We booked a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment for 3 nights. As soon as we arrived in the room we noticed a horrible stench which became worse when we turned on the heat pump. The furniture looked as though it had never been cleaned and there was rubbish between the cushions. The kitchen area had visible damage and the shower had mould along the entire seal of the door. The lock on the balcony sliding door in one of the bedrooms was faulty and wouldn’t unlock. This, paired with the stench coming from the heat pump meant there was no fresh airflow in the already stuffy and smelly room. We asked the reception staff if maintenance could come and take a look and was told they could not come until 3 days later (which was when we were due to check out). A staff member told us the lock was jammed due to the roadworks currently happening in front of the building, causing the building to move. We then asked if we could change rooms which the staff allowed. This secondary room was a slight improvement but yet again, the furniture was not any cleaner. The washing machine/dryer smelt foul and we found a sock in it. The staff were kind however, due to the uncleanliness and horrible condition of the rooms - I would NOT stay here again.

We stayed for two nights in a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment. The photos on the website are misleading. Furniture and carpet was dirty, kitchen damaged, dryer didn’t work, toilet cistern broken, staff seemed disinterested and ignored you as you left or entered the building, road works right outside building and the entry to the building smells of urine. Not much positive to say, very disappointing.

Good central location so it's an easy walk to the Viaduct, Queen St etc. Comfortable and clean accommodation, pleasant staff. My only gripe was that we asked for our two bed apartment to be serviced after the first of a two nights' stay and they only made up one room! We arrived back from the Bledisloe Cup too late to report this to the staff, so we just got on with it. Never mind.

Decent location but was loud at night with surrounding apartments and other rooms, standard for a downtown hotel. Room was alright but the bed and couch were not very comfortable. Staff gave us incorrect pricing for cabs to the airport which ended up causing us grief.

Wasn’t really impressed with the property, door lock was broken, Dilapidated bed and side lamps, dining and coffee table needs adjustment, seems like windows are not cleaned from ages. Only good thing it is right in the heart of Auckland and staff was listening to you. But surely this is not what i paid for.

Kind of a mess right now with road construction in front of the hotel. Convenient location for sights and shopping downtown. Not a charming lobby, and just 4-5 suites per floor with concrete hallway walls that felt stark. The suite was more than ample - full kitchen, living room, washing machine in the en suite bathroom - with a reasonable breakfast spot on the corner next door.

Visited in Dec 2022 and there were roadworks happening right in front of the hotel. Obviously not the hotel's mistake, but for some reason the crowd around the place was very shady and scary. We parked our car in a nearby Wilson's Parking lot and walked to Barclay. In a stretch of 100m we saw a whole bunch of shady people and junkies. We were as scared of being jumped upon, as we were of someone breaking into our car. The check-in and check-out process was easy. The rooms were pretty good. We had booked a service apartment. Two rooms with attached bathrooms for both. The room had basic amenities - kettle, fridge, tea, coffee, sugar, ironing board, etc. Parking is available for $35 per day. But we parked independently at the parking lot nearby which cost us $15 for overnight parking.

My stay here was absolutely horrible!!! The staff is useless. My room had cockroaches. And when I requested to move they wouldn’t do it unless we showed prof. So I took videos and photos and it took them hours to move us. No room service was done and I stayed there for 2 weeks!! Not once was it offered. I had to get everything my self. Even when I called an requested for someone. No one came. Absolutely appalling

Water damage and mould above shower in ensuite. No ac remote I bedroom. Bed comfy and ok. Taxi arranged by hotel to train station very poor. On time but his eftpos machine was not charged and his English very poor

Our booked room was oversold so we were forcefully downgraded. They did not even mention this at check in and only admitted after I enquired/complained about the room we were given. Rooms are poorly maintained with plenty of broken amenities (including the security latch on the front door). The room is poorly ventilated with a horrible smell that did not go away. Overall a very unpleasant stay, and would not recommend.

Really like the suites. Good space. Well laid out. Some great views on upper floors. Like having ranchslider doors in both lounge & bedroom. Consistent standard.

The employees are super welcoming and helpful, the only thing I think they could do better is to not change the towels everyday, it is not very environmentally friendly. Our room had a nice kitchen and living room :)

Great location, spacious room, apartment-like setting in the heart of Auckland. I appreciated the washer/dryer, though it was complicated to use and we needed help. The staff came right up to assist! I was disappointed to see single-use toiletries instead of dispensers considering how eco-conscious New Zealand is. The room is stocked with everything you might need. It was very comfortable. Very centrally located. An easy walk to the harbor and restaurants.

