Stayed for 3 nights over a weekend in the 6-bed dorms. Linens were clean, and it was nice to have a light, charge point, and privacy curtain in the bed. Dorm mates were all respectful of each other’s space and friendly. No air conditioning though, so be prepared for that. Make sure to bring good earplugs since the hostel is on a bustling road near a karaoke bar. Kitchen was clean and well-stocked. Showers and toilets were clean enough, although the shower drains need help (doesn’t drain the water fast enough). Staff were helpful any time I had questions. WiFi was strong. Overall, I’d recommend this hostel and would stay again.

Very friendly staff and accommodating for my odd arrival and departure times. Cleaning often, but could do with cleaning duvet covers and appearance of mold in showers' overhead cover. I felt safe, bed was comfortable, common room area inviting. Did not feel like a party hostel at all. Felt like guests were mature adults, not youngins that need to grow up. Liked that the kitchen was not completely closed overnight. You can use the microwave in the overnight hours. Area is close enough to go to city hot spots or easily catch transit. Can be loud outside. I would stay here again. I'm actually sad I booked last minute and my preferred room wasn't available for my entire time in the city.

Room was clean and well-designed. Reception was friendly. But the area was not safe, a lot of homeless people, druggie, walking around and begging for money. A lady swore to me and kept punching the wall as I did not respond to her.

I spent 5 nights in this hostel. I arrived late the first day and was made very welcome. Showers and rooms are clean. In the hostel there are no noises at night. What makes noise is the karaoke bar next door but luckily it doesn't last all night. This did not prevent me from getting up around 7:30. You will find what you need nearby. I recommend

Great hostel, but reception closes at around 4/5pm. One night a room was overbooked and the ‘emergency’ number didn’t pick up for an hour… not reassuring. Otherwise staff are nice, the people who stay there are quiet, but note the area is not a nice part of Auckland, many homeless or drunk people hanging around entrance. This is not their fault but forward facing room ( female dorm ) faces a karaoke bar that goes to 2 am sometimes and loud arguments between the homeless downstairs cause be overheard and wake you up in the night. Good beds, no squeaking, duvet covers could be cleaned a little more. But would stay here again.

The hostel is good, even though the kitchen is small for the number of people there. But the bad thing is that it is impossible to sleep. It's full of homeless people right outside, they yell literally all night. So if you want to sleep it is not the right place.

Really nice and friendly hostel with good facilities. However, had a big issue with sleeping here as the noise coming from outside was just overwhelming. Also didn’t like the fact that the duvet covers are not washed after every guests use.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and it was lovely! We had a private room which was tidy & clean. Not a massive room, but plenty of space for our luggage and backpacks. Our receptionist was great, she told us all we needed to know upon arrival and was very helpful overall. Location is great, as everything is close by, easy to catch a bus, if needed. Of course, there were some interesting characters cruising around in the area especially later at night, but that’s out of Haka’s control (obviously). Common areas we’re clean, convenient and well equipped. Would definitely recommend if you’re in Auckland just for a day or two & wanted to stay in a cool neighbourhood.

Great hostel! Lots of space in the kitchen and lounge area. The staff are friendly. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. Unfortunately, it’s a great hostel in a terrible area. We left a night early (non refundable). There were 3 police outside our room the last night, constant yelling and arguing, broken glass, half dressed women screaming in the street, and music until 4am. We never slept. We’ve stayed in multiple hostels above bars, but nothing compared to this volume and bass. It felt unsafe going outside morning, afternoon, and night. There are so many visibly intoxicated and cracked out people constantly outside. We almost ubered to our car in the garage a 10 minute walk away (and terrified our car would be broken into after reading reviews) because we didn’t want to walk down the street with our luggage. It’s an unfortunate situation for this place.

One of the best hostels that I ever been. It has all the things that you need to hang off, meet some people and rest. Big kitchen with a lot of elements to cook, big sofas and room to hang off, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms with nice showers. Also the atention was perfect. 5 stars

This has been one of the nicer hostels. It is in a centrally located spot and the windows need to be open to keep the room cool, so expect noise outside. Stayed two separate nights and was happy with the place.

Very convenient location close to town centre. Reasonably priced. Staff are very helpful and friendly and hostel is well-cleaned and taken care of. Beds are comfortable with curtains and a night light for privacy. Most people who stay are fairly chilled, not lots of loud partying late into the night. Only downside is that the bigger dormitories are near to a noisy street, but I wore earplugs and this was fine.

