Chilled out Canal side Bistro...Great menu covering all bases...my GF reckoned THE best dessert Ever...

Visited 6/7/22 for dinner, good that we made a reservation, very nice, small restaurant with terrace at the Zaan river for lunch. Good was very good, small card, we have to try the terrace next time. Nice people who served us.

Great place to take some relaxation and enjoy their drinks, lunch and cakes. I have many pictures on my phone there, but unfortunately I couldn't find it 😁😔

They should get a Nobel prize of Good Vibes yet elegant and tasty restaurant . I went everyday of my stay in Zaandam to get breakfast and another meal.

One of the BEST restaurants in Zaandam. The food and the service were both excellent. The ambiance is really cosy with lots of hanging indoor plants and talking with the owner it is clear that she really does care about what she is doing. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

We had an wonderful wedding day at Verrassing aan de Zaan. Cozy place for almost 40 guests. We had the wedding ceremonies in the church next to it, then tart en toast, en amazing dinner served by professional staff. Thank you for good care of everything, Maartje ^^

it would be nice to write somewhere that you can only eat here until 15.00, and after that, you can only buy drinks and some snacks here, according to the waitress 😟

Such a great place! The food was absolutely delicious - we ordered vegetable soup and mushroom pasta. The flavors were rich and aromatic. The service was pleasant and professional. The atmosphere was cozy and so peaceful. A must-visit for lunch or dinner!

Amazing experience. My fiance and I were visiting after a wedding in Italy, we stayed in Zaandam during the early summer and didn't regret it. After dropping in for a late lunch, the young man serving us was as accommodating and friendly as could be. The who aesthetics and atmosphere was great, comfortable seating and decor by the canal. The food was good, but the experience was more than just food. What I could only assume to be the owner or a manager spoke to us at the checkout and was very friendly as well, spoke about the chocolate they were selling and places to visit. After paying I told one of the female waitresses to keep the change, but I was given this confused look, like they had not expected any tip, and after some translation it was resolved! (Just a funny encounter showing how different the tipping situation is here vs the west/Canada). Amazing place and people 🤩

Extremely friendly staff and good food. We are new in Zaandam and the friendly owner told us about all the nice places here. The room is a giant echo chamber though but that’s fine, it’s attached to a church after all.

Verrassing is true to its name, as it's easily missed from the high street. Once inside, it's a lovely, light spacious space with a terrace overlooking the zaan. Friendly staff and delicious food. Reasonably priced.