We rented a 2bd deluxe apartment for my wife and I & 2 teenage children. The apartment was roomy, very clean and comfortable and perfect for our short stay in the city. Receptionist friendly and efficient. There is no onsite parking, but Barclay has an arrangement with Wilson's Parking immediately next door for a $40/day charge or for your parking receipt to be validated if parking is booked with room rate. Looks like the new subway train will have a metro entrance just outside the main door of the apartment. All in all, it was a great hotel for a short stay whilst downtown Auckland and in a very handy location.

We planned to stay for a week and then travel to the South Island and then return to the hotel. I had already paid for the room I would stay in when I returned. When we first checked in, they said they could keep two pieces of luggage for us while we were traveling. So we decided to stay at this hotel and paid. However, just one day before leaving for the trip, we told the staff member to leave our luggage now as we were leaving tomorrow, and the other staff member said that we could not leave our luggage with us. So we said we had to leave tomorrow and when we already checked in the staff said it was possible so we stayed here. Nevertheless, the new employee said he could not store my luggage. When I asked the manager to confirm, she very unkindly told me she couldn't do that and went into the office and left. We really needed help but the staff left without helping us and was very upset. And if you want to welcome international people to this hotel in the future, you must be able to help or inform guests of solutions when problems arise or when guests experience problems. Just ignoring him and going back into the office without any help was really rude and we were very disappointed.

Smells absolutely disgusting due to cleaning agents and air fresheners. Gross. Had to leave my window open for a whole day to make the air tolerable. Asked for summer bedding at the front desk, but the maid came and didn't understand. The bedding was very hot and I wasted a lot of electricity cooling the room so I wasn't boiling. My room was very bright at night.

Positive : The location was great, it was in the center of the city. Near many store. The room nice, clean and spacious Negative : 1. When we first checked in (we booked 2 rooms), They gave us the room which is already occupied by other guest. 2. The fire alarm was set off in the middle of the night. And all of us need to go outside the building. When we needed to get back up to our room, we needed to wait quite long because the lift is only 2. 3. Our table lamp in the room, exploded when plug in. And the electricity died in our room so they needed to move us to different room. We booked 1 room for 3 people and the new room they gave us only fit 2 people. 4. At 5 am, the receptionist knocked our door, waking all of us up. And when we answer our door, the receptionist is with random guy (probably drunk) and he asked us if we knew the guy. When we tell him that we didn't knew him the receptionist only said "OK" and left. This was probably my worst experience in an hotel and we only stayed there for one night.

Great amenities in the apartment. We booked the Deluxe 2 Bedroom suite for 4 of us. 2 bedrooms (queen bed), 2 bathrooms, living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen (there's dishwasher, fridge, microwave etc). Walking distance to most eating places and Sky tower.

The reception was small and smelt weird. The picture looked better than the actual room. Bathroom showers were small. Mid hotel. 3 stars!

Amazing customer service from the front desk. Incredibly helpful with sorting our room requests. Stunning up close views of sky tower and sweep views of city and harbor bridge. Full kitchen and laundry. Great for families. So convenient, easy walk to viaduct, sky city. Thank you very much

Overall quite pleasant stay . But car park was not provided which make transfering luggages quite difficult. Undergoing major construction 🏗️ so a little loud and noisy . Not recommended if you have small babies

Great value. We had a 2 room apartment and they both have their own bathrooms. Well equipped kitchen. Access is hampered at the moment due to the works in Albert St, but don't let that put you off. A Hollywood cafe is next door and a superette is tight around the corner. Highly recommend.

It’s great value, nothing flash and expect some wear and tear but for the price it’s good. Central city location, which means it’s noisy at night with people on the streets. But nothing you would not expect with staying in a big city.

Our cards for our room didn't work. We were on level 18 so had to go all the way back down to change. Went back down, got them changed and the new set of cards didn't work again!! Tried calling the desk but they didn't answer so had to go all the way back down again to change the cards. When we finally got into the room there was water all over the floor. The jug was a huge hazard as it had a leak in it and water leaked all over the counter. No batteries In the remotes. Overall was disappointed.

Great location, right in the heart of the city. Love the great view in 19th floor. Nice size room with living area and small kitchen. Only down size was the uphill walk and road work in area the lower floor might have a problem. Other thing is the couch in the room was a bit mouldy didn’t look so hygienic.

Upon check in I was told that I had only booked one room. This was after showing my booking confirmation and the amount I had paid. The person at reception came across as quite condescending and continued to tell me I had only booked one room. After eventually getting keys for the 3 rooms, the key cards didn’t work for one of them. We went down to reception then back up to the room and the cards still didn’t work. This happened multiple times during our 2 night stay. When we got to one of our rooms later in the evening, there was already a guest sitting in the lounge. This made for a very awkward encounter and yet another trip to reception at 10:30pm. I is also worth noting that one of the guests’ key cards worked on all rooms within our party. This is worrying as I assume the card would have worked on all of the apartment doors. I feel like our experience would have been more positive if it wasn’t made out like all the above was our fault. The central location was a positive.

