Holy Rosary Church is one of the oldest Christian installations of Dhaka, was established by Portuguese missionaries before the advent of British colonial rulers in India. There is a big open space in front of the church. If someone watches it from the opposite of the ground, it seems like a painted picture. While entering into the compound, firstly visitors will notice the Amal Ganguly memorial hall. There is a graveyard at the inner side. A big pond is also located in the east. A lot of blooming roses welcome the religious people from the garden also a statue of the crucified Jesus Christ.

In 1628, they established a church, called the ‘Church of the Assumption’, in Narinda, southern part of the Dhaka city. The second church of Dhaka was built in 1677 at Tejgaon. The inscription on the pinnacle of the Church shows a date in Arabic numerals 1677, built by the Augustinian Fathers but many believe it was built in the 16th century. The Holy Rosary Church premises houses one of the two Catholic cemeteries in Dhaka. Today, the original Holy Rosary Church is set behind the large modern frontage and contains the remaining well preserved and cared for Armenian tombstones.

Although there are so many restrictions for non christians, I love this place. Here the church and the cemetery are attached together. Christian community are broad minded like jesus. Just without a very few exceptions. I tried to buy a cross, but someone did not sell it to me, because I am muslim. And asked me to get out of the place. I felt bad. But the followers of jesus should not be racist like that man. I love jesus.

Here, The Pope meet with priests, religious and consecrated men and women, seminarians and novices in the church. And before leaving, Holy Father Francis visited the parish cemetery, blessed the cemetery and prayed briefly for those who buried here.

I went to this church a few days ago but the guard didn’t let me in because I am not a Christian. When I asked him to talk to higher authority he consistently denied my way in, even after I told him that I am studying the bible. It's a shame that the church keeps such guards.

Holly Rosary church has been designated as the “place for prayer” in the large area. A team of people have put in nice furniture, lovely artwork, etc. But…it isn’t used except on Sunday before church or special and infrequent times of prayer. This church is often confiscated for meetings other than prayer because it is a nice, quiet setting.

This is one of the largest Catholic churches in SouthEast Asia. Prayers are held every day early in the morning. Only on Saturdays and Sundays Prayers are held both in the morning as well as in the evening. On most Friday's Wedding rituals are performed here.

There are two buildings used for mass here. The area is massive and very open and suitable for handling large crowds.

One is the main and the biggest church hall, other one is a small church which is the old one and now we call it Chappelle and third is the graveyard which is also big and most important very clean. The main building has glass frame instead of wall. If yiu enter the Chappelle ten you will find a peaceful place where you can find yourself whether you are christian or not. Beautiful Roman Catholic Church in Dhaka and probably biggest around Dhaka city. Good praying atmosphere, friendly church official, easy access, abandance of prayer service and huge numbers of Masses in Bangla and in english to suit your time frame. They have all the small groups for youngs, couples, oldies like 'Maria Sena Shangha' SSVP to name a few. There are sister's of Charity and other congregations around and even a orphan's boarding house, home for homeless sick people, schools, college, community center, of their own. The Biggest Credit Union in Bangladesh is there and community gets fantastic financial services there who are not welcomed in regular banking. Whatever I say or write, will still be less than what they offer or serve to christian community in Dhaka Thank you & enjoy visiting this beautiful church and say Thank You God keeping me alive and health!!
