(Translated by Google) Beautiful mill where you can have a nice look around, One of the few pavilions on the Zaanse schans without separate entrance fees.

(Translated by Google) Given that the location must be visited absolutely, located about 15/20 minutes by train from Amsterdam and you can safely avoid buying already made trips, buy the train ticket, it costs very little and then do everything on your own avoiding the crowds of organized groups . As soon as you cross the drawbridge you will find yourself immersed in a fabulous, wonderful atmosphere! This in particular is the mill for making spices.

(Translated by Google) This is the only mill that can be visited for free, it has a souvenir shop inside and you can see the machinery moving through the wind. Is very pretty.

(Translated by Google) Outback Netherlands, just charming places. (Although the outback suburb of Amsterdam can certainly be called a stretch). However, in order to preserve their identity and to attract tourists, these beautiful mills are kept in perfect condition. Windmills look great, on excursions they talk about Dutch sailors who brought spices from India in the Middle Ages and grind them on these millstones. You can buy various souvenirs.

(Translated by Google) Free admission to this shop which still retains an active mill operated by the windmill. Good choice of products especially the mustard characteristics.

(Translated by Google) It is an area where some traditional Dutch windmills are left. It looks like it is stored for sightseeing rather than practical use. Tourists from various countries are visiting, but there are animals and it's an idyllic atmosphere. (Translated by Google) In the folk village of Zaanse-Schans - an open-air museum dedicated to the life of the Dutch village and wooden architecture of the 17th-18th centuries, a special place is occupied by wooden windmills - the symbol of Holland. In the village you can visit 6 working mills, incl. and a small, but very unusual mill for the production of mustard - De Huisman. The mill was built in 1780. Here you make spices in general and separately for the famous mustard Zaanse, which you can immediately buy. In the 18th century, the mill belonged to an Indian merchant. Inside the interior is authentic, you can look at three large millstones with which to grind dried herbs and seeds. A short film is being shown. There are information panels. Tasting. You can buy not only mustard, but also spices. And most importantly, a fragrant and pleasant smell.

Scenic, educational and awe inspiring visit. The climb up with two kids at 3 yo and 6 yo is challenging. The view from above, in a plaform built on the wind mill is breath-taking.

Lots of Wind mills. After I was there, I just realised that the wings can be turned. I think they need to turn it according to wind direction. Each wind mills is used on diffent purpose. This one is used to grind spices. Some are used for grid some kind of coal.

(Translated by Google) It is the only mill that can be visited for free. The whole area around is beautiful, the other mills, the canals, the style of the town. Everything beautiful, it looks like a dream movie. Each mill specializes in different products. Inside this one we could see how they work since it was in operation. They also sell souvenirs to help themselves. You have to go to this town, yes or yes. Very recommended. We visited the area before the high season and while it was cold and windy we had a wonderful time. Our favorite place was the spice mill. We bought stone ground mustard that is made there. Wow, it is delicious! this village is worth the easy 15 minute train ride from Amsterdam Central station.

Amazing display of technology from a couple of hundred years ago. It's amazing to see these contraptions work and looking at all that wind energy transformed into kinetic... makes you understand how lucky the Netherlands were to have this abundant power source for their land reclaim projects of the centuries.

De Huisman is a small octagonal mill at the Zaanse Schans in the Zaanstad, and currently makes mustard. 'De Huisman' has been located on the Zaanse Schans since 1955, next to the warehouse 'De Haan'. The mill was probably built in 1786 on the Blue Path in Zaandam
