Tired, run down, unhygenic (the toilet seat in room 102 long ago lost its sheen, is discoloured with a rough surface that must be a resort for germs - it is just absolutely revolting), shower tiles & grout can no longer be cleaned properly - gross, chipped tiles, chipped paint. This place is about 10+ years overdue for a refurbishment. This place is way overpriced. For this money you can do way better elsewhere. I will not be back.

I booked a superior room with a twin bed for 1 night. It was a good price at $116.64NZD It's obviously the hotels most basic room and quite run down. The windows were very dirty with mold. Under the beds weren't clean, I doubt they get checked very often as there's a huge build up of dust and rubbish, someone's water bottle was still under one of the beds. We decided to have dinner in the hotel restaurant. It was empty when we went in at 6pm on a Friday. Had to ask at reception if it was open because there was no staff in the restaurant. The meals were really good but the service lacked, wait staff were MIA, probably because we were the only people in the restaurant? When we finished our meal I had to go to reception again to get them to call the restaurant staff. Overall the price was okay but lacked basic cleanliness which was a poor look for the hotel

If youre looking for a bad hotel service then come and stay here. One of my mates decided to stay the night, we were happy to pay for additional guest fee however staff insisted that we book another room due to health and safety policy as max room capacity is 3 (staff cant show me this policy and redirected to the website - nowhere to be found) also website shows max capacity is 4. Staff insisted that we get this sorted, at 1120 PM (close to midnight, seriously????) We were all tired and heavily inconvenienced by this hence this review. Spoke to the staff and questioned the rationale however kept on repeating max guests is 3 (contradicting their very own website). Wont be staying here again or at any copthorne hotels, will also be spreading the word too.

Stayed one night there. Staff were fantastic. Rooms are looking a bit tired and could do with some TLC. Got some food at the bar downstairs. A little pricey for what we had. BLT and fries were good. Chicken tenders are processed tenders, and the cheese rolls were very dry with not much filling for $18. Beds comfortable, shower good. Aircon loud. The room was clean and tidy. Not sure if I would stay here again. There are only a couple of photos from the bathroom. Forgot to do the room.

I have used hotels belonging to this particular chain. Warmly welcomed and given our room early. The evening meal was good and pleasant staff. Downside was the breakfast was overcooked due to the heating lamps - in the time I was having breakfast, nobody from the kitchen came to check on the standard of the food.

We stay at the Copthorne for two nights before travelling to the South Island. The location of the hotel is very good and the overall service at the hotel is average. Unfortunately our toilet door was a sliding door which was virtually of its rail. It neither opened or closed adequately. When we drew this to the attention of the reception staff they showed little interest. By the following day after our complaint the door was just about repaired in a fashion and could easily be opened if you were a heavy weight wrestler. Cleaners, supervisors & management all allowed this poor level of service to happen and continue. Their bar downstairs was unwelcoming and did not serve after 9pm which beggars the question how does New Zealand’s hospitality industry make money compared to other areas of the world. Not the worse hotel, adequate but certainly not worthy of a recommendation. No doubt Copthorne management will thank me for the feed back, say how disappointed they are, play the review game and do nothing to raise there standards. Hope l am completely wrong.

Rooms are very dated but very clean. Bed was really comfortable and the 50insh has many sport and movies. Food at the restaurant is really good and the breakfast is awesome! Great value too. Decent views from the balcony, very nice at night.

We love staying here whenever we are up in Auckland. All the staff we encounter here are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. Love the location, Yes the rooms are getting tired, but generally they are clean, tidy and well presented. Great value for money.

Broken toilet seat, ceiling in the shower had holes in and the room and hallway smelt as it had been damp for quite awhile. It's budget price but still over priced. Told reception and all we got was oh we will get onto it. No, sorry about that it's good enough

Staff were so helpful, and helped to make our stay memorable for their customer service. Even after we left and we realized we left something in the room, they forwarded it straight away. Thank you.

