for items such as cheese, meats and coffee. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, but I feel the above points need addressing to bring the hotel up to the normal Meininger standards.

I arrived at 2am after a delayed flight and the guy at reception was super friendly and helpful. There was a problem with my room (fault of another traveller, not the hostel) and he sorted me a different room straight away. It’s comfortable, friendly and social and a great base to explore the city.

I had a fantastic experience at MEININGER Hotel Wien Downtown Franz! The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of Vienna with easy access to public transportation. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my stay, always ready to assist with any questions or requests. The room was clean and comfortable, and the modern design added a touch of elegance to my stay. The common areas were also well-maintained and provided a great space to relax and meet fellow travelers. Overall, MEININGER Hotel Wien Downtown Franz is the perfect choice for anyone visiting Vienna. I highly recommend it and will definitely stay here again on my next visit to this beautiful city!

Room was clean and very quiet, beds were comfortable, there was separate toilette and bath room even with hair dryer. Personal was very helpful. Location is approx. a 20-min walk to the city centre. There were 6 of us in the room and it was still comfortable. I would definitely return to this accommodation if we came back to Vienna!

Overall, the hostel is really nice and comfortable. I really like that the bathroom and toilet are in the room. Everything seemed clean and convenient. The personal was friendly. The location is great and easy to get to the canter. The only thing that spoiled my impression is that I was put in the man room (5 men and only me girl), which was unexpected, confusing, and uncomfortable. And no one noticed me about this situation. Everything else was good.

Very good hotel, simple but clean and easy. Nice and helpful staff, cosy rooms, kitchen for guests and nice common area. Close to the city centre, good value for this price!

Nice laid back place with a youthful atmosphere. They have a kitchen and you can do your laundry. The hotel has a bit of hostel feel, but the rooms are modern comfortable hotel rooms. The hotel is situated a bit awkward in regards to public transport, and you will in most cases have to walk a bit to get to the station you want.

BEST HOTEL EVER! The staff was the best and kind I have ever seen. Toooooo kind. Excellent service. They made me a HUGE favor taking care of my luggage during my two bookings. Even when I first arrived, they spoke to me in Spanish! A very nice detail. You must reward the staff because they work so well, hard and motivated. DANKE!

Very fast check-in. Tidy, clean and comfortable room. Not far from the city center. You should only inform customers about the street parking conditions and the meaning of the blue zone (they are not very clear to foreigners).

Lost my connection flight and had to book a last minute hotel and was able to get a bed here. Let me tell you, it was great. The staff was super polite and helpful. The hotel has a very young environment with a big lounge with pool tables and a bar

The overall experience was great. Staff always diligent. Breakfast amazing. The hostal is centrally located with amenities around and close by to the main touristic spots. I stayed in a 6 bed dormitory and beds aren't allocated by the staff in my case I had to explore for a while before find an empty bed.

The whole hotel structure (hall, kitchen, common spaces…) is really nice; the dormitory rooms are spacious and clean as well as the bathroom and shower. The position is quite convenient and you can easly move by walk, bike or bus to go to the centre. A mention to all of the people at the reception because they’re really really kind and always available to answer any question. I really enjoyed my stay!

An amazing stay. Stayed there for our 3 day trip to Vienna. A very friendly and an amazing setup for backpacking travelling who would like to like to cook. But the plus would always be the staff at the front desk. So helpful and cheerful. I have never seen such level of hospitality before.

The room was very large and very clean. We liked it very much! In addition to the large bed, there was a sofa, a table and a cupboard. The bathroom was also very large and there was plenty of space in the shower. The staff was very friendly and flexible. It is about 10 minutes to the next metro station, with which you can quickly get to the center. But the street is very quiet and there is hardly any traffic. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the airport by Uber.

