Nice small museum on the early life of Mondriaan. Do not expect his modern work, but you get a glimpse of how he his transition went from a classical style to his abstract style.

Super organized, other artists are also introduced. You feel very special when you know that 100 years ago from a window of the family house, you can still see the church that Mondriaan drew in his picture. There is a newly planted apple tree in the same place that is in the picture. There he went his way as a follower of his father. I was very positively surprised when we got a cup of coffee and a delicious piece of homemade apple tart in the lower area at the end of our adventurous tour of the museum, in a very cozy atmosphere. Piet Mondriaan, nowadays a worldwide renowned and admired artist 👩‍🎨 spent his youth (1880 to 1892) in his parental home on Zonnebrink 4 in Winterswijk. His father had acquired a position as the Director of the School of Christian National Instruction and lived with his family in the villa directly next to the school building. Piet’s father and uncle Frits Mondriaan taught Piet basic knowledge on drawing and painting.

The staff are very nice but the visit is not worth the €12 entrance fee. There aren't many pictures and you get through it quickly

A superb museum about Piet Mondriaan, who spent his early years in Winterswijk, in the villa he lived in. Small, but packed with his early paintings, films, but none of the later cubist style. cute exhibitions but quite expensive considering the size of the museum. we payed 12€ for about 30 mins we spent inside looking at the whole exhibition. the artworks were nicely presented and described well.

We visited Villa Mondriaan after seeing his birthplace in Amersfoort. What a shame that they didn't even show the important Winterswijk period there! Yesterday we went back to Villa Mondriaan after three years and were very disappointed. There are few pictures to see, no audio guide, empty cool rooms, poor lighting. The staff is friendly, but the visit is not worth 12 euros.
