Jeden ersten Sonntag im Monat ist der Eintritt frei. Es ist super schön in der nähe vom Münster gelegen. Man kann 1-2 Stunden verweilen und hat sehr schöne Exponate.

A lot of interesting information for kids. You should have at least 3 hours to see and try everything at the museum.

All signs are in German so the audioguide is essential if your a non German speaker. Good museum overall but not massive. Ensure you get a map as there are a few tucked away sections which you don't want to miss.

Toll gemacht! Die Sonderausstellung haben wir nicht besucht.

Excellent natural history museum in Basel. Huge number of exhibits covering the eras from dinosaurs to humans. The stuffed animals are incredibly well done and look lifelike. The amount of information is huge, but very well presented. Note, the written information next to all exhibits is only in German, so make sure to take the audio guide in your language if you don't know German.

Would be 5 stars but descriptions were all in German only. Having gone to museums around the world I was expecting multilingual text. There’s an English audio guide but it’s just long stories of how the pieces got into the museum and doesn’t describe the actual object/animal

Nice museum to visit if you have a couple of hours to spare; interesting insect collection (both alive and dead) at the top floor. Cool fossils too. Great for kids 👍

I happened to pass one evening when they had free entry until 11pm. Maybe most of the museum was closed, but there did not seem to be a lot in there: just a few galleries of stuffed animals and minerals, and a temporary exhibition about ears. I enjoyed it, but would have been very disappointed if I had paid full price!

A very well curated museum! All the displays are only on German though, except for the new exhibits (which are in German and English). I still recommend checking out their full collection even if you do not speak German as they have a very interesting collection of artifacts!

Ein wahnsinnig toll gemachtes Museum. Schon alleine das Treppenhaus ist einen Besuch wert. Die Ausstellung ist super gemacht - da ist für jeden was dabei.

The special exhibitions are always amazing. Most of the rest of the museum, too, but some of it is a bit dated. Still, it's a fantastic outing with children, and the museum shop is nice.

Lovely natural history museum, certainly worth a visit if you are on Basel. It is located near the Münster, so you have also have plenty of other sightseeing opportunities if you plan a visit. The entry fees are very reasonable and if you have a Swiss Raiffeisen bank with the member plus option, you can get free entry. The exhibition is distributed on 4 levels and one of them is reserved for specials, which change frequently. You can also take your kids, as there is a lot of cool stuff to see. For example, they got a full ant hive built in a transparent tube system, so you can see their every movement. They also got a mammoth! There is also a place for parking the strollers and having a quick bite, but there is no restaurant or bistro, so you gotta take your own food. Although, there is a vending machine with coffee, tea and other drinks.

We enjoyed with kids. I love this kind of museum where you can attach yourself so easily. You can witness a vivid picture of evolution in front of you. A nice Audio guide available for your assistance apart from boards, tags beside every article. I especially loved butterfly section.

Great place to spend a rainy Boxing Day Sunday. The english language tour of the environmental exhibit on the top floor was very interesting but also relaxing.

Well worth a visit to kill an hour when in town, good to see on a rainy day. Cheap, and 4 floors of interesting stuff to see............a woolly mammoth which is pretty cool, fossils and dino exhibits.........brought my son who enjoyed it.

We really looked forward to go to this museum because the collection looked very promising. And we found an awesome interesting place in it. We were on a trip so the staff was very helpful and friendly when our bags did not fit into the lockers and kept it safe behind the cashier. The museum itself is a collection of the remains of real animals or parts of them. There is also much interesting information given to the certain objects. You can for example find skeletons of a small dinosaur, a special kind of rhino, many mammals, a snake and also creatures of the sea and from millions of years ago. One of the most impressive things was a giant realistic display of a Mammut. Not all of them were behind glass so the experience got even better because you could touch the animals and bones. In another room you can learn more about the history of the earth itself. A place you definitely should visit if you can!

Absolutely wow... Celebrated our kids birthday here and all the kids had a great time. Easily can spend 3-4 hours here

This was a surprisingly fun museum with lots of animal models on display. Although all the physical displays were in German, there was an English audio guide that allowed me to learn a lot. This museum is fun for both kids and adults and takes just a couple of hours to go around.

The museum is rather small and light on displays. You can easily work your way though in under an hour. It's worth a visit, but don't expect to be blown away.

Impressive museum with a mammoth and giraffe. Unfortunately it was too hot in the top floor so they don't have the ant burrow at the moment. The beehive was very interesting.

This is my favorite museum in Basel. I recently went there with my scouts-group of young children and we had the best time there. Lots to see and feel, perfect for kids and toddlers. Apart from that, also a very interesting place for adults too.

Best museum in the centre of Basel with a lot to see. Additionally, at the time of writing, there was an amazing exhibition of the World Press Photos of 2022. There is a lot to see and can definitely recommend when passing having time.

The museum is good for family and its well curated. Everything inside is only in German, which is very sad. As much as it is a great museum, I don’t understand much.

Great place with lots of historical information about nature. Must visit. Good for the kids too.

  • 3/5 Alexandra E. 7 months ago on Google
I was not impressed. Definitely right now is a generation of interactive activities, and the museum doesn’t have that. I loved some parts of the exhibition, but after 20 minutes I was looking to do activities with my toddler.

Lovely surprise. Excellent musuem. Our focus of the visit was dinosaurs and geology. My 9 year old loved it. Woolly mammoth impressive.

The exhibits were great and provided a great deal of information. The atmosphere was amazing at the 'Wildlife photographer of the year' exhibit

Fascinating and we'll worth the visit. First Sunday of each month has free access.

Right in the middle of the old town, the museum is not very big but good enough to spend at least 2h with a young child.

  • 5/5 Reg T. 11 months ago on Google
The 1st Sunday of the month is an open day and free entrance. This past Sunday was a family day. It was a great experience hosted by the Kidz Club. The kids and adults could partake in various activities: real fossil digging, crafting an insect catcher, and solving a natural crime mystery. Thank you to the museum for the great effort. Well done 👏 ✔️.