I've stayed in probably 20 hostels this year, and this was the worst one by far. This place poses as a hotel, and to be fair it looks just like one. But imagine instead of professional hospitality workers, it's a bunch of young people who didn't know how the place runs (ordering taxis, renting towels, and using the washer machine were struggles–ended up not able to wash). Then imagine sharing a hotel room (made for one person) with 4 people, with beds side by side less than one foot away from each other where the room and bathroom don't get cleaned consistently because people are in and out all the time. It's a strange situation, and I would've had a much better experience if my expectations were lowered and the place didn't put up a facade of being a hotel. I could, however, imagine this place being a lot more fun if you got a room with just your friends. Also, the most expensive hostel I've stayed in by far and breakfast was expensive and mediocre (Budapest Bagels down the street is cheaper and amazing). Oh, there was also blood on the covers they gave me. And I also got rude looks from one of the workers. I asked for the key to the luggage room while he was typing on the computer and he looked me in the eyes, rolled his eyes, and didn't help me and I had to wait for someone else to help me. This is the first poor review I've written, but I thought I should share my experience.

I stayed in a shared dorm with 4 beds and it was comfortable, the bathroom was surprisingly clean (after I'd heard so many horror stories about hostel bathrooms) and they changed the bedding for us each day. The bathroom was in the room which was great and the room also had air con. However, the room was very small for a bunch of strangers who all had bags with them. It felt quite cramped and also felt far too close to be sleeping to some guys I'd never met before. The kitchen was fine, although could've been a bit cleaner.

Cheap hostel, close to city centre and transport (tram). Just across the river Danube. Staff is friendly and other travellers are pretty chill. Rooms are clean and worth every penny. I didn't have the breakfast buffet which is €10 for continental buffet and drinks. There's a bakery a street away if you're interested.

This is an above and beyond hostel, the environment has been clean and comfortable, the room & bathroom have been spacious, and breakfast has a sufficient spread for any guest to start their day. I have truly enjoyed my stay in Meininger!!! Definitely recommend any from solo, couple, or family to book a stay here!

Full 5 star deserving property. Great location, excellent staff (Mr. Frederico was great in performing his duties), well maintained rooms and most importantly they had air-conditioning which worked very well. Only down-side was that the rooms were small.

By far the best value hostel we've stayed at in Europe! We were in a 4 bed dorm, and had a double bed to ourselves. Our room was clean and our bed was extremely comfortable and to our delight, there was AC and a fan! Our ensuite bathroom was spacious and also well cleaned, and fully equipped with towels and soap. Great shower. Awesome location within walking distance to the main strip. Unlike other hostels, this one will not let you check in before 3pm, so take your time getting there. Baggage storage is available for free, however - if interested. Strong wifi and nice staff. Low key atmosphere in a safe quiet location. Best prices (for value) we've come across in Europe - would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat.

Good place, very modern and it has a good atmosphere. I made a request to the staff to lower the volume of the music because it was loud, but she didn't seem to care. Towels are not included and they only accept cards, so no cash, which I find inconvenient considering the towel is 1 euro.

Staff was friendly, helpful & remembered us. Loved them Rooms were clean. Washroom was spacious. Other hostels we stayed at had no hot water but not an issue here. Nice dining area to hang out in Wifi was slow in the rooms. Reception takes forever to reply to emails or does not reply at all Pro tip!! For easiest booking just go to booking.com or their website. Avoid hostelworld at all costs - if anything goes wrong front desk can’t help at all

The location over rules everything else... It is right across the city center. Perhaps a 10 min walk where you have to just cross the river and the sight during that walk is amazing as well. The hotel itself is quite alright. It had all the necessities for a short stay. I stayed two nights and it was really worth it. Would definitely recommend as budget friendly and central.

We are a family of 4, i booked the hotel with booking. Com for our 1st stay and for next time i did via the hotel site itself. It was cheaper. Both rooms we got were clean. Hotel was 23 min far from the city. Staff very friendly and helpful.

I liked the stay and the welcoming personnel. As I booked in a 6-bed room, I had everything necessary for 3 nights. However had a hard time to get into sleep for myself. Simple curtains for the bed could've helped a lot already against any light income and make it feel more closed. In the end, I got it for a decent price, so I would recommend it! Also it was my first tour with multi-bed hostels - so maybe that is not for everyone...
