Wow. I am still in awe while writing this review. Too much picture perfect location. Though we were not able to fully go over the enter site, I can say that it was a very unforgettable experience to walk through those alleys and trying to imagine the life in there before and now. We will definitely go back again there soon, probably at night too to experience both day and scene.

The historic district meanders through many streets and as far as we could tell, runs SW to NE. We went at night and it was alive. The wonderful thing about being a tourist in Jeddah is that you are kind of invisible. These trading streets are ‘normal’ and there is no need to tout or haste visitors. We loved it and all the locals are so friendly and welcoming.

It's a very cozy part of town, when the renovation is finished it will be very good. Many small shops are cozy.

Walking through the narrow paths may seem uncertain at first, but its almost like finding treasures, you never know what you might see and where you might end up, but its fun none the less. Having a walk through the historical balad is a must when you are in jeddah

The historic district is theoretically very interesting. However everything is either demolished or under renovation. Forget to go around with googlemaps -just use it as a means to get somehow oriented- as half of the streets or even whole districts do not exist any longer.

The best way to explore Jeddah’s historic old town, known as Al Balad, is on foot. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is full of eye candy. Stroll down Al Balad’s narrow streets and discover the city’s past through the neighborhood’s well-preserved architecture. Take notice of the traditional buildings decorated with ornate wooden details around the doors and windows. Merchants began carving the highly decorative wooden bay windows and balconies, known as rawasheen, in the mid-1800s. No trip to Al Balad would be complete without stopping by Souq Al Alawi, the oldest souq in Jeddah, to pick up some traditional spices, fabrics or a souvenir for someone back home.

We toured this area with a private guide and enjoyed the well versed history and being able to go inside of some of the houses. There is a lot of construction in the area as they work to stabilize and restore some buildings but it was still a great overall experience. Highly recommend visiting this area with a local guide.

Beautiful historic part of Jeddah, enjoy meandering around the ancient alleys, jumping from one shady patch to another. So many cute cats roaming the streets, with the local mostly embracing them, and feeding them when they can. Some areas currently under reconstruction, and many shops and sights not open at the time I went (morning).
