We did the gaol tour today, was good, but it would have been so much better if other parts of the gaol were included. We saw two cell blocks and the recreational yard. I would have loved the tour to include the kitchens, governors office, workshops, and maybe the infirmary. Not sure it was worth the $60 for the two of us.

We enjoy our short holiday in Brisbane, we stayed at Best western hotel which is only a walking distance to the Botanic garden and the Brisbane River, we rent a scooter which is fantastic, Brisbane botanic garden was the must to visit while in Brisbane, gorgeous plants and amazing landscaping.

Visited boggo road gaol today for the history tour which was very informative. The tour guide provided a huge amount of information and was able to any questions. Parking is very easy and the gaol is all accessible by wheelchair except for the upstairs area.

Firstly, Heather, our tour guide were great at handling COVID19. She was ready to check-in everyone as we arrive. Check-in was really smooth and easy. It a great place to visit and learn about the history behind the gaol. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The stories from our guide and graffiti on the walls bring us into the stories. We took our kids there to let them know how old the facilities were during the old days. Room for improvement: It will be better to include more areas like their kitchen, workshops, laundry, gaol guillotine and hanging area. This will take you to 5 stars ratings.

Did the ghost tour last night with Shane. Twas a really good night from a history perspective. But from a ghost perspective, it lacked. Would recommend this to people interested in history more so than interest the supernatural.

I really enjoyed the tour of the Boggo Road Goal. The owner Mr Sims is a thrilling presenter with plenty of atmosphere. The content is highly engaging and very interesting. The location is amazing and rich in layers of history. A point I found really fascinating was the amount graffiti linked to the Eddie Koiki Mabo Land Rights case, which although was a relatively unpopular case outside the goal, was evidently largely supported within it. Would certainly recommend!

It is going thru renovations at the moment, but the tour team are still committed to providing the best tour possible and sharing as much of their knowledge of the history as possible. Educational And Fun.

Biggest cash grab I've ever seen. Way too expensive for what it is. Not to mention I was highly disappointed to find out they only run ONE tour a day after driving all the way into Brisbane despite their website and social media saying they are open till 4pm. The entire outside of the gaol was closed off due to development which is fair enough but you can't expect people to pay $40 per person to barely even see the gaol. Highly disappointed, would certainly not recommend.

Very educational and fun history tour learnt a lot about what is was like being in jail back in the 1880s it was very different to what I was expecting very good tour guide and got to veiw alot of cells and yards and learnt just how every day being in jail would of been like for them. Really enjoyed the experience can't wait to do more tours

The tour was ok but not worth the money. The tour guy just kept waffling on an we stood around in one spot for at least 20mins listening to the stories. Felt very rushed when it came to being able to explore and to take photos. Especially when it came to seeing the jail cells I only was able to take 2 photos before being told it was time to move on :( Would not recommend P.S. Did not encounter any paranormal experiences which was very disappointing

Very well presented and well lit in the evening. Mosquito's can have a bit of a go at you at dusk, but take some snacks for the possums to eat, and you will have you own feeding frenzy the kids will enjoy. Never gets old. Market on Sunday small but cute enough!

The Brisbane city botanic gardens is the perfect place to hang out if you’re after a bit of piece and quiet from the busy city life. The gardens are always well maintained and in immaculate condition.

Booked and went on the ghost tour last night it was an amazing journey back in time. Great history, story telling and the atmosphere of the gaol really adds to it. Only been once before during the day for a school history excursion and both times I've had some kind of experience. If your a local or a tourist you'll really enjoy this gaol. Highly recommended A+++

Awesome tour. It makes you curious to do the night ghost tour. Jack was great, bought some books from there as well and have been reading up the history which is interesting. Would recommend this trip, something different yet good to know of.

The history tour was educational, informative and interesting. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and professional. Love the stories about the famous escapologist and the black cat. Recommended to anyone for this 90 minutes tour, tourists or local residents, to learn a slice of Brisbane jail history. You should also go to St Helena Island if you are particularly interested in jails.

Tour guide was very good and friendly. The goal itself is an interesting & terrible place at the same time. Definitely worth a visit especially for those Brisbane residents who remember it. Good value for the cost.

Very interesting historical site. The ghost tour was cool but went on too long I think. I would suggest cutting it back to 1.5 hours at the most as it keeps up the pace and audience interest. 2 hours is a long time to spend on your feet. Saw cell blocks D & E, heard a couple of stories but no ghosts.

