Good place to visit, Old one, Careful with children,as there was no protective heights and fences, and road was very heavy traffic, Main problem was total footpath was occupied and made as sleeping area by many people. Prakasham Barrage is constructed on Krishna river which is connecting road bridge between Krishna and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh. The length of this barrage is 1.2 km long. Around 7 Lakh acres land is irrigating under this barrage. This barrage is named as Prakaram barrage in respect of Tanguturi Prakasham who is First Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. It was constructed between 1852 to 1855 at a Cost of 2 Crore Rupees, which was designed by Sir Arthur Cotton and was built by Capt. Orr. Best time to visit is in the Monsoon season that to in the evening it will be so nice to see with decorated lights.

Prakasam barrage is an old barrage which is on the Krishna river which looks gorgeous when it's night. A road is beside the barrage for the way to mangalgiri but not allowed for heavy vehicles we can go on the road and can explore whole Krishna river and barrage structure etc ... This place is very good if you want to see good view...

The Prakasam Barrage as the project facilitated the irrigation of large tracts of farmland. The Barrage provides views of the lake. It has become a tourist attraction of Vijayawada. On 13th Feb-2019 Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation. And it is the most rushed place where a lot people travels through it and also a good tourist place.

The existing Prakasam Barrage across River Krishna was constructed during 1954 to 1957 in place of old Anicut just 104Ft upstream side near Vijayawada City in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, below the confluence of the Musi, it passes through a narrow gorge and enters the plains of Coromandal coast, till at Vijayawada. The earlier anicut with its canals for irrigation and flood banks for the protection of the delta from the floods was constructed during 1852 with a coast of Rs. 2.00 crores which was designed by Sir Artur Cotton and built by Captain Charies Orr to serve an ayacut of 5.80 Lakh acres in four districts of Krishna, West Godavari, Guntur and Prakasam. The old anicut was breached during 1952 during inspection the eminent Superintending Engineer, Sri. Vepa Krishna Murthy and other staff have demised their lives. After examining all aspects in detail the present barrage was constructed during 1954-1957 with a cost of Rs. 2.278 Crores and named as Prakasam Barrage after the Great Leader and former Chief Minister Sri. Prakasm Panthulu. The Geographical Location of the Barrage Latitude is 16°-30'N and Longitude is 80°-37'E

This is the place for many fishermen's daily earnings as they keep trying fishing here and still water looks beautiful with boats in it

Prakash’s Barrage is an Engineering marvel which was built in the 80’s to store Krishna water. It’s located near the entrance of Vijaywada City,Opposite to Durga Temple Hill. Must visit place at the night as it will be lit up with all the colourful lights and a site to be seen. This has numerous gates and if the water is filled to the brim it’s an amazing site. Do visit here if you are in Vijaywada.

A major part of the agricultural richness of Andhra Pradesh is contributed by Prakasam Barrage, a bridge in Vijayawada that stretches across the Krishna river connecting the districts of Krishna and Guntur. Named in the honour of Sri Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Prakasam Barrage is a major attraction of Vijayawada, visited by huge number of tourists every year.

Prakasam barrage is good location for watching Krishna river. When Krishna river is full it's very good to see the floating of water. Everyone will get heart touching this location. But there is no proper car parking here. While watching we need to park car on road side only. Evening till midnight road side ice cream vehicles and Pani Puri vehicles are available here.

Located on the bank of krishna river and beside of Goddess Kanaka Durga temple. It is the last and final water storing point of the river. RTC busses and heavy trucks are not allowed on the barrage. Excellent Construction by engineers. On the occasion of Dussehra and other important festivals it will decorate with lighting.

Kanak Durga temple is one of the holistic and famous temples of Andhra Pradesh. U can reach here easily with both Government and private transports in affordable price. It is in the middle of the city so u won't face any difficulty. All arrangements are quite good. The most important thing is the place itself has its divine aura.

The barrage was built to irrigate an ayacut of 5.8 lakh acres. Due to development of ayacut in Krishna delta, the anicut was incapable of providing water for irrigation. Since irrigation under river Krishna was developed in the uplands, other states were also fully utilizing the allotted Krishna water.

