Pirámide Kinich Kak Moo
Historical landmark
👍 Located two blocks away from the convent, it is one of the largest pyramids built by the Maya. The access is free, though the entrance is a bit hidden between two buildings. The pyramid is only partially restored so if you're expecting Teotihuacan-style edifice, you might be disappointed.

Convento de San Antonio
Catholic church
👍 Be aware the church is only open on Sundays. It’s worth a walk through the courtyard and taking some photos. But the real attraction is walking the side streets until you find the perfect cobblestone street with all yellow walls. If you have time, try walking around the back of the church to see the...

Pirámide de Itzamatul

👍👍 This was a great place to check out and it was free. There was a ton of garbage around the site, and I took my time to clean all of the garbage off around the pyramid. But I still loved the area and all the people around here that live in this city are extremely pleasant and welcoming. I am Buddhist...

👍👍 Have you heard about the yellow city in Mexico, Izamal? 💛
The entire city is painted in yellow and the remarkable thing is that there is no clear explanation for these yellow colors!
Izamal used to be a spiritual center for the Maya, with different temples to honor important gods. When the Spanis...

Archaeological Zone of Izamal
Archaeological site
👍 The archaeological site of Izamal is pretty small compared to others in the area.
It's located in the very center of Izamal village - in fact the Mayan town enabled the town to be built, as the Spaniards used its stones as foundations for their buildings, even for the Convent.
Doing so, they demolis...