Fabulous tour, Kim was a wealth of information. Kim did well trying to speak while others chatted and failed to control their kids. Would strongly recommend a hat as there is no shade in the waiting area. Well done team. A great day out.😁

An absolutely fantastic way to spend a couple of hours! It was really interesting and our guide Kim was wonderful! She had a wealth of knowledge, was patient and gave everyone a lot of time to really explore and ask lots of questions! Some of Brisbane's darker history can be found here. Impressive buildings and a feeling of what it may have been like to be an inmate is almost tangible. Many different tours are offered and well worth the price.

Didn't love it. Did the night tour. Tegan was really nice and great to chat to should you have any questions, but she worked a little to hard on remembering the script so it made it really painful to listen to. She had a really slow voice and her pauses were unatural, long and frankly...unsual? While its a cool historical site, it was pretty boring overal. No fault of tegans the material was just lame. Not worth the price. If they maybe halfed the price id say it was worth it. Pretty dissapointing.

There's something about an old-style botanic gardens. Every major city has such a place and Brisbane's is a beauiful example of the simplicity of a place that offers so much for locals and visitors alike. Set set up to a major bend in the Brisbane River, Brisbane City Botantic Gardens is the place to stroll and enjoy the greenery and open space of the city. Lawns, gardens, walkways and big trees provide the perfect place to relax and slow down. Simply explore and enjoy the peace and freedom it offers. Enter from Alice Street, or George Street.

Really beautiful botanical gardens. I got to see a few little creatures along the way and some were a little too quick to take a photo. Great place to get away from the city without leaving the city. Highly recommended.

Parking is really hard to find. However, our forefathers and whatever the feminine equivalent, have left us with some plant treasures and subsequent govt officials have not destroyed them all. It is a treasure and long may it remain so. Bunya pines and other gorgeous specimens. Sorry but beats the other Botanic garden in Bris. hands down. Maybe one day it will compete but now the city gardens are the best. Go and enjoy the peace and the beauty.

Beautiful mid city botanical gardens that all Brisbane dwellers can be proud of. It is a highlight of my stays to walk through the gardens from the river to Queen St. The odd wildlife encounter is a bonus!

  • 4/5 Phil D. 3 years ago on Google
Escape the city into the park and enjoy the winding paths and cool shady spaces to relax and let the world go by. Usually a cool breeze to be found by the river.

  • 5/5 Peter B. 3 years ago on Google
Great city gardens. Take note of the flood markers and see how much damage was done to these gardens and the city during the Brisbane river floods. Markets every Sunday in the centre entrance area of the garden. Plenty of walking paths, running paths and designated riding paths. You can cut through the gardens to walk from Eagle Street to South Bank. Great walk.

Beautiful park... the gardens are so beautiful. This is a great park for coming with family or friends. There is a playground that is awesome. It has different sections for different ages. There are sliders and stuff for climbing. There is plenty of shade with the trees. There are Toilets and parking. Nice for picnics. You can take a nice walk. Or ride your bicycle with your friends or kids.

Stunning nature escape, especially for when you live in or close to the city. It brings a wonderful balance to the area. You can often see couples there for wedding photos, as well as see waterdragons near the ponds around 4pm, and possoms after dark. There's markets almost every Sunday till noon, and every now and then there's a band playing or some other small event. Very niche, but just in case it's useful; i used to have troubles with Pokémon Go there during a community day

I had the privilege of attending a historical guided tour at the Boggo Road Gaol on a rainy day in January. I cannot praise the tour guide Caitlin enough. She was impressive. She shared her considerable knowledge with ease, grace and joy. Undoubtedly, the jail does need some renovations (which I believe are coming in a couple of months) but its condition did help to transport the visitors back to darker but fascinating times in the story of the jail. Caitlin, engaged with all the visitors expertly to ensure they felt their voice was heard and their questions valued. I can't wait to attend other tours at the jail and across Brisbane. Thank you Caitlin for sharing insightful and entertaining stories from the past and inspiring us with your passion for the history of the region. I can’t recommend this tour and the ‘Historic Australia’ organisation more vigorously.

I have been in this jail for two years now, and I must say it’s the best jail I’ve ever been to. The staff are courteous and professional, the food is nutritious and tasty, and the facilities are clean and modern. The cells are spacious and comfortable, with a TV, a fridge, and a private bathroom. The inmates are friendly and respectful, and there is a lot of camaraderie and support among us. The jail offers a variety of programs and activities to keep us busy and productive, such as education, vocational training, sports, arts, and therapy. The jail also has a library, a gym, a chapel, and a garden. The security is tight but fair, and the rules are clear and reasonable. I feel safe and cared for in this jail, and I have learned a lot from my experience here. I would highly recommend this jail to anyone who is looking for a place to serve their time with dignity and respect. It’s like a home away from home!