A very tired run down old hotel in desperate need of money being spent on it.. The aircon/heating in the room is unable to be left on whilst trying to sleep as it sounds like a hairdryer running. Mould above the shower. Walls so thin that you can hear the conversation from your neighbouring rooms.

On arrival there wasn't any clearly marked spaces to park while you check in. The elevators are rundown as was the room we stayed in. The cupboard door was loose, the bathroom sink had a pile of what looked like silicone behind it, the tiles were cracked and paint was chipping off around the doorways. We ordered room service, food was delivered with a smile and tasted great. Bed was comfortable & clean. Overall an ok basic stay for those looking for a place in a handy location to CBD and Spark Arena.

Terrible from the moment we arrived to find they gave my granddaughter and I 1 king size bed instead of the twin that we ordered and then told that's ig we have no others to offer then the service in the dining room where you are left sitting while everyone else is served even people that come in 1 hour after you, a just warm meal with barely a dessert spoon of potato then back up to the so called superior room to find d the TV only has 3/4 of a picture the rest of the TV is black, then the bathroom with a rusted mirror, a shower door that doesn't close so water runs out everywhere and through the wall into the bedroom a dinner plate size of mold and water on the carpet from the bathroom, then the next night you have to ask after 20mins for your drinks. Try speaking to staff they look at you as if interested but take no action at all so you go to the travel agent whom you booked through dvdn they had to e mail 3xxx plus phone and yippee this hotel decides to pay me back some money a whole $ 49: 77c I CERTAINLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND STAYING AT THIS HOTEL in fact it would be a good case for Fair Go

I was nervous to stay here with my family after reading some of the reviews however we had a great stay! Yes, the rooms do need an upgrade. Aside from that, we booked 2 rooms & found them both clean, warm & safe. Only a short 5 minute walk to Spark Arena for Disney on Ice! Really friendly staff at reception & bar. Would stay again!

Got a parking notice on our car 2 inches from the parking permit on the windshield, door handle was loose coming off the door almost an inch fortunately i had my Leatherman and tighten the hex screws so the door reader wouldn't lock out my wife and child. Complained that people were smoking on the balcony even though it says you can't i was talk "well we can't control them" well you can you make the rules. The shower handle that switched from bath to shower was lifting the whole fixtures out of the tiled wall. They did offer us to switch to another room so Service gets a 4 but the rooms some love.

Poor, unsafe standard of hotel. Probable mould problem on sixth floor. Can smell the heavy, mould smell as soon as you get out of the lift and didn’t get any better in the room. Worried about all the families that were staying on that floor. A recent paint job covered the walls but no thought had gone into removing painters tape from the room so even after a month of having new paint (receptionist gave us the timeframe) cleaners seem to have constantly missed this. Changed rooms only to get a smaller room that had a leaking shower, that leaked all over the floor and also through the wall and into our belongings on the other side. On top of that, the toilet didn’t work well. No pre-ordering a park, first in first serve. Due to over selling parks ($30 a night) there was no temporary parks to unload car and children so was left with one parent taking kids and checking in while other finds a park and carry’s all the bags back to the hotel. On a good note, good location and staff at Jimmys were lovely as was the breakfast.

Getting pretty tired now and had to move rooms due to maintenance but always lovely staff and comfy bed for good nights sleep for picky regular traveller, food is normally pretty good but let down a bit this time, overall really would benefit from a complete refurb..

Definitely not a 4 star hotel, bathroom was horrible, shower was broken in my room, door on shower wouldn’t shut, unless your 5 foot tall you wouldn’t of fit in my friends shower in there room either, service and staff was great but the place wasn’t good at all. They charge more for parking than a Wilson car park too.

  • 3/5 Janine H J L. 7 months ago on Google
The room was a bit cold because heating only partially worked on thermostat override. Toilet air extraction not adequate and the toilet door didn't seal. Toilet seat needed replacing. Inadequate milk supply. Otherwise the staff were very helpful, and the decor, dining room meals and bedding were very good.

