It's only accessible by foot. The Swiss food was not too bad at all. It's just a bit unusually salty for Asians. Advance reservation is highly recommended for tourists. The toilet is only accessible by stairs since the place was built in over a century. Wheelchair is completely inaccessible to the toilet. Service was still great despite its crowd.

This place is a must-visit if you want to try out authentic traditional Swiss food in a traditional Swiss restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation in advance as this place was packed when we visited around lunch time. They have menus in multiple languages and the staff were very enthusiastic, helpful and friendly. Was brought her for lunch by my local friends and I tried the veal with Rosti (can’t exactly remember the name of the dish). The meal was served in around 10-15 minutes despite the restaurant being packed during lunch. Will definitely return!

Good old authentic Swiss food. We didn’t plan on going here until we asked a bunch of locals for an authentic restaurant. We went here, the schnitzel, cord en blue and pork shank were good. Potato salad is an amazing side that’s not on the menu. You have to make a reservation or U have no chance of getting in for dinner. The apple strudel for dessert was good.

Must visit. Great restaurant with interesting history. Delicious food, great drinks, awesome service, and friendly staff. Place always packed, but it is worth the wait, which you will be seated in reasonable time. If you are a party of two, expect to share table with others, which is cool to meet other travelers. We had a great experience.

We were looking for an authentic Swiss experience for our last night in Zurich. Not being Swiss, I don't know if it was authentic or not, but it was a delicious and enjoyable experience. The rosti had a nice crunch to it that I found to be truly enjoyable, the sausages tasty and the beer was good. Not the cheapest experience, but reasonably priced for Switzerland.

Lively food hall with German and Swiss food. I loved their paprika sausage, but not their pounded veal. Came with too many French fries. Not a terrible amount of dairy free options. Probably won't go again, but I did like that sausage more than most sausages. I also loved how spicy their mustard was. Don't find that much in the US.

If there is one restaurant to visit in Zurich, Zeughauskeller, is the one, imo. Established generations ago and encompasses a historic building that dates back to the 1480’s. It’s a combo of beer/dining hall that seats close to 400 and it’s always full. We went for dinner with no reservations but the wait was only 10 minutes. It has lively atmosphere with tourists, families and locals all dining. Sausages, brats and other meats primarily makeup the menu and they do it right. I had the fresh veal in mushroom sauce with a side of rosti €36 (think American hash browns) and my friend had the original veal sausage €23. Both were excellent. We added the meringue whipped dessert. Two meringue cookies, with ice cream in between and whipped cream on top €14. Also delicious. A bit pricey but you’re there for the experience, atmosphere, history as well as the very good food. Check out the videos and pics. That’s all for now!

Place was a good spot for excellent food, with a fascinating atmosphere as it used to be an old armory. Be mindful of it being crowded, you may have to expect a long wait especially during travel season. There was a good selection of food and all the dishes we had tasted excellent and none of us had complaints. The waitress who helped us could speak some English and was very helpful with our order, drinks and food. Definitely a good spot for tourists to eat lunch.

Embrace this tourist trap. We did it twice. Come for the beer hall atmosphere, surprisingly cheerful service and passable “traditional dishes” at reasonable prices for Old Town Zürich. You can even get some veggies to balance out their schnitzels if one order mindfully. Not that we did.

Delicious food for dinner. We ordered veal with mushrooms in delicious creamy sauce and sausages with mashed potatoes. Great atmosphere with armoury decorations and built in 1487. I would highly recommend must go for anyone visiting Zurich.

Fantastic experience all around! The place itself has an incredible history as an old armory and it's absolutely stunning. The staff were phenomenal and accommodating. (Reservation recommended but we still got in without one thanks to the savvy host!) The most important thing was the food and beer and our group was not disappointed. We each had different meals and tried a few different beers, yes a few. Shout out to their house beer! It was all excellent. After dinner we wandered around the most charming area of shops and gorgeous river views with swans. It was picturesque. 10/10 I would go out of my way to come back here the next time we come to Zürich. Danke, Zeughauskeller!

If you want to try typical Swiss food, I recommend this restaurant. The fact that the old weapons warehouse was maintained is also distinctive. Children guests are given colored pencils and paper while waiting for food. I think this is a good service for bored children. It may seem a bit salty to Koreans, but European food is everywhere with this level of seasoning. Overall satisfactory and the quantity and taste of the food is decent.

We had an absolutely perfect evening here! We did not have a booking, and it was very busy, but they seated us after a short wait (2 people). There are shared tables, so the atmosphere is vibrant and people are lovely! The food was excellent. A good range of Swiss dishes, extremely well prepared. The pork was cooked perfectly and their house dessert was extremely tasty, best meringue I've ever had! Their service is friendly and warm, yet professional. Every server was wonderful and very helpful.

Authentic, despite being a tourist attraction and in all the tour guides, it still delivers. Very down to earth with great service and food delivered very quickly. If you want to eat authentic Zürich then try the food here (not sure it would be the best choice for vegetarians).

