It’s my 3rd time here. The drinks are great. The atmosphere is okay. For a place that brands itself on the courage and history of black people, it is a shameful. Please, please be more culturally sensitive. At least show movies that show that history (the film showing tonight has a white man with a black face!) play music and invite artist that build on that tradition! Last time I was here, at least you had good music from black artist playing, today I was disappointed. I might try you again, but please stick to the tradition you claim!

Great service, thoughtful and curated cocktail menu, throwback speak easy decor, sparse but pleasant crowd. And yet, I probably won't return. Allegedly, there is a happy hour Thursday and Friday from 6-8, mentioning certain cocktails, etc. for a reduced price, so I ordered one, along with another not mentioned. They were both very well made and satisfying. As I checked out, I noticed said happy hour drink was full price, and a 22% gratuity had been added to the check, pointed out to me by the bartender (thank you). No mention of service added on the menu that I perused, to my knowledge, which is something usually reserved for larger groups, not a solo, well-dressed patron at a bar stool. I'm a long-time veteran of the service industry in New York, a 20% tipper for mediocre service, 25-50% for more. In a venue in a very nice hotel that caters to business and higher end clientele, and not vacationing tourists on a thinner budget in a resort, or Time Square, this did not sit right with me. Maybe I won't come across the superior quality of curated cocktails in most Wichita bars/restaurants that I had at Dockum, but I have found a few really good places that honor a happy hour price, serve well crafted cocktails, and don't add a service charge, so those establishments are where I will take my business.

We have been going to Dockum once a month since we moved to Wichita six months ago. It has changed so much in such a short time. The Smoking gun is not served the way it used to be. On a Saturday night they had one server working (at least that was all we saw). The drinks are still delicious but getting someone to take your order makes it a little less wonderful. Also the added gratuity on all checks is ridiculous. 23%? I would not have tipped less than 20% even with the service we got this time but not being told it was added was shady. Had we not noticed it on our bill we would have tipped double. I wonder how many people have. Being able to order food from upstairs is a plus.

One of the most unique atmospheres you will find in Wichita! The drinks are a little more expensive than most places around town but well worth it. We had a group of 6 and everything was amazing, I really enjoyed this place glad I gave them a try!

Had a fantastic experience. We ordered the Preservation Board for an app to have with our cocktails. The drinks are awesome! Great choices and great presentation/flavor. We also split the filet which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Definitely love this speakeasy and will be returning with friends.

I had a great dinner at Dockum during a business trip to Wichita. Good conversation and cocktails with Louis at the bar, not to mention a solid burger at a great price. Some of the previous reviews mention a service charge that has been removed under new management. I would absolutely recommend Dockum for cocktails or dinner.

We visited this bar on the 27th of July 2023. A nice Speakeasy Bar with a good vibe - quite a lot of people and a nice acoustic band of two. We came for the cocktails and did not have any food. There is a ok selection of drinks, but the letters on the menu are very small 😂 But we managed to order some drinks - and they were splendid - really good mix and taste. Definitely a place to visit again.

I wish I could give this a full 5 stars but the fact that they add automatic gratuity and don’t mention it seems deceiving. My husband and I are big tippers but when the servers don’t announce that there is gratuity auto added, it feels pretty deceitful that we might add a 25% tip to what was already tipped 22%. Yuck. Otherwise our drinks were amazing, the music was great and our server was absolutely wonderful. Just be transparent with your customers!

It was ok. Loved the speakeasy aspect, but the food was just ok and waayyy over priced! We had a not great experience in our group. One of the ladies ordered a salad (which was nearly $20 btw) and she had not seen on the menu that it had anchovies and she has an allergy. Yes, it was her mistake, but they brought her another one without and then CHARGED HER FOR 2 SALADS!! Even though they took the other one away. So when we all encouraged her to ask the server about it, the server said "Oh, I thought you understood that you would be charged again" and refused to take it off. We then asked for a manager and he took it off. Thankfully. Because of this, I will probably never go back, but it was a cool one time experience.

Please tell me why you have a reservation system, but you won’t honor it at all. We had a reservation and the girl that answered the door just gave excuse after excuse why they didn’t have any more room in the bar. We took the time to drive out, hired babysitters, and paid for parking, just to be told that even though we had a reservation, they couldn’t honor it. The girl asked us if we had a reservation only to tell us that they didn’t have space. Ridiculous and highly disappointing.

The Barron of Earl is the best drink I have ever had hands down. Wonderful balance and the flavor development over the trek of the drink was delicious. This place is 15 on a scale of 5.

I attempted to treat my wife and mother-in-law to drinks and dessert at the Dockum. They were nice enough to accommodate us on a Saturday without a reservation. However, I'm sure that's because the room had only 3 other couples in it. We finished our drinks and desserts and attempted to order a second round, but our server completely forgot about our order, and it never came. I asked for our tab, and the server remembered that we tried to order more drinks, but we were just ready to leave at this point. Then, they had the audacity to add a 22% gratuity to our party of 3. This wasn't my first visit to the Dockum but will be my last.

