Monument from 1820 for Prince of Orange, Willem Frederik (later King Willem II), because he was the first to repel the French attack near Brussels in 1815, allowing the English to deliver the final blow a little later at Waterloo. Officially, this monument is located exactly 1KM from the palace, but if you measure this online with Google Maps or one of the competitors, you will end up in the pond behind the palace. Nevertheless, a nice monument for Baarn (and the Royal House). You cannot park there, but approximately 400 meters away you can park opposite the Baarnsch Lyceum and the Waldheim Mavo. Nice spot to take a walk through the Baarnse Bos.

It's a shame that no maintenance is planned for this monument. The front is gray and partly broken. This is Dutch history to which we could really pay more attention

This monument is near palace Soestdijk. The monument was build in 1815. The distance between the palace and the monument is exactly a kilometer. The monument remembers the Battle of Waterloo, Belgium In 1815. It’s easy to reach the monument but there is no parking place. Easiest way would be to use a bike or mother cycle. The nearest train station is 1,7 km away from it.

Special monument, which is in a straight line with the steps of Soestdijk Palace.

Green surroundings in a quiet place. Walking distance to the royal palace Soestdijk. Not a must, but nice.

An interesting place from a historical point of view, with a view of the steps of Soestdijk Palace.

The place is located on the main road to the center of Soest, close to the Royal Palace, so it is worth visiting the palace along the way and visiting this place to learn a piece of history.

You have to maintain monuments. That is heritage.

The memorial needle monument is officially called the Needle of Waterloo in tribute to Willem Frederik, the later King William II.Β He was the first to repel an attack by the French at Quatre Bras (near Brussels) in 1815, which ultimately resulted in the defeat of the French Emperor Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. The monument from 1815 was designed by the architect Abraham van der Hart.Β It is located in the municipality of Baarn.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Beautiful park with a history the new owners of the glass house are ready to tell you any time. Worth a visit while in the town of Baarn.