The place seems to be a local attraction and almost all the time has a huge line of people who want to be seated. However, the place has two entrances the main where is the line and the other one right across it. Apparently (as we didn't know which one is which), we came through the second entrance and got seated without staying in line. Take it as the life hack. The place is sort of mesume as decorated with different pieces of weaponry from medieval time to WWII as the Switzerland is famous for its craft in weapon making The food was good and hearty, not fancy, more like on home-cooked style, but yet very tasty. I really liked their calf liver.

If you like beer halls with good food and good customer service then this place is the place to go. I went with a group of Japanese business men and the restaurant had a Japanese menu. That was probably the first time I’ve seen that happen. Definitely a recommended place to go and the prices are very reasonably with huge portions. 日本語のメニューもあります。

We were walking around and stumbled on this place. The line was long so we thought I must have been good. The line moved quickly and we were Seated in just a few minutes. The food here was delicious! As a family of four we all ordered something different including an appetizer and tried all of our dishes. Everything was great! Definitely would recommend.

Must have to visit, very atmospheric place, with very good house beer, strongly recommend to try house apple strudel, it’s fantastic Only thing that disappointed that one of the host didn’t know the rules of COVID testing, and was arguing with us that PCR valid only 48 hours, and didn’t want us to enter in. but In reality it’s valid 72 hours, finally we got inside

Restaurant that definitely deserves to be visited. It is extremely crowded especially on weekends, but it is worth it. The service is fast and professional, and the cuisine is typical Swiss and very good. The prices are ok, compared to the Swiss standard, the quality of the dishes and the location of the restaurant. If you do not make a reservation you may have to wait in a 15-30 minute line before you get in.

Nice place to visit, really touristy but the food is nice. Nice architecture inside enjoyed the beer and the wine selection in the place. Great place to hang out with family and friends to eat and chat. Please note this place expects to tip the waiter who was servicing your table so do not be shocked by this as it is normal. Suggest when comes to choices of beer and wine follow the suggestion of the waiter as they give good choices you will not regret.

This place is very large and very loud, so if that's not the atmosphere you're looking for then it's not the place for you. But if you don't mind that, and especially if that's the vibe you're looking for, then this place is great. The food was great and the potato salad is the best I've ever had. For how busy they were we not only got seated quickly, but the food and beer came quickly. The armory itself makes for a very cool ambiance as well. <Americans>

We spent two days in Zurich, and I wanted to find the place with the most authentic atmosphere and food. I suspect this beer garden gets to be the spot. We had the veal Zurich style here, and it was the most delicious one we had throughout our stay in Switzerland. Either beer on the menu you try, they are all great choices. The pork shank with the rosti was excellent as well. The bottom line, this is a must-try place with authentic dishes, beer, and a great atmosphere.

We came to Zurich as tourist and we had great lunch at this traditional Swiss restaurant. We ordered pork-Cordon Bleu and beef with mushroom wine sauce. The portion is big with either vegetables, noodles, rice or fried fries as side dishes. The food is served hot and taste good

This place was wonderful! Our crew of 5 stopped in without a reservation a couple nights ago and still managed to be seated in a lovely round table together, which was perfect for conversation! The food was fantastic! Service was top notch! I highly recommend it and will send other flight crew members there, ABSOLUTELY! One of my crew members chose the vegetarian tray and I wish I had photographed it! Honestly, it may be the most colorful and beautifully played LARGE meal I'VE SEEN in a restaurant! Gorgeous! She cleaned her plate entirely. The atmosphere was warm and relaxing, yet rich with history and drama. Perfect spot to dine in Zurich!

A very famous restaurant in Zurich, with many different specialties, due to the large crowd, the service will be slightly slower but the serving speed is very fast. It is recommended to book first to avoid waiting in line.

Food was really good and the staff were so friendly. I loved the schnitzel and the staff had suggested I have the potato salad as a side. I thought they went perfectly. The potato salad was a little tangy, which balanced out the grease from the schnitzel. Also had a side of sauerkraut and that was a huge serving. Very good though.

STILL GREAT, BUT NO MORE SAUSAGES BY THE METER The Zeughauskeller remains a mandatory stop in Zurich as much as Sprüngli across the street. Staff keeps it's usual friendly effectiveness and the hall is as cozy as ever. However, having been out of Zurich for six years I was disappointed by the menu's shrinkage. The restaurant used to boast about it's dozens of different types of sausages, many of them sold literally by the meter. It was something very fun for a foreigner, especially at home retelling the experiences at this Swiss banquet. Unfortunately that's no longer the case as the menu's sausages session is no longer than half a page with something around eight or ten options. On the bright side, this resizing prompted me to search for other items and I was very pleased with the beef broth, especially during a cold autumn morning. All in all, I'll keep making to Zeughauskeller every time I pop at Zurich. Only maybe not with the same kind of great anticipation. - Had lunch on October 11th 2021.

