So I arrive early and they do not have early check in. Fine! They tell me to wait until 1 pm (which was four hours); then while I am waiting, I see them check in other guests and send them to their rooms! Generally their interactions did not seem much customer focused, which is why I decided to put this review before finishing my stay! Oh and then I come here and there is no one at the reception! Starting to be really ridiculous. And then when they come, the room is still unavailable! And the person from the reception has to go up and check it; just amazing! ------ update after stay ----- So on the surface the rooms are OK, and the bathroom looked great! But: 1. For the fi St few days, the bathroom smelled of cigarete smoke. In fact, one night at 1:45 am the fire alarm went off which I think had something to do with this. 2. The room's door would wobble due to wind outside (which somehow transfered to the corridor). It made it very hard to sleep when randomly the door makes noises. The solution would have been very simple; spring load the doors and this would not happen. 3. The wifi signal was very weak on the floor I was on, and have the time it would disconnect me from the network. So overall, this is a hotel that focuses on surface things, the things that you can easily spot, but not the reality of what hotels are about; providing a smooth stay for your customer.

The room was big enough and the bathroom had been recently renovated. There was no heating in the bathroom so this stayed cold the whole time during my stay. I saw no visible wheelchair accessibility. But the staf are very friendly and will try to make every wish possible. The food was far better than expected.

Very nice hotel five minutes to Zaandam center and ten minutes to Amsterdam. Close to many beautiful places such as Zaanse Schans, Het Wiske Park and many more. Their staff are friendly and helpful. They would love to help you. The breakfast buffet with great options and still much cheaper than the most hotels in the Netherlands and sure in Amsterdam and regions around. Good advice: book your room from their own website, then you will then get guaranteed at least 10% discount 😉

the hotel manager accused me of smoking! therefore wakes you up at 6 o'clock in the morning. I have shown that nobody smokes here, but he continues to assume that I had smoke.

This used to be a favourite for staying local to my Dutch friends, but it's been some time since I was last here and this hotel's gone downhill in some order. On arrival, the staff provided an upgrade to the top floor plus a pair of free drink vouchers - a good start, but having just come from another Bastion hotel in Nijmegen, this one in Zaandam couldn't step up to the mark. I didn't remember booking a twin room, but all are twins here. Notwithstanding, we pushed the beds together - no problem - to reveal significant grit and dust and somebody's lost sock beneath one, then a similar amount of grit and dust beneath the other along with somebody's lost face flannel. That led to further inspection where I found a squashed mosquito on the window net, spattered residue from somebody's coughing upon the inside of the window glass and some droplets of something upon the window sill. My wife and I were wholly unimpressed and to cap it all, the room's door does not close itself due to a broken auto-close mechanism. These matters alone were cause for just one star, but the staff were otherwise very helpful in solving a means to locally obtain some medication for my wife hence two stars. Other points: In recent years a security fence has appeared around the hotel, the reason is due to several vehicle break-ins within its car park. Grateful for the security, saddened that the area has gone so badly downhill. Not that I use it, the smoking room has now gone, despite being advertised as a feature. The games room is a pool table where the smoking room used to be, plus a jukebox. Bastion hotels have a breakfast window which ends at 0900h. I don't recall it being this early from my previous visits, maybe it was, but it's a nuisance for non-business visitors who may enjoy late nights with friends. It wouldn't hurt to extend this another hour or so, like most of the rest of Europe's hotels. The concept of fried eggs 'over easy' (flipped for a few seconds to keep the yolk soft) was completely lost on the breakfast team, otherwise the breakfast offering was comprehensive although I do wish they'd offer back bacon, not just streaky.

Comfy beds, nice shower. A decent place to sleep. A little more table space would have made it 5 stars

Very bad health and safety management - too many people not respecting the mask duty and staff non imposing or even asking for it. I have complained about it and I was told that "we cannot force people" just in front of the sign "mandatory mask". Not good at all, one of the places where I felt the least safe in the last year of pandemy.

