Imran was a marvelous tour guide. He was full of information, answered all of our questions. So knowledgeable. We booked 2 days, private tour, had him all to ourselves. We visited every highlighted site by foot, train, taxi, and water. Could not have imagined a better tour. We highly recommend him and are extremely grateful for him making our Turkey visit an adventure.

It was a memorable and informative walk with our guide Imran today. Very enjoyable. He explained the history and stories well. The walking tour itself took about 2,5hrs with few stops along the way. Time flies fast. Hope to join another tour again with him in the future.

I joined the "Alternative Tour" and I do not recommend it. The guide (I don't remember his name) was a little bit chaotic and did not have good speaking skills, therefore I did not learn much about Istanbul or Turkey or culture. Also I got a very negative experience when he brought me to a 'tasting' which should have authentic and well priced Turkish Delight and spices, where I got scammed and paid almost 4 times more than in the other shops in the neighbourhood - probably the guide have some deal with the store. Please be careful - if the guide bring you to "Alpacino" please be careful

Our guide Imran had extensive knowledge of the old and historic sights of Istanbul. You can definitely tell he's passionate about that wonderful city and he loved sharing that passion with us. We learned so much and had an amazing journey! Definitely hope to return soon!

I highly recommend this tour at the beginning of your stay in Istanbul. You will be able to visit the most important monuments and get a lot of information about the rest to be done. On our side we just loved the first tour (morning one) with Yunis and we decided to do the second tour with him in the afternoon which was excellent as well. Yunis answered all our questions and we had a very pleasant time that made our trip special. Thank you.

Yunus is fantastic and very knowledgeable, thorough, and detailed in the stories about Istanbul, Islam, and the historical significance of everywhere we visited. I enjoyed the pace and sometimes I went away to pet the cats and then rejoined the group. The last stop of the coffee/tea shop was great too — fantastic prices, personable sales people, and Yunus even gave me a gift! I am excited to try out authentic Turkish sweets and tea :)

The tour was the highlight of our trip so far in Istanbul. The guide was knowledgeable, upbeat, and gave great insights into the landmarks, the history, and the culture. I cannot recommend the tour highly enough, and the local knowledge he had about where to shop, eat, and hang out was worth the price of the tour alone! 10/10 very happy with the service and the tour. Will be recommending to friends and family who visit Istanbul

Yunus was a great guide, very knowledgeable and interesting, who clearly loves his city and country. He managed a large group with many nationalities well and took us all into the Blue Mosque as the line was not too long. He also gave us tips about when to visit the Hagia Sophia on our own time. The tour could have been a little shorter (ran to about three hours) but this is not a real complaint! We saw much more than we would have done on our own. Recommended!

Definitely one of the best walking tours i have ever been to! The guys are great guides, quite funny and very friendly. On both tours I met interesting people, so I would come againt simply to hang out with them. You shouldn't miss this if you come to Istanbul :)

Cumali really made the tour! The tour felt more personable than most. It looked into what the everyday life is from someone who lives there. Would highly recommend

We enjoyed a great Walking Tour of the Highlights of Istanbul. Our guide was excellent in explaining the history behind the amazing Mosques & Grand Bazaar. We were fortunate enough to be able to visit inside both Mosques, it was stunning. It was so good to see all these amazing places & understand the history behind them in an interesting manner.

This tour was very basic. The guide spent a lot of time explaining how to use cash machines and public transport and very little time actually explaining any of the history of the monuments we were looking at. The explanations we did get were not very detailed, and poorly explained so it was genuinely quite confusing historically. I don't feel like I learned anything about the history of Istanbul. We were really quite disappointed.

This was an incredible tour, and I cannot recommend it enough. Our tour guide, Yunus, is a really engaging speaker and kept us interested for the entire 2 hours. I really appreciate how he gave us honest recommendations, not to mention delicious Turkish delight samples for free. Thank you!

