While I agree with the previous reviewers of it not being so special, it’s relatively a good destination for İstanbul if you’re looking for something a bit different to what the city offers. The museum is in a good location with enough attractions and things to do without needing to go far. There’s a beautiful cafeteria and a small art shop with affordable prices but a limited options. With that being said, I would definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re in town and would like to experience something different.

Often overlooked but cozy museum over 5 floors (last 2 occupied by modern art exhibitions). The entrance fee is only 100 liras and a couple of paintings are stunning. View from the top floor is decent but currently not accessible due to an artwork installed in front of it.

This is such a beautiful and fascinating museum. When I visited, there were five super interesting and unusual exhibitions on, ranging from an introspective look at the idea of an “archive” and how ideas of the past continue to shape our future, to a quirky little exhibition on the history of weighing and measurement in the Near East. The exhibition called “Souvenirs of the Future” stood out to me. It was thoughtful, beautifully curated, and the labels were gorgeously written. I was so amazed at how much this museum offers and at such a reasonable price of entry (less than a cup of coffee). The cafe is stunning as well, with a classy but relaxed vibe.

Beautiful museum with a variety of different historical and artistic exhibits, not too big just about an hour needed to cover four small floors. The Tortoise Trainer painting is featured here and a few other interesting pieces from that era.

This museum is nice if you have an hour or so to kill while you’re around the area. When I was there, only two of the exhibit floors were open to visitors. I felt like it wasn’t enough. However, there were nice pieces I didn’t expect seeing there. The entry price is only 10 tl. I just wish there was more to see.

The building, where the museum operates, started its operations in 2005 by preserving the facade of the Bristol Hotel building, designed by architect Achille Manoussos in 1893. It can be said that Pera Museum, located in the vibrant area of the city, serves as a contemporary museum and cultural center. The Museum contains the Orientalist Painting Collection, which contains more than three hundred works. This collection includes works by European orientalists between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. The characteristic of these orientalists is that they are painters influenced by Ottoman culture. Also, the Tortoise Trainer painting, which is among the works of Osman Hamdi Bey, is exhibited here. Peaceful picture you must see for sure. A great activity to do while in Istanbul! We spent about 2 hours here. There are so many models (awesome to see) and the whole place is very impressively put together. Fair note for those who are thinking of visiting during these (pandemic) times - we assume because of there are far less tourists - they are essentially operating in low season style. Still, we really enjoyed ourselves and had a great snack and coffee at the establishment restaurant (which is fully open). Would recommend!!

This is a fun place to visit if you have an spare hour or two! It’s basically has miniature models of a lot of famous mosques and landmarks of turkey (not just istanbul) - it’s very well laid out (almost like a walking tour where you don’t have to double back but get to see everything) and the models are very detailed! I’m in awe of how detailed the carvings on the mosque doors are... there are details about each model in English and Turkish in front of each model, and also an app with audio guide as well (though it’s not super different than what’s in front of the model) There are not only the famous landmarks like Sophia Mosque, blue mosque, cappadocia’s ferry chimney, Topkapi palace, but also lesser known ones that’s also pretty cool! I think entrance fee was 20TL - definitely worth it!

We visited at the opening in the morning and we had the place to ourselves. Pera Museum, Galata Overall experience: 9/10 Spotless bathrooms. No crowds. Excellent audio guides. Focus on Osman Hamdi Bey (Orientalist artist). If you enjoy art, take out 40minutes of your day to pass by Pera Museum. You walk in, you are greeted by a tiny little reception and pay TL25 (which is about $2). If you have your ID, you can give it to them as a deposit and you can borrow an English audio guide. Tip: bring headphones from home (regular type, not apple) so you can plug them into your audio guide. It’s easier than lifting the guide up to your ear. The 5th, 4th & 3rd floors are temporary exhibitions. These depend on your luck. Since they keep changing, it really depends what time of year you visit. The 2nd & 1st floors are permanent exhibitions focusing on 18th/19th century Orientalist paintings. This is where I enjoyed myself the most. Especially the exhibition on Osman Hamdi Bey. They call his painting “The Tortoise Trainer” the Mona Lisa of Turkey. Btw, for more content / reviews you can check out my blog on instagram @jordanianexplorer You can also send me a Direct Message on instagram if you have questions. 😄

This museum is legit. Entrance is 25 Lira for adults and there are multiple floors with really cool exhibits. When I went in September 2020, they had a really interesting exhibit about Albanian propaganda art which was awesome. Nice, clean museum with good air con and lots of COVID preventative measures in place.

