. . The artifacts exhibited in the museum dates back to nearly 300,000 years ago. Starting from that date, you can trace the unerupted storyline of civilizations that lived in Anatolia over the ages. Here, you can find the first tools humans ever used in the Palaeolithic Age, the remainings of the first agricultural settlement ever created in the history: Çatalhöyük, and sculptures of their beloved Mother Goddess. One of the most important artifacts is the tablet in Akkadian scripts (1275-1220 BC) - a correspondence from Egyptian Queen Nefertari to Hittite Queen Puduhepa written after Kadesh Peace Treaty - the first peace treaty in the world history, dated 1275-1220 BC found at Boğazköy. As you move further and further in time, Museum of Anatolian Civilizations proves to be a treasure chest filled with history, containing artifacts from the most influential civilizations such as Hittites, Phrygians, Urartians, Lydians, Hellens and Romans. If you ever visit #Ankara, know that you can witness the beginning of time and story of how we got here in the first place. . . Excellent museum and park, covering so many different periods. Recommend spending a few hours here, then walk around the shops and other ruins nearby. Descriptions are in Turkish, and also in English, which we appreciated!

(Translated by Google) The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations consists of two Ottoman buildings in the district called Ankara Ulus district Atpazarı, which was arranged by giving new functions to the southeast wall of the outer wall of Ankara Castle. One of these structures is Mahmut Pasha Bedesten and the other is Kurşunlu Han. It is estimated that Mahmut Pasha Bedesten was built between 1464 and 1471 by Mahmut Pasha, one of the chief viziers of Fatih period. Kurşunlu Han, on the other hand, was built as the foundation of the imaret of Mehmet Pasha, one of the chief viziers of Fatih period, in the district of Üsküdar in Istanbul. It was turned into a museum as a result of its works. After the repair of a large part of the domed room in the middle part of the bedestere was completed in 1940, the works began to be placed, while the repairs of the buildings continued in 1943, the middle section was opened to visitors. The museum structure took its final form in 1968. In Kurşunlu Han, which is used as an administrative building today, there are researcher rooms, library, conference hall, laboratory and business workshops, and Mahmut Pasha Bedesten is used as exhibition hall. The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, which has come to the present with its historical structures, deep-rooted history, was chosen as the first among 68 museums in Lausanne, Switzerland, and became the "Museum of the Year in Europe" on April 19, 1997.

If you are visiting Ankara you should definitely visit this museum. It is a fantastic experience and you learn so much about history. Most artifacts go as far back as 6000 BC. It's clean and well cared. I would recommend purchasing audio guide option when buying tickets in order to understand what you are seeing. Highly recommend.

This is a fantastic and fascinating museum. You literally walk through the evolution of humanity from palaeolithic times to the Classical era. It’s well laid out (except you do have to backtrack a bit to get to the Classical section) and has a great collection with things I haven’t seen in other museums. Highly recommend if you are in Ankara.

A gorgeous museum located on the hill in Ankara. The museum grounds alone are very scenic and beautiful. Items curated there are well lighted and labelled. Happened to have a musical performance going on when I visited. The acoustics are very good indeed. And the performance was very enjoyable. Enjoyed my visit thoroughly. Really wished I could have stayed longer. Spent 2.5hours there and it wasn't enough. Guess I will have to try to visit again ! Entrance Fee in 2022 - Sep : TL 75 * I hope they publish a new museum guide with all the items in it. Currently, it's split into multiple books with lots of items not in it. It would be of great interest to people who don't have the time or photographic equipment to capture all the great artifacts kept here.

Epic. Located in the Ankara Castle the museum is separated by sections, each representing different Anatolian culture, starting from Neolithic Çatalhöyük all the way to the Hellenistic era. I wish only that the Hittite section was bigger. Probably one of the most interesting sections was with the tablets found in Assyrian trading colonies that show us how the Bronze Age people were no different than us today. Marriage certificates, contracts, letters. If you are interested in ancient history - a must place to visit.

(Translated by Google) An excellent museum. How far-sighted was Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK founded this museum in 1921. God rest the soul. In the museum, it is possible to see the traces and works of all civilizations that lived in Anatolia and to have information about them. Those who have knowledge about esotericism can come across traces of esoteric teachings with symbols and mythological expressions in the giant stone tablets in the central part of the museum. It is also unique in this respect. I was very impressed by seeing the famous stone tablets mentioned in many works. To see what was told thousands of years ago has obviously made me goose bumps. Please see the fineness of the cuneiform in the photos we shared. What kind of technology was able to get it done at that time. Interesting.

The museum will give a clear snapshots of the Anatolian civilization, their social life, art, cultural depictions with the remainings excavated by the archeologists. The museum is classified based on the archeological periods (like stone age bronze age etc.) If you are interested in history then it's a must visit. Otherwise it's advised to know about Anatolian civilization and then visit. (2Hour minimum duration required)

You have to visit this museum if you’re visiting Ankara or even close to it. The location is also great being very close to the castle so you can visit both on the same day. The actual museum isn’t very large compared to other museums in turkey but it’s very clean, well organized, items are presented in a nice way, and has a lot of history. The only thing I didn’t like is that the downstairs floor isn’t well decorated as the upper floor

Great museum, the ticket it's very cheap, and it's a 20 min walk, inside you will see a lot from the beginning of the human kind, also the evolution through the past of the years, it's a must have in Ankara, if you want good pictures being a camera because there's no chance to use cellphone flash so your photos will get dark. Very recommended.