I’ve been on a walking tour of most European cities and this was one of the best. The guide spoke extremely clearly and very engaging. Great history of old town Istanbul and Islam. At the end you’re taken to a Turkish delight store which he owns, however you genuinely do not feel pressured to buy. Great tea and sweets. Really recommend this tour

Very informative. (The Alternative Istanbul tour) Guide: relaxed, funny and open. Got to taste some pastry items from local vendor, and tasty sweets at the end which was nice. The old books vendors and walking through the old shisha bar was cool. I would never have walked through that on my own.

We were in Istanbul for a long layover. Done in good time, and our guide was very friendly yet professional. Gave us good recommendations for food and tidbits where the locals who work centrally tend to go to, which were delicious. Would recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with the alternative tour of Istanbul, walking through the old city and getting to know about the culture, like wedding traditions, history of the mosques and walking through the hidden alleys that otherwise we would not have found. Our guide Yunus was very knowledgeable on the history and able to share with us candidly that makes it engaging. A pity to do it on our last day on Istanbul, as they also have a traditional old town walk tour in the morning which we would have totally joined too! Well, Hoping there’s next time !!! 🤞🏻

Hands down the best way to get an overview of Istanbul, its history and culture. What's really special is they are owned and operated by locals. This isn't a branded walking tour by a company you'll see promoting tours in a whole bunch of other countries. These guys are specifically only for Istanbul and Turkey. We did two of their English-speaking tours - the Old Town tour and Alternative Parts Unknown tour. Both were excellent. The first gave a greatest hits of the city and the second shared a more intimate look into the Istanbul and Turkish way of life. If nothing else, I highly recommend starting your visit with their Old Town tour. It will set the tone for the rest of your trip and not only ensure you see all the best sites, but make sure you have an amazing time during the rest of your stay. (Their tip to visit Hagia Sofia after 5pm saved us hours of standing in line. And their restaurant tips were so spot on and amazing.) Istanbul can be overwhelming for a first time visitor. Their tours, and local insight, saved the day and provided us with amazing experiences.

I booked the tour the evening before and had no problem. I was contacted by WhatsApp within minutes for further confirmation and email with instructions. Meeting the group was very easy. We did the tour in Spanish with Emir. He is a very pleasant person. His Spanish is not perfect but good enough to talk to us for about three hours without problem. He is for sure very knowledgeable about history of the sites we visited. He also gives very good recommendations about restaurants, street food and Turkish manners. The tour with this company is highly recommended. It is a free walking tour but I advise the visitor to tip at least $10 but hopefully more. These are licensed professional guides that go to University to study tourism, languages and Turkish history. They are working for compensation not begging for your tip. Please give them what they deserve.

This tour was incredible! We had the tour guide Yunus and he did such a great job of teaching us about many aspects of Turkish culture and history. I enjoyed the Old Town tour with them so much, that I booked and attended the alternative tour two hours later. Can't recommend them enough

Did both the historical and modern tour with Yunus and he was fantastic - good humour and insight into Istanbul past and present. Also very responsive via WhatsApp which was appreciated. Recommend doing this at the beginning of your stay as he offers a lot of great suggestions on money exchange, bargaining, where locals eat etc. Photo of Rüstem Pasha (real blue mosque) from the modern tour which was our favourite stop.

Great walking tour, just wished we did it on our first day not out last! We did the hidden gems tour and it our guide was fantastic. Kept the group moving while sharing an I sight into Turkish culture. We would do it again for sure. Thanks again

Amazing tour! Yunus was a fantastic guide. This was not the only walking tour we took, but it is definitely my favorite. He took us through local hangouts, little nooks of old city in Istanbul, and gave an informative overview of Islam. I can’t recommend this tour enough if you are in Istanbul, it is not to be missed.