Location Great and friendly service but the rooms had very poor hygiene. A last customers bag was still in the draws and they dont restock toilet paper and other things properly on day 2. FYI no tea towel or cooking pans provided. But best massage at the Spa!

We wanted a nice place to stay as we had been super busy selling a house and buying a new one, it had been a very stressful time. We looked at the website photos and found what we thought would be a lovely place to stay. WRONG. Our room was horrid! The couch had awful stains on it,the bathroom door didn't lock, the bedroom door didn't close, the wardrobe door hinges were broken, the bedroom mirror had fallen off the wall and was leaning against ot, the bathroom basin didnt have a plug and the handy man came to check out the broken washing machine and it smelt like he hadn't showered for a week. The view was of another building! Give this place a miss!

If I could, I wouldn’t even give 1 star. Terrible experience so far. We arrived there middle of the night, and we had to pay $40 per night for the parking. We had to walk 10 mins with our luggage to reach to the hotel at the middle of the night. The staffs are not interested on listening to the feedback or give you any sort of reassurance at all. The night staff- Glen spoke to us nicely enough even though he wasn’t interested on listening to our problem- he referred our concerns to reservation manager- Krishnel who we spoke to the next day just to be heavily disappointed. All we wanted was someone who could listen to us and take our feedback. But he made sure to make us feel like we were just frustrated so that we could get some discount. Honestly we didn’t care enough for any freaking discount but we wanted some sort of reassurance or someone who could listen to us. We were far away from our family and we had to inform them that we’ve reached NZ but they didn’t provide us any wifi or we couldn’t even connect to the reception to ask for wifi. So we had to turn our roaming data on and spent fortune again. I’m normally not a type of person who would say or write bad things about others. But I honestly didn’t feel nice staying at that hotel and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The costumer service is terrible, the hotel is terrible and the parking sucks literally.

After multiple tries, beware and don't hope to get any compassion/understanding from this place. Relative is hospitalized for unknown duration but hotel will not budge or even try to assist with my booking which is more than 6months away. Have even suggested to provide a letter from the doctor/hospital as evidence, but to noavail. Be careful when you book your room. Multiple international calls back and forth including assistance from the booking agents, but they will not assist at all. Edit to Owner reply: Thanks for your reply BUT for your information I called back to change the dates after being informed by the third party. However, your team said I was not allowed to and we were back to where we started from. I'm sure your phones have recordings, please confirm with them.

I've sold a number of the Barclay suites over the years. The location is fantastic, the staff are so helpful, the rooms are clean & tidy. If you want to stay at the Barclay Suites, I highly recommend it.

The location is perfect for city activities. Places of interest, restaurant, shopping is just few minutes away. The staff at reception and was helpful and welcoming. The cleaning staff manager Rahul Deshmukh was also very helpful in providing local knowledge about places to visit and best restaurants around . Kitchen was well equipped and bedrooms were cozy. On downside- The in-apartment facilities were not very charming including some carpet damages, blocked bathroom sink and one of the bathroom light was not working, bedroom alarm clock was broken. In all bit of facility maintenance was missing. However all this did not bother our fun holiday here. A bigger shower head would be a recommendation.

The place didn’t really feel clean … reception was pretty grubby. Our room was very average - especially for the price we paid. I have paid a lot less and stayed at much nicer hotels in the Auckland CBD. Didn’t feel this was value for the money. The bathroom we had had mould all found the ceiling. The tap in the kitchen continuously dripped which could be heard from the bedroom. One of the beds had minimal duvet for this time of the year. The lifts were so terribly slow. All in all pretty disappointed with this accommodation. On a high point - the staff were friendly and helpful.

Loads of construction outside, would not have booked if we knew. Especially for the price for one night. Would help of it gets mentioned on the website before booking. Couldn’t use car park because of construction. Windows filthy. Terrible smell once entering the hallway. Rooms are definitely not a 4 start rating. Very disappointed and a $320 a night waste!

Good location in the city - walking distance to queen st and the viaduct. Staff lovely and rooms clean. They get serviced daily too which is nice. Balcony is a little freaky to stand on as they are so skinny - but other wise its my 3rd time here (2 times weve been in room 1403) and we will most likely be back again on our nxt auckland vist🙌

This hotel is clean and comfortable. And it is in a perfect location for walking around and sightseeing. You can walk anywhere:) Also, the housekeeping team always come to our room to keep cleaning. Thanks to their hard work we felt so comfortable during we’ve stayed here. (Bhavani & Indra, they were so kind and professional!)

Personally I wouldn't spend my money here again, unpleasant staff are RUDE! The space/rooms are okay bathrooms are very small. Good if you need a place to store your stuff then leave. !Cockroaches! broken dishwasher and washing machine also its a 2 in 1 so makes ur clothes smell!