The Prakasam Barrage in Andhra Pradesh is a marvel of engineering and a testament to human ingenuity. Spanning across the mighty Krishna River, this monumental structure not only serves as a vital link between the districts of Krishna and Guntur but also offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. The rhythmic flow of the river beneath the barrage creates a mesmerizing sight, while the gentle ripples and the play of light on the water’s surface paint an ever-changing canvas of natural beauty. Visitors can stroll along the well-maintained walkways on the barrage, taking in the refreshing breeze and enjoying the serene ambiance. The expansive view of the river and the lush greenery that lines its banks presents a picture-perfect scene, allowing one to immerse themselves in the tranquil allure of the surroundings.

•This is located exactly opposite to Kanaka Durga Temple, just beside Durga ghat. •Must visit place when the dam gates are open. Your eyes will be filled with joy when you see the water when the dam gates are opened. •Little busy place as the people like to visit regularly. •When you visit this place, you can also try visiting Punnami ghat where you can find boating too which is just 2 kms far from here

This place is strategically located just opposite Kanaka Durgamma temple. You can have a better view of barriage gates from here. If you want to practically explain to your children about what a barriage means and how it is different from a 'dam', you can demonstrate it here practically here. The Karman ghat for 'apara karmas' is also just nearby at the front of the barriage.

Located in the heart of Vijayawada, the Prakasam Barrage stands as a testament to human ingenuity and engineering prowess. This magnificent structure, built across the Krishna River, serves multiple purposes, from flood control to irrigation and navigation. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the grandeur of the barrage, stretching majestically across the river. The view from the barrage offers a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding area, with the Krishna River flowing gracefully beneath and the cityscape of Vijayawada in the distance. One of the highlights of visiting the Prakasam Barrage is witnessing its operational mechanism. The sight of massive gates being raised or lowered to regulate the flow of water is both mesmerizing and educational. It provides insight into the intricate workings of hydraulic engineering and the crucial role such structures play in water management. Additionally, the barrage serves as a recreational spot for locals and tourists alike. The promenade along the riverbanks offers a serene environment for leisurely walks or picnics, with benches strategically placed for relaxation and enjoyment of the scenic views. Moreover, the Prakasam Barrage holds historical significance, as it was constructed during the British colonial era and named after Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Its enduring presence symbolizes the resilience and progress of the region. In conclusion, a visit to the Prakasam Barrage is a must for anyone exploring Vijayawada. Whether you're fascinated by engineering marvels, seeking a peaceful retreat, or simply interested in the rich history of the region, the barrage offers a memorable experience that captures the essence of Vijayawada's charm and heritage.

Prakasam Barrage is very next to the famous Kanaka Durga temple, Vijayawada which is constructed on Krishna River and connects Guntur district and Krishna District. The width of the bridge is small and the safety precautions are also less, children should be very very careful. We can stop our vehicle on road and enjoy the view of Barrage. One the best and oldest dam located in Vijayawada. The Prakasam Barrage stretches 1223.5 m across the Krishna River connecting Krishna and Guntur districts. The barrage serves also as a road bridge and spans over a lake. The three canals associated with the barrage run through the city of Vijayawada, crossing it and giving it a Venetian appearance. Andhra Pradesh largely owes its rich agriculture to the Prakasam Barrage as the project facilitated the irrigation of large tracts of farmland. The Barrage provides views of the lake. It has become a tourist attraction of Vijayawada. On 13th Feb-2019 Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu laid foundation to construct a new barrage named Vykuntapuram Barrage on krishna river nearly 25 km upstream of Prakasam Barrage.

The idea of constructing a dam across the river Krishna dates back to 1798. It began in the hands of captain Buckle and was revised in 1839 and 1841 by Captain Best and Captain Lake. After the endorsement of Major Cotton, the board of Directors of the East India Company approved it on 5 January 1850. The dam was started in 1852 and completed in 1855. It cost Rs 1.75 crore in those days and seems to have paid the then government a return of 18%. It used to irrigate 7 lakh acres.[1] Later, the State Government constructed a bridge that was named after Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra (a state formed in 1953, which later became Andhra Pradesh in 1956 after the merger of Telugu speaking districts of former Hyderabad State). Completed in 1957, it helps to irrigate over 1.2 million acres of land