We have previously stayed at The Copthorne Hotel in Paihia and we were very pleased with our stay so we decided to try out The Copthorne in Auckland City. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The hotel was not sufficiently clean and could use a good dust. To be fair our room was good and the bed uncomfortable. However our first impression wasn't great. The food was average. We had to pay $30 a say for parking in the hotel's carpark 🤯 Unfortunately we will not be back.

  • 3/5 Russell B. 7 months ago on Google
Fair, but if you are over 5 ft then you won't enjoy the old-fashioned shower over the bath, and the leg lift required to get in, Overall fairly shabby, and they charge $30 for parking overnight!

Good basic hotel with everything necessary for a short stay in Auckland. Comparing to European or UAE hotels this one is a 3 star hotel. But I have had zero complaints during a 5 day stay. I was given an early check-in and later check-out upon my request, AC/heater worked perfectly well in the middle of August, good breakfasts. Welcoming and efficient staff. The only disadvantage: the thickness of the walls is a little poor - I could hear my neighboors, opening and closing doors.

Clean room and good location close to Spark Arena. Not a safe place to stay if you have food allergies and are wanting to be catered for as the staff appear to have little or no allergen related training.

The room was great, the staff were friendly, the restaurant was good, only fult was with breakfast the food was hot, when ordering dinner wasn't told there was black pepper on the chips & found out after I was given the meal, as I don't like pepper on chips

I've always stayed here when I visit Auckland and found it ok. But this time was a nightmare. Been charged 3 times and they keep saying I owe more. They wouldn't accept vouchers for their hotel, no smoking area, and 1 of the beds were broken. Never staying again

Bathroom needs some maintenance e.g. broken/loose tiles Service good except for manager who checked me in, didn't inform me of early closure of restaurant/room service that evening, asked me for photo ID (I wasn't an international traveller)

Rooms very tired. Woke up to the smell of cigarette smoke coming in from somewhere? Air conditioning didn't work. We were very warm during the night. Breakfast was awful as there was a large group in and so we had to sit at the bar and bar staff was quite rude. Food was either cold or finished. At 7am. Not a very nice stay. Not sure how this is a 4star. Vents full of fluff. Bathrooms falling apart. Shower was however amazing. Won't stay there again and won't recommend.

Very dated rooms, dodgy as balconies and person in the room next to me was violently vomiting the first morning we were there....waking up to that sound was horrible. Staff are Fantastic, very professional, friendly and they made the stay worth it. Sadly though I'm not sure if I'd stay there again.

Had a fantastic stay here. All staff are brilliant and friendly. Room was great, clean and tidy. Air conditioning worked well. Had a good sleep on the comfortable bed. Had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant meals were nice and enjoyed them, steak was cooked just right, good value for money. Will be first choice if back that way

Rooms are a little older, but clean and tidy. Old bathroom, shower head was very low and found we had to kneel down to wash my hair. Service was great. But it took near 20 minutes to get 4 coffees to takeaway as the poor girl was also trying to run the buffet and run front of house at the restaurant.

Great value for money. We had a lovely room with a beautiful view of the city and waterfront. It had a wee balcony with a door to open for fresh air. Super comfy bed and that water pressure wow! Yummy buffet brekie but do come earlier in the sitting as we came late the first day and the selection s were limited. Friendly helpful staff.

Great location. Friendly reception. Best showers i have had in any hotel. Rooms are functional with comfortable beds. Bar an restaurant shuts at 9pm even with 8 people still looking for meals and drinks, but understandable in the current climate.

Very friendly and helpful staff but the room, although tidy and clean was very small and the air conditioning didn't work.

Good location and friendly staff. However hotel rooms look and feel is not too great. Very limited parking available on site with difficulty to get in and out with car if you are checking in/out.

Where do I start?!? The room was so run down, chipped tiles in the bathroom, scuff marks all over the walls, chunks of plaster missing on the corners of walls, huge stain on the carpet, smeared windows, the telephone didn’t work in the room, the deadbolt lock didn’t work, the shower drain was so blocked I had to turn the shower off 4 times while in there so it didn’t overflow. I was so shocked at the poor quality of the room I even asked front desk if I had been put in the room I booked. Superior king?? I think not! It even took me talking to 3 different people to get connected to the wifi. Only positive is the location and the comfort of the bed.