It's an amazing open air museum with miniature replicas of almost all the iconic and historically significant monuments/ structures of Turkey. It wasn't crowded as this is not a typical touristy spot. We visited on a cold day with light showers, but it would be even better on a sunny day. Highly recommended for families and people who are interested in history or educational tourism spots. The management was sweet and helped us with arranging a wheelchair for a senior visitor immediately. The place took all precautions that are necessary during the pandemic. The washroom was fine and usuable. The restaurant, however was just ok, most of the items on their menu wasn't available, so we mostly settled for potatoes/fries.

Here everything is in one place for little money. I do not mind at all those few hours that we spent in the park, but we saw everything. Highly recommend. (Original) Турция в миниатюре. Museum is on two floors, has cafe just before the exit. First floor history of weights, from ancient to modern, some coins, Great paintings on the second floor.

Quite interesting museum of modern Art with a great view from the last floor. Expected it to be bit bigger 🙃 but in general, quite nice and well organized — great descriptions of the exposition.

A beautiful and modern museum. The facility is well worth visiting as a tourist or resident. There is a very nice and stylish cafe on the first floor.

The museum is just amazing. It is a private museum and it is actually pretty small however the exhibitions are just mind blowing. Since it's a private museum there is a small fee at the entrance but is definitely worth the money. The museum closes later than normal museums (around 19.00) and you can enter the museum until 18.30 or around. The current exhibition is about the byzantine heritage and was just fascinating. Definitely worth to pay a visit. Museum is located at a fairly easy place. If you use the small street ish passage next to "Koton" shop at Istiklal street all you need to do is turn right and museum will be around in 50 m or smt. Museum is close to public transportation too ( Public transport till Istiklal street, than that means you basically arrived)

Great museum! Visited during a weekday. There were 2 floors open, one with the Ottoman pictures and the other one was with the measuring tools of our ancestors! There is a coffee shop on the first floor, so dont buy any drinks before entering, otherwise youll have to trow them away!

Waited around 30 mins to get in with 10 people ahead of me and spent around an hour in the museum. Quite interesting but I won’t consider it a must do

50 lira for an adult ticket. Completely worth the money. It’s 5 floors with different historical pieces or art in each. The 3rd floor modern art was my favorite. Highly recommend & it’s a short walk to Galata tower and right by Istiklal street

I visited the museum three times, and each time, I had a profound and moving experience. The exhibitions are great with cutting, deep, and thought-provoking and inspiring messages. It's always nice to walk around the artistic spaces, and it feels like you're walking around alone, even if there are a lot of people. The staff is nice. I recommend ending the tour at the cafe on the first floor:)

  • 4/5 Mihai B. 1 year ago on Google
The museum offers a good amount of paintings and pictures (they were present as part of the temporary exhibition, so you may not get to see them) that were spread on 5 floors. It's an enjoyable experience and if you love art or plan to stay a week or so in the city, you can definitely have a look.

Had a great time! Lots to see. Great curation. Two visiting exhibits: Istanbul Today, and Paula Rego, and permanent floors. Worth the time, and helped to further deepen my understanding of Turkey, it’s people, culture, and Istanbul.

Visited on 7/4 and had chance to see cool 4 differen exhibitions in 5 floors. A great value for such a diverse city but Turtoise Trainer (Kaplumbağa Terbiyecisi) by Osman Hamdi Bey is the highlight of the museum. This is a must to visit if you are around the neighbourhood. Ps: Fridays are free entrance after 6pm.

Cheap entry price and beautiful current exhibitions, especially the top two floors about Göpeklitepe shot by Isabel Muñoz. I didn’t know about Göpeklitepe before and it’s exactly the kind of thing I’m curious about, plus the images were stunning, evocative, solidly installed. Gorgeous!

It was one of the best mine experiences in Istanbul - cause the city is for sure art-friendly place. The exhibitions were great and really important, because in my history major I've seen the pieces only on Google pictures and to see them in real life is worth every coin and minute spent

Nice museum! A little small with only 2 floors but beautiful paintings and interesting artifacts from different eras. (I don't have a picture of the paintings room but it was my favorite! There was even a VR experience where you could enter into Osman Hamdi Bey's famous painting the tortoise trainer, very cool!), and on Friday nights from 6pm to 10 pm it's free!

Excellent! I really love it! Not very big, modern and some classic paintings. There is a place with virtual reality to see how artist lived.

A great museum that doesn’t only offer great exhibitions (I particularly enjoyed the modern art on the last floors) but also a stunning Istanbul view