Amazing stay at the Haka Lodge. The place is as pretty and nice as in the pictures, and even though you may sleep with a lot of people in a room, you still get a lot of privacy having the curtains and plugs and all in each bed! The staff were all amazing, and helped me a lot every time I unexpectedly needed to extend my stay a little longer. It might not be the cheapest hostel in the area (which btw, great location, just a few minutes walking of everything), but it's definitely worth it. If I ever need to stay somewhere in Auckland again, I'll for sure stay in Haka!

First booked a private room for 2 nights. Was very clean. Comfy bed. Good shower. Nice atmosphere in the hostel. After we moved to the 8 bed dorm. Also clean and nice beds. Can be a bit noisy in the evening so bring earplugs! :-) Good location as well. Walking distance to the centre.

The hostel is a disaster wherever you look at it. I was hosted twice, due to price reasons one might believe that it is a good option, but: It is dirty, the sheets have hair and the beds, being made of wood, have accumulated dirt from a long time. In my second stay I was constantly bitten by mites in the bed. I couldn't rest and had to go to sleep on the couch. Nobody took care of this, manager Nicholas Kosowatz did nothing but evade and make excuses by email. Currently and after 3 nights I still have bites and wounds from sleeping in the bed of this disgusting hostel. They never offered to return the money for the night nor did they ask how I was feeling, they only said that the staff inspected the bed and did not see anything (when mites are not usually seen and their wooden and dirty beds are a favorable space for this). Here's a star, because you can't put less. And a warning to anyone thinking about going to this hostel not to do so. The worst thing I've ever known.

Really good hostel in the area of Ponsenby, which has some good bars and restaurants. There are good connections by bus to get to CBD, or just take a short walk. The hostel itself is clean. The kitchen is tidy and a good place to meet other travellers, even though it didn‘t seem to be one of those stereotypical party hostels. The best thing were the rooms: every bed has curtains, socket, light and even a small shelf. There was enough space to store luggage. Would definitely recommend to go there if you plan to visit Auckland.

Too soft mattress, so bed is uncomfortable. It's very noisy so be aware it's like drunk people are yelling in your room. Receptionist is helpful and friendly.

  • 1/5 Fabián Correa C. 9 months ago on Google
The windows did not close, fresh air entered all night, being close to a party street the windows did not insulate the noise because they are old. The sheets had fungus and we noticed it the next morning. An expensive stay, room with problems in the windows and fungus in the sheets. 158 nzd

Fabulous hostel! Comfortable beds, secure, large rooms, all the facilities. Only wished their common room was a bit bigger

I stayed in the 6bed female room, I loved that each bed has its own curtain, shelf, plug and night light besides the lockers under the bed. I loved it, the staff were amazing, it was clean, great location. I’d definitely recommend

When we just so happened to be here, there was loud Karaoke throughout the night, and was really hard to get a good sleep after arriving in Auckland that afternoon. Beds weren't fantastic, but for a backpackers hotel, they were alright. So, if you can get to sleep really really easily - this is the place for you.

Rooms were quite nice, kitchen was good, bathrooms decent too. Staff could maybe interact with people abit more, didn't even get a hello most days and the noise from the street got annoying at times too

I Stayed last night in a Double Ensuite Room and wow it was beyond expectations. Firstly I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who assisted with my wifi and locating/entering of room/lodge everything was perfect the shower had hot water and the bed was comfy with a fan providing maIn air conditioning the tv was useful too positioned safely no problem with carparking found one easily in daytime the only downfall was would have been ideal see private kitchen facilities and utensils a microwave ? Maybe also advise when you are deducting payment beforehand as I had no idea it was paid apart from that I would indeed stay there again in future and I did not mind the noise on Saturday evening right thru after midnight

I stayed in a medium sized private room with a private bathroom and was amazed at the quality for the price. 88nzd for a clean, tidy, all around good looking room. The receptionist was nice and staying there was very relaxing. Loved it.

Stayed in private room with bathroom for one night and it was good. Information was well delivered and room was neat and clean. There was a much needed fan in the room and we slept with windows slightly open and no bugs came in. We never used any of the other facilities but it should be good if it compares to the rest of the place. Area is quite dodge (for NZ) but some cool bars around and it's an easy walk to Wynyard Quarter.