Such a cool place for a quick lunch! Great specials and waiter was so nice. We didn't have a reservation and they accommodated us right away. Food portions are huge and definitely good traditional Swiss cuisine. The decor and atmosphere definitely bring it all together.

The restaurant staff warmly welcomed us as we entered. Though we had only one hour to eat, we enjoyed the delicious food, especially the perfectly cooked meat. One rösti was a bit undercooked, while the other was overcooked, but overall, we were satisfied with the service. We highly recommend this restaurant for great food and atmosphere.

A lively and welcoming dining spot, where sharing a table with fellow diners is likely due to its historical mess hall decor—adding to the fun dining experience. The menu predominantly features sausages, potatoes, and cheese, offering hearty fare fit for a Viking.

Great food, great service, great place. Amazing pork knuckle, super juicy, tender, and great sauce! The rosti is perfect, yum! Service is the toppppp, super excellent. Those are the reason why this place is super popular, prepare for queue but you won't wait long, no worries. Such a must to go place!

Amazing service and food! Came here due to the good reputation and reviews and was not disappointed. We had the traditional bratwurst with potato salad and the sliced beef salad, with the house beer and then raspberry meringue for desert. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. I would note that if you are a group of 2 and wish to sit outside, you will share half the table with another couple. If your group is bigger than 2 then this wouldn’t be an issue. Other than that I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more and will definitely return when in Zurich again.

Tried the 2 recommended dish with beef and beef liver (?). The sides can be chosen from potato galettes, vegetables or salad. The portion was worthy of value. You always have a limited time for one meal, but as an experience to the famous restaurant, it’s worthy to try.

Very unique space with fast service even though it was full. Traditional Swiss meals that are hearty and delicious. If you're coming to Zürich this is a must

The restaurant offers traditional swiss food, in the centre of town. Fair prices, good service, and a great environment. You definitely need a reservation and be aware that you will get a time slot of 2 hours for dinner. It's still a very good recommendation for anyone, especially tourists. It has a limited offer for vegetarians.

On a blustery weekend without a reservation we were greeted warmly at the door and seated in moments. The friendly atmosphere continued with the service and conversation at a communal table (think German Beer Hall but not bench seating). Even with most tables set for later reservations, no one was turned away at the door. Our main server, Peter, had a friendly smile that was welcoming and added to the experience. The food and local draft beer were quite tasty and arrived quickly. Watch out for the spicy sausage - it is delicious but SPICY! Portions are larger than expected but you get your money’s worth.

Very nice restaurant. I got the pork shank - very tender and flavorful. Good beer. 4 stars as the service was a little slow.

This was exactly what we expected it to be: a tourist focused experience. The food was actually quite good, except for the apfelstrudrel, which was bland and burnt on the edges. The wait staff was exceptionally busy, so expect to wait for quite a long time to get their attention. When you get it, make the best use of it before they wander off.

Very tasty comfort Swiss/German food, perfect accompanied with their house beer. I got the popular Wiedikerli sausages from the recommendation of the server, which came with a heap of creamy potatoes on the side. The sausages were lean and a little more gritty in texture than I expected, but had a good carnal flavor. The creaminess of the potatoes were perfect and not overbearing, with a bit of sourness mixed in. The apple strudel was decent; the vanilla sauce it came with was perfect.

A staple in the old town of Zurich - No place to write home about but certainly a good choice for a quick, unpretentious dinner with out of town visitors. The atmosphere is rustic, touristy and noisy, but it has its charms. The food is ok-ish, the beer comes in pitchers and prices for both are pretty reasonable.

The best and bigger Rostl I have ever tried! This place is an industry, great food and experience although beware of long waits outdoor if you don’t reserve a table. Reservations are not possible on the spot, call ahead at least hours before

  • 5/5 Karen C. 2 years ago on Google
Haxe (Schwein) German pork knuckle is generous in quantity, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It is more delicious than the German pork knuckle that has been eaten in Taiwan. It is soaked in German dark beer and grilled until the skin is slightly charred and the meat is super tender. And the onion and potato salad with sour taste is very refreshing and appetizing. Highly recommend 💯😋

Typical restaurant in the touristic area of Zurich. Personally I was not impressed. The schnitzel is good, but I wouldn't say the costs match the quality. The restaurant benefits for being located where it is.

Visited once on our first full day on our recent stay in Zurich and low and behold we visited again on the day before we left. These places are fantastic and are always full of people eating, drinking and having a great time. The food we had was superb and the pork shank was glorious. The staff were very friendly and helpful and enjoyed a crack with us. The beer comes from a local brewery which we visited as it was not far from where we stayed. It was great beer to say the least. My wife's favourite was the 'Goldsprint' and mine was the 'Orion'. Fabulous!!

Came on a sunny warm May day around 6pm and was lucky to get a seat outside without any wait. Place was busy and service is not so great...
