West Kolghensa Park of GPO was declared open in 1979 by then President Ziaur Rahman. As if anyone can stand here and express their opinion freely. Since then this place started being used for meetings and gatherings of political parties. The park has been occupied since 2000. Rent-a-car traders take over part of the park. On April 26, 2011, during the tenure of the last Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police issued an order banning public gatherings in Muktangan until further notice. And Dhaka South City Corporation has made it a garbage dump.
