Lovely set-up by the hostess in a garden that was cool compared to the heat of October nights in Harare. We enjoyed a meal which everyone has been raving about since. It was a great way to catch up with old friends after years apart. I enjoy dining at Queen Makeda as much as the next person, and this time the meal felt extra intimate and extra special. Thank you again for the awesome hospitality!

Loved our experience here...our anniversary fell on an odd day in the week so we were the only ones booked that evening...seems like a new place coming up. Family owned restaurant, nice decor (Ethiopian), nicely priced and really good food. Only thing missing was music... Yeah... A little Ethiopian music would've been appreciated nice😊

By far the best Ethiopian restaurant I have been! Everything fits. Wonderful food, perfect waiting time, tasty coffee and the Ethiopian lady (owner and cook) has always a heart-warming smile for the guests. I feel welcome and like home every time. A beautiful garden but also the inner space will make me feel comfortable. I don't live in Harare, but every time I come I won't miss to pass by here. Thanks for the positive experience every time!

I just had the weirdest experience here. It was my second time visiting. The first time things were okay. The food was good (veggie sampler) and the waiter was nice. BUT this time it was a mess. I showed up and it looked closed but then this man pops out. I ask him if it is open and he says yes, so I send my taxi away. Once inside he says he has to call the chef. Then he says there is no food and that they are closed. There was a lot of miscommunication and it was a waste of my time. Luckily the restaurant across the street was open so I wasn't stranded.

Amazing restaurant!!! Being a vegetarian in Zimbabwe can be a bit difficult when it comes to going to a restaurant. Half the time a restaurant will have a large selection of vegetarian dishes but when you go and order from them they will tell you the majority aren't available - leaving you with no options; and the other half of restaurants won't even bother to give any vegetarian options to start off with. I am happy to say that Queen Makeda is an exception to this, and always gives a large variety of amazing vegetarian dishes. Each and every dish she makes is absolutely superb. I wish she would adopt me and I could just live there and eat her food all the time.

Queen Makeda never fails to impress. The food is incredibly delicious, made fresh, delivered in good time, and generously portioned. The hospitality of the people who work there is also top class. I feel welcomed and well looked after. I am always surprised by how quiet the place seems to be, it deserves to be packed every night! A real hidden gem.

I wish I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars! Best restaurant in Harare. The food is home cooked and delicious. This is the place to go if you want a healthy, tasty and affordable meal. Every plate is made with a range of spices that come together to create the most amazing dishes.

Really had a good time here😁 The food was great, and Aaron was an awesome waiter. He told us a bit about the food we where eating and it's significance. He was polite and quite professional as well 🤗 I really enjoyed the food. I wish I had ordered a vegetable dish as well but it was great food! I was just a tad bit annoyed I suppose when the owner refused a $100 bill I wanted to use to pay because it had some writing on the back. I had received the money that way actually from an ATM...and from my understanding it's an issue when money is torn or perhaps, like fake, but not if someone's written on it. We used it soon after at Gelato Crema and it wasn't a problem. So I had to wonder if it had anything to do with the way we looked and if they would have requested the same ( to use a different bill) from anyone else. However, maybe I'm bringing baggage from the way I've been treated in other restaurants to this experience. Maybe it wasn't about the way we looked at all😂. I also had to remind myself that this is a family business(or at least it seems like it) and perhaps they have to be very careful I guess? But anyway, make sure you have clean looking money, I guess? Also, make sure you bring cash, because they don't take visa or MasterCard. Luckily They actually had change which is apparently rare these days 😂 Despite this tiny issue it was really nice there. Waiting time was great. The place could definitely do with a bit of background music and a greater variety of drinks( not a big fan of soft drinks). Food was nice and hot. There wasn't anyone else there so waiting time for food was good. The garden looked beautiful. The decor made it feel authentic. And, I mean it was definitely authentic because the chef is Ethiopian. The chef/owner (I think ) was very sweet when we came in initially and gave us some good recommendations for the dishes to order. My sisters really loved the food and I took them there so they could try it. They really loved the place as well, so if they are happy, I'm happy. We will probably be back for more because they definitely want to come back 😁

Harare isn't the best food landscape for vegetarians and Queen Makeda provides a welcome selection. Their food was good, but not excellent.

Their shiro and shekla tibs is really tasty. A craving satisfaction. The injera is so fresh. And the tiny dog is goofy. But it's an Addis setup.

Great food. Good atmosphere - it's a cozy place that reminds me of eating in a well-appointed house dining room. The chef was very thoughtful and even offered to make me injera made with 100% teff if I called ahead next time.

It's the best place if you r looking for a freshly home made food.It is also exceptional with it's traditional and original Ethiopian dishes. And the best of all; the iconic Ethiopian cofee with decorated ceremony. Have a visit that you won't forget.💚💛❤ Queen Makeda👌

Excellent food and service, and its a shame not many people seem to know of the restaurant. We were the only diners there for dinner. Let's hope more people visit else it may have to close.

Not an easy place to find but boy is it worth it!! The food is lovely and the service pleasant, the "hidden gem" vibe of the place is right up my alley. Good place to go if you're a vegetarian and of course the coffee is amazing. I think I might become a regular.