The room is well maintained. Very spacious It is great to be able do your washing in the unit. Don’t need a car to go around in town. The cleaners did a great job keeping the room clean (Bhavani)

Words fail me - let me explain... 1. Booked a double room and got twin beds. 2. The room had such an overpowering smell of mould (in the carpet) that I required Ventolin for a bronchial attack. Nobody on reception to tell. Had to sleep with doors and windows open. Pigeons came in. 3. Lost an earring down the plughole of the vanity - no grate, no plug 4. The toilet wouldn't flush properly 5. The graffiti on the door closer in the lounge room is disturbing This place has a fabulously central location. It's the only positive I can find

  • 3/5 Adam B. 2 years ago on Google
Room was nice enough. Elevator took 20 minutes sometimes to get to us. People living in the building not the most comfortable to be around. House arrests, fights, parole officers, etc. Only giving 3 stars because the room itself was ok at a decent price. Won't return.

  • 5/5 Joanna M. 1 year ago on Google
Great spot right in the center if town, literally a 2 minute walk from sky city bus to get back to the airport. Initially had an issue with the first room but the staff were really helpful and swapped our rooms. Couldn't fault staff on site Great views of the city and Harbour, rooms clean and tidy. Good for what pay for. Real winner is location, right in the middle of town with walking distance to most places. Great little coffee shop next door for when want coffee in mornings.

Location was a little tricky with all the roadworks, But so very central to everything and stunning views of the skycity tower. Room was perfect. 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom. Everything we could of asked for.

Lady from reception was rude on phone at one stage , other than that was really fast room service , cleaned our room everyday we stayed , the guys at reception were very polite and helped us understand any questions we had , we had no issues staying here

The views of Auckland City, Sky Tower and Harbour were insanely beautiful. We stayed on the 23rd floor in the tower part of the Barclay Suites. The location was perfect and right in the CBD. The parking for our three night stay was good value and close to the Suites. The rooms were a little disappointing. The carpets were ripped, walls banged up and kitchen a little worn out. The standard of cleanliness was average. It was great having a washer/dryer in the room, but that's pretty much it for the positives. The room my parents were in had a different combination of utensils compared to ours. Luckily for me, they had a bottle opener as we didn't. The breakfast options were very foreign for the western traveler. Cucumber, lettuce and Soy Sauce with Eggs Benedict anyone? The desk service was pretty average. Our receptionist demanded an actual credit card to put a hold on even though we'd paid in advance. Our Visa Debit card (which I've used everywhere in the world for this purpose) wasn't good enough here. This was annoying as the next day we had to wait in the lobby (as housekeeping were still in our room at 430pm) overhearing every other guest checking in say they didn't have a credit card, have their request to pay the hold via debit card accepted. It was a different staff member on the desk but still annoying as it appeared we were the only guests that had to pay a $300 cash deposit rather than the normal $1 hold on our card. So our stay was okay. It was cool seeing the Sky Tower from our bed. Great location. Okay but not anywhere near a 5 star recommendation.

Beds aren’t really comfy, shower is always changing temperature between hot & cold, staff are ok, didn’t have any issues with them, disappointed in the price of the hotel room, wasn’t worth what we paid. This hotel needs a re-vamp & some loving put into it. Cheers

Wasn’t very impressed. Added an extra person into our hotel ( paid for ) was told there was a sofa bed but half the bed was missing so one had a very uncomfortable sleep. Breakfast arrived the next morning and was disgusting not one person finished their meal, had things on the menu that it didn’t even come with for example toast wasn’t toasted it was still bread no butter, said it had kumara chips with it had CORN chips on top. Gross tasting not impressed.

Overall the apartment was okay. Bathroom was dirty, had molds in the shower. We booked the room for 3 nights and only the first day they serviced part of the room after we asked them because the blinds went off the rail and wouldnt go up. The last 2 days they didn't do any housekeeping, no coffee and milk refill. 1 x 150ml milk for 3 night, how cheap (after paying them $700+). Bed didn't get tidied. Of course didn't change bedding. Only good for the location and view.

  • 4/5 Kai Xiang L. 1 year ago on Google
The service apartment is great, just that the spare beds are a little too under budget kind, as it was too soft that we are literally sleeping on springs. But nevertheless the service is good, as the manger came and try to slove the issues, by laying a thicker flees blanket to make the bed more enjoyable to sleep on. The location its directly in the heart of CBD and all shopping areas which is at queen's Street. And its super near to britomart which is the wharf and also ferry terminal. Super convenient.

  • 1/5 Starky 7. 1 year ago on Google
Ensuite door needed adjusting and wouldn’t lock without force. Main bathroom had open drain smell that permeated into the adjacent bedroom spoke twice to reception but it seemed to fall on deaf ears as no one came to investigate or contacted us about this. While the bed was fine the issues above resulted in a below standard experience. Great central location but will not be staying here again.