  • 1/5 Nev M. 1 year ago on Google
No hot water while we stayed here. We had booked in for 2 nights but only stayed one because of this. Had called reception multiple times and not given any real explanation of how long it was gonna take to be fixed. They gave us free parking to compensate. Rooms quite dated and balcony not good if your scared of heights. Only positive was bed was very comfortable and we did get a refund for the second night. The duty manager was lovely but we did have to argue with the other staff before she took over. Will not be recommending The Copthorne Hotel Auckland to anyone in the future.

Rooms were adequate in size, comfortable beds, there was no air-conditioning in the room, mine was horribly warm. No phone to ring room service, had to use my cell phone and had to pay for parking onsite. However, service was good, restaurant food was ok and was delivered in a timely fashion. Would consider using again 🙂

The rooms need renovation and change... The blankets belong to the old days... There was no air flow in the room, the staff were helpful but they were bare handed... Don't recommend it.

  • 3/5 Andy L. 1 year ago on Google
Staff were very helpful and friendly but room wasn't very good, was very tired and dated, bathroom was in urgent need of restoration, tiles damaged, mould in grout, shower screen falling to bits. Soundproofing on double doors of Juliet balcony not up to city centre standards. Whole room required total restoration. Nice large comfortable double bed though so not all bad!

  • 2/5 Glenis T. 1 year ago on Google
Rooms need update, shower over flowed into main area had to use all towels to mop up rang front desk came up didn't seem to bothered about it. Restaurant was closed first night. The only thing I liked the bed was confortable. Only stayed as was close to the hospital for pre and post surgery

Good location. Pretty standard hotel, nothing special. Some rooms have good views. Food surprisingly good, especially the lamb.

It’s a scam! They double charged me. I paid when I checked in, and they charged me again through automatic electronic payment without my consent. I tried to ring them but no one picked up my call. I emailed them but no one replied my email to assist me. Their customers service was horrible and be aware that they would keep charging you and robbing your bank account without your consent.

Yesterday I was presented with the opportunity to by 6 tickets to Pink. Before accepting this offer I tried to secure accommodation. Copthorne Auckland City did not have bookings open online for March 2024 so I rang to book. I was told there were three rooms available for the 8th and 9th of March and was told the price per room was $468 for the two night per room. I accepted this offer and twice confirmed that this price was for the two nights and for three rooms. The girl on the reservation line took all my details including credit card and email and said it is all booked and she would forward me a confirmation. Having completed this I then accepted the tickets to Pink only to be contacted by the Copthorne soon after to say she had made a mistake and that the price of $468 was for one night only and that the total price for the two nights and three rooms was double what she had told me. We could not afford to take this booking and I said that she should own her mistake but was told that that was the price and she would cancel my booking. I am now left with 6 tickets to Pink and no accommodation. I find this very poor and at the end of the day I think the Copthorne should really have accepted the mistake and continued with my booking based on the original said price. This would have been my fifth time booking at this Hotel but it will now be the last. Extremely disappointed and now I am $1000 out of pocket and will need to try and on sell these tickets which will be hard to do with no accommodation available in Auckland. Totally gutted!!!!

Great location. 10min walk to Spark Arena. Service was great. Rooms are a little dated. Good luck getting in the shower if you're over 6ft.

I have really enjoyed my stay here. My room is really nice and clean comfortable bed. Food was really good nice friendly service. All in all my experience was gd. Our lady who brought our food up to our room she was really friendly and professional. I would recommend this place especially if you have functions to attend in the city super handy. Thank you

Rooms were not as big as shown in the pictures produced online, if you suffer from vertigo. Please do not get a room on the upper levels because the balcony will not help this. Rooms were clean. Not enough cutlery if you wished to dine in your room. Rooms seemed very tired looking, looks like they need a bit of a spruce up. Parking is absolutely obsurd! Having to pay for parking your vehicle at a Hotel your staying at is mind boggling to me. Will NOT be staying Ever again.