Takes you back to history with amazingly prserved exhibits along with a great deal of details. The tickets to the museum available at the entrance. It was a pleasure to walk through the beautiful pebbled streets around the Castle area where there are plenty of antique shops and kilim merchants. And of course with feline masters well looked after by the towns man. I wish to go there again.

If you visit Türkiye you must visit this museum. Within its walls are the items from all the places you visited across the country. Used my Museum Pass to skip the line. Arrived early to beat much of the crowds. Spent 3 hours walking all the halls and enjoying the treasures of Türkiye. Favorite was the Midas displays (Midas touch) and the artifacts and wall murals from Catalhoyuk which visited prior week (this is a 9,500 year old Neolithic city just south of Konya - still being excavated and had an estimated 20k population). They had some displays on lower level of items found locally just in past couple years - amazing what they are still digging up. Thanks to the staff too for all the great friendly service. They have some amazing items in the courtyard not to be missed. Great gift shop too.

Great collection, sections, and story telling. Museums in Turkiye are always nice to visit. It's nice that Turkish Museum Card has an application called "Museum Cards". I don't have to carry a card anymore and all the tickets and museum pass can be purchased in advance. I can also check all the museums available in certain cities before I visit.

A collection of artifacts starting from the Neolithic era up to the Roman era. The collections exhibited here are mostly discovered during the excavation around Ankara and Turkey. The descriptions are available in Turkish along with English. If you have extra money, you could pay more for an audio guide to help you learn things around the museum if you think reading is a bit inconvenient. It's highly recommended to go here if you are interested in Anatolian civilization history.

Anadolu Medeniyetleri Müzesi, Ankara'nın Altındağ ilçesinin Ulus semtinde bulunan tarih ve arkeoloji müzesidir. Müzede, Anadolu'nun arkeolojik eserleri kronolojik olarak sergilenmektedir. Müze, Ankara Kalesi’nin dış duvarının güneydoğu kıyısında, yeni işlev verilerek düzenlenmiş iki Osmanlı yapısında yer alır. Bu yapılardan biri Veli Mahmud Paşa tarafından yaptırılan Mahmut Paşa Bedesteni diğeri ise Rum Mehmet Paşa tarafından yaptırılan Kurşunlu Han’dır.

The time Line starts from around 10.000 BC to the Roman era. It is truly remakable to see the craftmentship of the time, and you cannot stop thinking that the technique used for almost 10.000 years ago are almost the same most people still use today. I must say that before my recent trip to Turkey, I wasn't really interested in going to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations (Anadolu Medeniyetleri Müzesi) in Ankara. Most of the time, I don't enjoy visiting museums that focus on historic cultures. But I'm happy to report that visiting this specific museum was a fun and memorable experience that I'd heartily recommend to others. I was immediately taken by the museum's stunning architecture, which skillfully combines modern style with the old building it is located in. The museum's layout has been well thought out and organised to make it easy for visitors to move about and thoroughly immerse themselves in the fascinating history of the many Anatolian civilizations. The sheer variety of artefacts on show at this museum is one of its most outstanding features. It is evident that the curators have worked hard to offer a thorough picture of the area's history, covering everything from the Palaeolithic era to the Hittites, Phrygians, and Lydians. Visitors are better able to comprehend and appreciate the value of the artefacts they are viewing thanks to the thorough descriptions and educational panels that accompany each exhibit. The interactive features of the museum, which cater to a variety of age groups and interests, were another thing that truly pleased me. The museum does a good job of ensuring that history is understandable and fun for everyone, whether it be through an interesting multimedia presentation about the Assyrian Empire or interactive games for kids. For their expertise and helpfulness, the workers at the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations also merit special attention. They made for a very educational experience by being more than happy to answer any queries and offer further details on the displays. In conclusion, although if the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations was not initially on my list of places to go, I am glad that I had the chance to do so. The museum is a must-visit location for anybody travelling to Ankara thanks to its well-organized layout, varied collection of artefacts, fun interactive features, and informed personnel. I'd highly recommend making time to visit this fascinating museum, whether you're a history enthusiast or just seeking for something to do for an afternoon.

The awful experience. I don't recommend it. Don't go and don't pay for these tourist trap museums. Their entrance tickets are 280 TL for foreign adults and locals pay less than half. But the worst is that it is still the same price (280TL) for foreign students with an ISIC card (International Student Identity Card). They don't even accept it. However, Turkish students pay 80TL for entrance. Maybe they consider foreign students as millionaires.

Perfect size for diving into early anatolian history for some hours. I like the chronical order of the exhibition that let's you feel how the people improved certain techniques over time. I also enjoyed that there are tons of information texts (Turkish & English) that you can read, but don't have to. After seeing the exhibition, the calm garden café is really inviting to have some food and drink.

Nice museum but its kinda boring and not that big. It just has way old stuff back before jesus was born. It's just filled with old spoons, ancient bathtubs and old stones. I would recommend Rahmi M. Koç Museum first (which is also cheaper btw) and then this one.

(Translated by Google) A museum that can pay enough 45 TL. It would be better if there was an explanation in Korean, but how much would there be such a place if it wasn't in Korea. You can easily understand English explanations, so you can find little fun if you read them while looking at every corner. The picture is a divorce certificate in ancient wedge letters! It was amazing that the contents were not very different from those of these recent years.

The museum is nice, it has very interesting items but unfortunately the staff are not friendly. They ask people to leave the museum 15min earlier. They close at 18:45 not 19:00.