Dorms are quite nice, the curtains around the beds is nice, but there is noone doing any cleaning. The bins in the dorm and toilets were both overflowing but still weren't emptied for two days. The kitchen was slightly better, but still not great. If they sort out the cleanliness it could actually be quite a nice hostel.

Clean with lots of amenities. Beds are ok, pillows are awful but that's par for hostels, and there are large shared fridges in the kitchen/lounge. Lots of people leave food behind here, and the staff is diligent about marking it as "free", so I haven't had to buy breakfast yet!

The nicest hostel I've ever stayed at. The beds, rooms, and bathrooms were clean and comfy. The female dorm with 5 beds was perfect. A couple guests did have their passport stolen out of the common room (watch your stuff!) And a backpack out of the luggage room. You can lock your belongings in a crate built into the beds in your room once you check in 👍🏻

Had a ton of fun here! The atmosphere in the communal areas always seemed very good and I met a ton of cool people here. Too bad the communal areas close at midnight :p. The kitchen is well equipped, the facilities are clean and the 20-bed dorm honestly is pretty good as there is lots of space and you have your own bunk bed with curtain anyway.

Nice hostel. I stayed in the 7 bed dorm. Seemed like someone was always coming in late and leaving early. Has a nice common room and kitchen that people hang out in, although most people were on their phones. Still met some people to hang out with. Bathrooms and showers were always clean. The floor I was on had 3 private toilet rooms and 3 shower rooms that the whole floors used. Located on a busy street that can be a little noisy at night, and is a little bit of a walk from the ferry and the main downtown (about 30-40 min, And has a steep hill).

We changed to this hostel because the first one was really bad....it was like night and day. Staff is super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Rooms are huge and even it was a 20 dorm it was really comfy and quiet. Every bed has its private space with curtains, lights etc Everything is clean and there are enough showers and toilets. The kitchen is well equipped and clean as well. No complaints, would stay here again!!

Bostayed (not slept) in a 6p female room. Could not sleep longer than an hour. The first night there was karaoke in the lounge till after 12am, both nights loud noises from the street and from the inside.not sure about the other rooms, but if you need to rest, go to another hostel.

Haka Lodge is definitely the five star hostel of Auckland. You'll be treated well by the staff. The rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and shared space are always clean and tidy. If something happens to not work properly, they'll do their best to fix it. There's a great range of rooms and the dorms are well furnished : individual solid beds that can provide intimacy thanks to curtains. You'll have a lamp and plugs at your disposal. Enjoyed my stay here, met a lot of nice people. You won't be disappointed.

As long as you don't mind the busy road noise from the pubs and cars then it's a great place to stay. Rooms were tidy, staff were really friendly and a great location for restaurants, pubs and getting into town.

Beds were great and the communal dining area was well stocked with kitchenware and condiments left behind by other backpackers. Laundry is down at the basement and it's $4 if I recall. Just note the excessive noise at the bars in K road might disrupt your sleep at night especially during the weekend.

  • 5/5 Stuart T. 1 year ago on Google
Great hostel - clean and bright throughout, with a excellent number of well kept toilets and bathrooms. Communal areas have everything you need, plenty of cooking, prep and seating in the kitchen and coin operated washing and drying in the basement.

I had a private room for 1 night with a shared bathroom and found it to be clean with all the basic necessities. However, the morning of my second day, there had been some miscommunication between the hostel and the tour company I came with (Haka tours). I was supposed to be at a different hostel instead of being at Haka lodge and was not made aware of this. I received a message from my tour guide (at approximately 12pm) that I had to vacate the hostel by 1pm. When I received this message, I was at Sky tower and had just got to the sky cafe and was waiting for my coffee. I asked the tour guide to ask the hostel staff if they could give me till 2pm to come back and was told the answer was a no. The tour guide then told me that the hostel staff are wanting to move my stuff out of room if I didn't come back in time. I then had to immediately rush from sky tower, take an uber to the hostel and vacated my room within 20 mins. Thankfully, my tour guide was sitting in front of my room guarding my room till I got there. Whilst I understand that the hostel were short staffed and that they had new guests checking in at 2pm, I was very stressed about this whole situation and was not happy with the attitude of the staff and the way in which they dealt with it, especially when they tried to move my things without my permission.

  • 3/5 Vincent L. 1 year ago on Google
Decent facilities by hostel standards - horrible attitude by staff - nine to five hours for reception pretty lame but that seems to be prevalent throughout New Zealand when it comes to hostels - but reception aren't there even during nine to five anyway.........so overall average