Is a standard hotel, I must say the staff in the reception were really nice and attentive specially a lady who also did some service for us during the evenings. She has been lovely. The only thing that I didn’t like was the housekeeping service, there was a couple of times that my room wasn’t cleaned properly, and they checked inside my handbag several times and left the zipper opened. Also after the housekeeping service, there was a short hair tall lady who was coming inside the room without any authorisation while I was sleeping in my room. I’m not sure if they were looking for something or what, but it didn’t feel alright, we both were working in the shipyard closed by it, the food in the restaurant was nice too! Apart from those misshap with the cleaners or supervisors, I gave it only 4 stars.

It was fine. The rooms were a good size but it was quite cold throughout the hotel. Although we could adjust the temperature in the room the bathroom remained cold and the floor was freezing which was unpleasant getting out of the shower/ going the bathroom in the middle of the night. Service from the staff was good, and there were nice touches with a free coffee bar and pool table but I would not stay here again. Too far from Amsterdam city centre and Zaandam is not covered by the Amsterdam travel passes

service quality is a disaster. you have to ask yourself and knock on the kitchen door so that someone from the staff will graciously appear and serve you. once again I stood at the bar for more than 10 minutes waiting for service to order food (the quality of which is very poor, rubber chops not cooked enough that you have to replace) if you sit at a table then you can wait for 40 minutes for no one from the service

The kitchen closed on Friday, I asked the receptionist to pay with card 3 euros to be able to take some snacks in the machine that works with money and he refused.

It may need a bid of an improvement in cleanliness, but it was most certainly one of the friendliest and more helpful (staff) hotels I've stayed at. Thank you very much and looking forward to visiting again.

5 for the staff, service and prices. Good and easy connection with bus. Small things want me to put a 4 as the low intensity in the showers and some cleaning product smelled quite awful, otherwise a great stay and again id like to compliment the amazing staff.

The room was very clean and the beds very comfortable. It was very quiet as we had a room at the back and not facing the road so if you want a quiet room ask for a room at the back. The internet worked perfectly with no problems and the breakfast is good. I strongly advise that you book a deal with breakfast as there are no cafes or restaurants close by and if you ask for it when you get there you will have to pay 15 euros per person. The bus stop for getting into Amsterdam is just a few steps away across the road and goes every 10 or 15 mins so very convenient. The coffee machine in the room was very welcome although milk was not provided. It said to ask for a kettle if you wanted one and when we asked we were told no kettles were left. If you say that you can provide something then you should make sure you can. for business people during the week it would work well, the restaurant is open during the week and although we had no need to eat there their prices looked very reasonable. Be aware that the restaurant is not open during weekends.

The rooms were okay although the bathroom light was quite slow to start and the AC turned on itself. However, the food is really really bad. It's not fresh, badly cooked and over-priced. That's quite important for a hotel that claims "Lekker eten, lekker slepen" (good food, good sleep). You can stay here but don't eat here!

I was staying in Zaaandam to attend an event in Taets Park, and from that perspective location is very convenient. There is direct bus from Central station (costs €6.50 one way). Hotel is on the highway by the corner. The amenities are nice. Rooms are good. Nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either. There is a smoking room with pool table. Breakfast is BAD. Glad I only had it once there. Got much better breakfast elsewhere for same price. There are no restaurants or supermarkets within walking distance. Handful within few kms.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and did not run in to a single issue. Every night we would come back to our room made, fresh towels and coffee. I was hesitant about booking this hotel due to the other reviews but the room was clean and I got excellent service.

Wasnt told any information on breakfast time, what time checkout was, anything about the smokers room (no weed if youre wondering). Basoc stuff. And when i asked for where things were regarding buses, train station, bike hire or deals i was told to grab a map, and theres internet to use. Thanks. No teas or milk or cookie/hot choc sachet in the room, only coffee pods. Pillows are good but bed linens are cheap. No help with luggage, not as friendly as I thought. Its a €65 taxi by the eay to the airport, or similar to the city. Wouldnt book again. Ive worked in hotels.

The hotel staff was nice, the rooms were clean and well maintained. Free welcome drink at the bar are very much appreciated. The only issue with this hotel is that it was located a bit far from the Amsterdam city and the most convenient mode of transportation were the buses. Ahh yes, and the washrooms were too small. Me personally, I didn't like the washbasin at all. There were some serious design flaws in the washbasin. The water didn't drain properly and kept dropping on the bathroom floor.