Amazing!!! Free walking tour with Viaurban , the best thing to do when you re first time in Istanbul They will guide u around, teach you about history culture, traditions, life in Turkey..everything. the tour is free, but obviously, based on tips These guys really deserve the tips, they try so hard to make you literally fall in love with Istanbul . So, it is important to tip and show respect and consideration about all the work the guides are doing. Without the tour, probably I would've just wondered around, taking pictures but without understanding what happens there around me. Keep in mind that you need to register online for the tour and let them know you re coming, so they know if they can organize the tour or not. Also, while in Istanbul, make sure you bring some scarf for your head and u got to have long pants/skirt when you enter in mosques-for women. And men need to have long pants as well. I totally recommend the free walking tours!

Pretty buildings without context are just that. Yunus’ tour gives the historical background that makes Istanbul come alive in a whole new way. For somebody just getting into the city, I’d recommend they take this walking tour before anything else. Yunus provides the practical tips and ideas that will help you make the most of your time in Istanbul, based on your own tastes and desires. Ask him anything, and you’ll be glad you did. I sure am!

Flying back home and reminiscing about a wonderful week we spent in Istanbul. One of the highlights was a tour with Free Walking Tour Istanbul by Yunus. He is a certified guide and makes a 2 hour fly by in a blink of an eye. Great narrating skills and perfect English. It was packed with history and interesting facts.

We do free walking tours in most cities we visit and these were some of the best we have experienced. We did the Old Town Tour on Day 1 and the Alternative Tour on Day 2. Both were really great! Yunus is a very knowledgable guide and provides a lot of honest information and insightful facts about Istanbul and Turkey as a whole. Would highly recommend both tours. We were also treated to some Turkish treats along the way…

I love free walking tours and this is no exception! Very responsive and well communicated, very knowledgeable and first hand local tips. Interesting history and all bite size. Makes the 2.5 hours feel short. High recommend this tour for anyone who wishes to know more about Istanbul.

We had a tour with Gül. It was fun and she cared well about the group. We did the recommended boattour afterwards as well. A bit annoying with 3 different guides in 3 different languages on the boat speaking together. But thats not a big thing. To get known to the city in generell, its a nice experience!

This was a great walk tour and a great way to see the city! We ended up doing 2 different walks on different days. Yunus was a great guide who gave us an insight into the Turkish culture and showed us some great sights on the back streets, where you might not venture on your own. Definitely worth doing one of their walks if you want a true insight into the Turkish culture and people. Thank you!

Cumali was our guide for the Alternative Istanbul Walking Tour. Cumali has an extraordinary depth of knowledge of Istanbul. He is an exceptional teacher and storyteller transporting us back in time, it felt like we were walking the streets and alleys in a different era! I cannot recommend this tour highly enough, I’ve done many walking tours and this one is top tier. I’ve been thinking about his stories for many days since the tour and learnt so much. Thank you Cumali! 🤩🙌

We had a fun walking tour with our guide Imran in the morning. He explained the details on every major spot we stopped on, from the mosques, cemetary, hippodrome, ATM, Grand Bazaar, and where we can eat like the local way. He was open to any questions and did not hesitate to help us with suggestions and ideas. Thank you. Hope to meet again for other tours.

It was our first time visiting Turkey and Istanbul, so as good travellers we decided to learn more about this beautiful and historical place. We have closed Basic travel free walking tour and it was excellent choice. This tour includes all basic sightseeing and Yunus was our good guide to the most attractive and important chapters of the Istanbul history. Dear Yunus, thank you very much for your exciting stories, astonishing moments. And at the end of our tour as a cherry on cake, we visited nice rooftop with very nice food and coffee.

Four of us started our visit to Istanbul with this 10:30am walking tour and we couldn’t have made a better decision! Our guide was engaging, informative, and thorough (in basic tourist needs and deeper cultural commentary). The pace was good, with consideration given for crowds, and places to return to on our own. Well worth the time and (a, voluntary, substantial) tip. Especially appreciated the lunch suggestion and tea spot at the end of the tour. If I’d known about it ahead, I would have also taken the more in-depth history tour he offered later that day. Excellent!
