Passing through and after reading the reviews of hearty portions and seeing pictures, I decided to stop. Was craving a hearty and delicious breakfast and ordered the Rustic Breakfast for 8.99 which includes 2 biscuits, 2 eggs, 1 meat, hash browns and gravy. About 30 min later, I was greatly disappointed 😞 Looks like someone's leftovers. There was one biscuit cut in half,, not 2 as described, bacon was soggy from sitting in the gravy and one of the strips is barely cooked and not edible. The hash browns were non existent and the gravy was sparse. The only positive, the wait staff was extremely friendly and prompt.

Again I'm disappointed with Rustic Cafe. Today I drove from Gila Bend Arizona for fuel and a meal. I got my fuel with no problem, but Rustic Cafe was a different issue. I've been sitting for the last 7 1/2 hours driving and I was planning on sitting down to a good meal. The cafe was open, but for take-out only. I ordered my burger and fries with a tea. When the meal came out in a box I took it back to my truck. The burger was just a bun with a hamburger patty with a slice of cheese. There was enough fries to fill a coffee cup (barely.) And there was no tea brewed. Also no credit cards allowed, cash only. Why did they remodel the dining area? Tax write-off maybe. I'm very disappointed and will be fueling at Allsup's in the future.

Can't really give an accurate review because they gave us notice upon arrival that they only had 1 cook & it would be a very long wait so we left. We did notice everyone already seated looked pretty upset & saw some other people walk out as well. As far as appearance, not an inviting place, inside a gas station, looks like a very dive place. Won't attempt going back.

Chef Sam server Sam, server Sam 2 And their amazing manager made this one of the best homestyle home cooked meals we've had in such a long time. The hamburger steak was cooked perfectly. The gravy was amazing. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy and the corn had a little spice to it. That was just out of this world. Would we go back in a second! Should you go most definitely! We cannot thank them enough for the hospitality. The generosity, the great food and the company. We brought my service dog with and they treated her just like part of the family. I definitely must go when you're in Alamogordo New Mexico!!

This place has really gone downhill over the past few years. The staff, the food, and the customer service suck now. I would recommend going elsewhere to get a good meal…

I have LOVED Rustic Cafe for years ! This trip was so disappointing . Actually the last couple of visits have now sealed my decision not to ever eat there again. We got our hamburgers and they were so dry we could barely eat them . There were maybe 7 french fries with my husband's burger , and my double order of mashed potatoes barely equalled one. They were supposed to be 1/2 lb burgers but were no where near that, the buns swallowed the burgers . Neither one of them had any lettuce ,tomato or onion ,pickles on them . My mushroom Swiss didn't have any mushrooms. My husband's all in didn't have the jalapenos or bacon . It was so disappointing. It's really sad to lose one of our favorite places to eat , hopefully someday it will go back to how it used to be . For now we will be eating somewhere else.

patty melt was good. Onion rings were good. green chili stew was a little salty and the portion ridiculously small.

Absolutely the best double cheeseburger and fries I’ve had in a very long time. Tasted like homemade. Food was so hot, I almost burnt my mouth. The way I enjoy my food. I’ll be back again.

The food was good the wait staff was good the professionalism in the kitchen was another story while sitting at the farthest table from the kitchen I was able to hear the f word 2 times along with the rest of the statements, and the statement "we gonna scrap " clear as a bell. The manager needs to get a better handle on the situation. We will just say in closing it is a good thing I am not the gm I would have ruined 2 peoples day but it would have improved the restaurant for the patrons.

Travelers beware! We thought to give it a try because the previous reviews show some good appealing food but we ordered a enchilada plate they had no rice and beans. They offered to substitute for mac&cheese and onion rings but small portions <which worked out> because the onion rings were cold and soggy. Ordered a milkshake and they ran out of ice cream. Chips and No salsa. And sadly the green chile sauce was not even on the enchilada plate...so I asked for extra on the side and it was watery. Waitresses is nice and not their fault. But we left displeased.

Our waitress was also the boss/manager of the Cafe and had been there since 5 am. She told my family that she had people call in sick and others who called in and quit. In all I believe she had been running the cafe and waiting tables for about 15 hrs by herself but she was holding on strong and wasn't letting that effect her customer service. If my family is ever back in the area we will return to enjoy another meal at this Cafe.

We stopped for breakfast on our way home from a holiday trip. The server told us they were understaffed, with only herself, one cook, and one dishwasher. Despite the short staff, everything about our meal was amazing! Our food came out faster than some fully-staffed restaurants and it was absolutely amazing! Everything tasted so so good! Plus the staff (and a local gentleman) were incredibly friendly and clearly took a lot of pride in the food they served. Overall, I am so happy we picked this place for breakfast and the next time I drive through Alamogordo, I'll probably stop again!!!

The food is okay, not bad by any means. Just nothing to write home about, but the pricing is fantastic. That being said, the main factor that has me visiting this restaurant multiple times would have to be the staff's attitude, and the overall vibe of the place. It feels like everyone there is in a good mood, and it would seem that this positive attitude shared between staff and customers alike has lead to everyone in the building being pleasant to be around.

You definitely need to stop and eat here. Although the restaurant is attached to a gas station the food is amazing. The service is awesome too. I stopped here at night and got their big rustic plate. There was so much food that I couldn't eat it all. The grits here are awesome, some of the best I've ever had.

We’ve eaten here tons of times. Great parking for our truck. We retired and came to visit family. Stoped in to eat. Stood 15 minutes as the waitress walked by several times and didn’t say one word. Jean came by and address us. Got sat down ordered sweet tea, shocked it wasn’t, but doable. In the mean time, 4 people walked out because of no service. Jean was very busy while the other lady was just kind of him hum. Jean is very sweet and smiled and handle it well. Food was good. Service wasn’t. Shame. This is our favorite spot to eat.

Definitely a hole in the wall little Cafe. Truck stop gem. Me and the Hubby had BLT's with and egg. Which I call a BELT. Typical truck stop decor and the waitress was friendly and efficient.

Was there for an hour. When we got our chicken fried steak it was under cooked so they made another one it was rare. We did have the orka and cornbread it was the best. I feel that once the Cafe gets more help it would be great.

We where here last night got great service and good food. But this morning the old blonde hair waitress just come completely gave us the cold shoulder didn't want to say anything to us taking care of everybody else but us. I'm sorry but we didn't anything to this woman and we tip very good. We will not come back here anymore they lost our business. She pass by us 6 times not wanting to look at us.

A much improved location from ages past. More closed in and modern, separating itself from the rest of the gas station. Food has improved, and the portion sizes are modest. A little pricey for what you get, but worth it for a quick bite.

Ordered and didn't received drinks for half an hour. Upon finally receiving food at the 50-minute mark french fries were still frozen and the green beans were colder than warm. Having ordered the chicken I was afraid that if they couldn't even get those temps right, the chicken would probably kill me.. this place used to be amazing. Now it's Alamogordo standard service. Less than one star worthy.

There were swarms of flys hovering around the tables. It was very hard to eat because I was trying to keep the flys off my food. Also, had to wait for 30 minutes for food and there were no other people in the cafe. I don’t know if it changed hands but it use to be a great place to eat. I will not be dining in there. I’ll only do take out
