I've heard about this place for years & said if we ever made it back to Austin, we need to go. I'm so glad we did! Definitely call ahead! Out of courtesy to Vince, the homeowner /artist who is opening up him back yard for strangers to walk through. There is no cost to get in, but donations are appreciated. We gave $5 per person in our group & if I had more cash, I would have given more. This is a crazy masterpiece he has created. Multiple levels of so much "junk" to see! It was extremely hot when we went (around 108) so we stayed about 40 minutes. If it was cooler, I could have spent hours just taking in all the things. This is a quirky must see!

We called the owner, Vince, two hours before we arrived to see if we could see the attraction. Vince said he will be there for us to see it and told us a place to park. He was very nice and the Cathedral of Junk was really neat. You could spend so much time just looking at different parts of it and identifying things. He even has the main room of the structure color coordinated, so it is more appealing. The Cathedral has three different levels and some stairs made of tires.

This place is so cool! This is really a work of art in the way that he has placed every single detail in such a manner that it fits! And how he has built a cathedral to walk through and around is amazing! All the small trinkets and small treasures hidden within this masterpiece is fun to look through and find. Vince was super cool in letting us in even though we didn't call ahead of time BUT I would recommend calling ahead of time and reserving a time to go visit. It is by donation so it is well worth a little bit of time to stop by and see this pretty cool spot. Vince is super friendly and welcoming! Have fun!

Really eccentric art sculpture made in Vince's yard. It's neat to climb the cathedral and take pictures of all the cool finds! The slide and throne are super fun for photos. You can visit by appointment only, and Vince asks for a donation.

A unique and fun backyard experience in an otherwise typical suburban neighborhood. Called 30 minutes ahead on a weekday afternoon in May, and the artist/owner/resident told us to come and gave us parking instructions. I’ve been to the Heidelberg Project in Detroit & Randyland in Pittsburgh, and Cathedral of Junk was unique in that it’s a true solid structure, with winding corridors and a climbable β€œdome.” Lots of fun details to discover and very kid-friendly as well. We spent a couple hours just exploring and watching my daughter play with the cars and go down the slide. She didn’t want to leave. Recommend bringing cash for a donation and wearing mosquito repellent.

Make sure to call in advance so the owner knows you're coming! I absolutely loved the Cathedral of Junk. There is so much thought and care that went into make the piece and you can tell that the owner really cares about the art and making it a nice experience to view. It is free but donations are welcomed.

You need an appointment. Give this nice guy a call for one. This was a nice stop on our way out of town. This guy built crazy sculptures out of stuff we throw away. I’d recommend a stop! Have some cash in hand for a donation.

The most interesting place we visited today. The owner was super nice and gave us a little background of his creation. We took our time to check the whole backyard because we love junk that looks like art. It also took us back to our younger years. I saw my old bike and a few toy's, lol If you visit, Please help with a donation.

I visited this place recently for the first time. I was looking forward to seeing the place inside but it was closed. Apparently, and according to a sign in the front, visits are by appointment only. It is located in a private house in a quiet neighborhood. I called the number on the sign, and whoever responded said they didn't know about this place. This is sad as we really wanted to experience this place. Will try again in the near future.

Nestled in a quiet neighborhood, we found this place while passing through Austin and LOVED it. Very interesting and intriguing exhibit. The artist was there, so we spent some time hearing his story first-hand. Highly recommended for a quick stop to appreciate the dedication the artist has taken to this project. Donations accepted, but it's free to check out.

Well, I didn't actually get to SEE this place, but that's because I did not look at the reviews. Online, when you look up "Things to do in Austin", the Cathedral of Junk comes up on some of the websites. So now you're thinking "Cool, this place looks rad. Let's go!" And what those websites don't tell you is that this is actually located IN SOMEONES BACKYARD. We all assumed it was in a public area because none of the photos used show signs of anyones house. You can imagine our surprise when we drive to the address and it's in some neighborhood and we are now parked creepily in front of some random person's house trying to see what's going on. We do more digging online, and find the owner's phone number. We call him and it goes to voicemail, but this poor man has absolutely been bothered by many people like us as his voicemail said something along the lines of "Hey, so you're probably in front of my house thinking what's going on, but you need to make an appointment to come see. I don't know what the websites are saying online but it's not true." And it was absolutely hilarious because it was the exact situation we were in. We admired the front of his house and left. Make sure you call him and make an appointment! Don't be like us. Dude probably gets bothered on a daily basis trying to explain this to people. Have fun and enjoy the art!

Stunning, beautiful, awe-inspiring! Incredible gem with an incredible story. The owner was very friendly and informative. We walked through the place maybe 5-6 times and everytime we were able to appreciate a new piece that we missed previously.

Hello Everyone! I hope all well & as cool as you can be....this heat is Not Cool!!! πŸ˜³πŸ˜†πŸ˜† So this was an unexpected, yet very cool & interesting place. This man is not only very nice...he has been working on this for a few decades. I have never seen anything like it in my lifetime: it is just junk that is built into this huge, mind blowing walk through his mind & TIME! , I am going back because; it was just so hot the afternoon we went me & my friend just had to cut the visit short. Imagine a 3 story, walk through time & junk. It is all safe & up to city code but, it is just cool!

Started in the late 1980’s, Vince started this as a little sculpture and over the years it has turned into this! Tons and tons of hand made cement blocks full of junk, bicycle parts, furniture, electronics and anything else you might find in a trash pile. It’s like a walk down memory lane when you see a toy like the terminator 2 action figure with the removable arm, or old speak n spell that you totally forgot you played with as a kid. Worth it, dog and kid friendly. Call ahead of time to make sure he’s there!

We called ahead of time and found out he was not giving tours the rest of that day. You really can't see much from the street, so you should definitely call ahead to make sure he is there to give you a tour. I'll definitely swing by again the next time I'm in town.

Fun corky place to visit. I was unsure what to expect going in. The artist sits at the door explaining the layout of the structure and letting you in. He does not charge and says there is a donation box at the exit if you enjoy it, no pressure at all.

Absolute garbage. Definitely check it out. The Cathedral of Junk is located in the owner's backyard, so make sure to call ahead to make sure it's open. There are three tiers to explore, and it's structured like a winding maze. There are new things around every turn, and it captivates the imagination. It's a combination of post-apocalyptic art, metalwork, and construction that's truly impressive.

This place is amazing. Having to see such creations with the smallest of things we call junk is just amazing. The place itself is free to visit but donations is what helps. The way each corner is color coordinated makes it more fun to explore and click pictures.