A fun experience. We had a reservation, you need to knock on the door. It was a first visit for some but not all. The cocktails are interesting and hit or miss for me. The smoking gun is my husband's favorite but the smoker is broken. I had the berry bubbles...just ok buy pretty. The have a small food menu including a burger and cheese board.

3.5 stars. As a New Yorker, I’m a sucker for any speakeasy, so when in Wichita I had to try Dockum. It’s a cool entry experience in the basement of Wichita’s fanciest hotel: find the wooden door and knock for entry. It’s fairly large inside, so the bar’s energy is diffuse and more subdued; I like more buzz, personally. I was seated at the bar, where a cranky and entitled corporate type bristled when asked by the hostess to move over six inches to make room (so I wouldn’t be sitting on top of where the staff was preparing cocktail garnishes). Service was friendly and the bartender was solid. However, two younger staffers were a bit immature (chatty, loud, and unprofessional), making the overall impression less than what I seek from a luxe cocktail bar experience. My drink - a faintly smoky Old Fashioned called the Leadslinger - was fine, but not amazing, and in general the entire experience felt just a bit soulless. It was around 8p on a Wednesday, so maybe Wichita is just lively on Fridays and Saturdays, or it just wasn’t my night. The best thing about Dockum is that its name pays homage to an important civil rights event that happened upstairs on this site decades ago. Courageous Black students conducted a sit-in - perhaps the first nationally, but definitely early in the civil rights movement - at the lunch counter upstairs where there is now a fancy restaurant. It inspired the broader movement for racial justice that continues on today. This legacy, now connected by name to a basement bar of a swanky hotel, is the most soulful part of the entire experience and definitely one to toast to.

Me and my wife sat at the bar and Cody was our wonderful bartender, they are very knowledgeable and can recommend a drink if your not sure what to get. Every drink we had was amazing! The burgers were excellent too. Best part about it was it was in the basement of our hotel so we didn’t have too far to go home after drinking.

You go for the delicious craft cocktails, fantastic service, and live music. I recommend eating a full meal before you go. My burger while perfect medium rare had zero flavor and the chunk of cheddar on top wasn't even melted.

Very nice place good drinks. staff is super friendly. Sometimes it's busy so it's better to make a reservation. Been coming here for 7 years and love the atmosphere. Very good music.

The atmosphere is fantastic and definitely a great experience. I got the baron of earl and really enjoyed it. My fiance got something with rosemary in it and wasnt a big fan. My biggest and only complaint is that our server added gratuity to our check. The drinks were 16$ a piece, which was expected, but when bringing our check the server told us they added gratuity which was 22% on top of the drinks and a service fee. Ended up paying around 50$ for 2 drinks so keep that in mind before going. Great atmosphere but I wouldn't go often.

Great drinks and experience. A bit pricey but drinks are truly handmade and crafted so worth it to us! Wings were amazing!

My boyfriend and I love coming here, the vibes are very chill and low key. The drinks are always worth the price and the servers are so sweet. The burgers are delicious but I would not recommend the wings.

New to Wichita and went in on the advice of co-workers. The atmosphere was better than advertised, our waitress Kate was a pro, the waiter who dropped off our charcuterie plate gave a description of the dish as good as any Michelin starred eatery, and the selection of distilled spirits was extensive. The only reason(s) the rating is not excellent are; The tools for making a top notch Old Fashioned were not available to the bar staff (a pestle for grinding the orange), And whomever in management that decided to charge an extra 2 bucks for the signature single cube of an Old Fashioned needs to go back to whatever tourist trap they learned at. They could have added it to the drink price and no one would have noticed. Rookie mistake..... Even one of the microbreweries here had that (and a pestle). It's the little things.......

When you hear Dockum, in Wichita, Ks., you instantly think of the historic event of black peoples integrating this building so, imagine my shock when I look up and see Judy Garland, dancing with a guy in blackface! My food didn't go down to well!

What a fun experience! Classy without being stuffy. Although the waitress got a few of our orders wrong, we weren't charged for them and the staff were all friendly. Make a reservation.

Ordered the specialty drink “The Smoking Gun”….according to their menu, it is smoked and served in a Dockum souvenir bottle…for $18. Drink came in a regular glass, didn’t taste smoked at all and the server claimed she had no idea it was supposed to be served that way and didn’t know how much the drink would cost. She brought over a Bic lighter (struggled to use it), to light an orange peel for presentation (👎🏽). All this and the fact that they were open but a wedding party was finishing up….the lights were all the way up and it was so loud in here - ambiance was zero. Would not come back. I’ve been to a lot of speakeasies and this one was at the bottom of my list.
