I'll preface this review by saying I've visited several restaurants on the world's top 100 list and have enjoyed all of them. Nerua was the first I did not enjoy at all. The food is oily and creamy with no freshness to cut through the fat. All of the seafood dishes leave a rancid fishy after taste in your mouth. The portion sizes of some of the dishes is very confusing (is it meant to be part of a larger meal or a stand alone dinner?). Our waitress was thoroughly confused that we wished to do the tasting menu without the wine pairing and could not explain any of the dishes to us. The only good part of the meal was the final dessert, toasted butter ice cream in a freshly baked mini brioche bun. Of all of the amazing restaurants available in Bilbao, do not come here.

Seriously over rated. It’s a really good price point for a Michelin starred restaurant that’s listed in the worlds top 50 (2019), but unfortunately, it stops there. Service is average, waiters are genuinely friendly, but lack experience, which questions the star. The food, their signature tomato dish where they ask you to guess the different ingredients… ummm… it taste the same. Listen, the food was okay, but not amazing, so I have little idea what the other reviewers are thinking when they give this place 5 stars. Yeah yeah, I know everyone have different palates and taste buds, but I don’t really care.

Beautiful restaurant in the perfect location. Food was well presented, creative and delicious. Great service as expected. Wine pairing was well chosen and perfectly complementing the plates.

(Translated by Google) We've been my wife and I in one of the few breaks we can do to having 2 small children. I notice that I will be especially hard, can not be less with a restaurant that has the awards and prices of the Nerua. We ordered the tasting menu of 14 dishes. Overall an experience worth doing, with impeccable service. The dishes were accompanied by a marriage without alcohol we appreciate as an option and we found very successful. The dishes (always from our view) had its lights and shadows, which we shall discuss. First I would like to comment on the lights. Foie dish with lentils was superb and probably one of the best dishes I've eaten in a tasting menu, also worth naming the pigeon, which had an exquisite flavor and done to perfection. Let's move into the shadows, the plate shallot think it was poorly executed, I refuse to think that this dish has been thought so. I was braised shallot was presented with caviar, and I guess it should be eaten by mixing the flavors of both. Shallot had a raw onion taste that not only killed the taste of the caviar (a pity, for the few times I like) is that if you do not give a good trip to the marriage we ask annoys me the next dish. I would have invested fish sauces. The rooster is a fish with very little taste wine with a mild sauce that I remember was almond, and the streak is a fish more flavorful wine with a strong sauce and a little spicy. In our opinion the right thing would have been otherwise, the line, I tried it without the sauce and was very rich and flavorful, knew no more than would have enjoyed sauce and flavor with a smooth sauce. On the other hand the rooster, it was a very flat dish in its original presentation would have been a good companion to a stronger sauce. Because comments are a bit critical, I tried to send them private to the Nerua, but I have not found under "feedback" or suggestions. I do not want to detract from the great work done by the team of the Nerua, safe repeat and make these criticisms with the spirit both help errors amend (I think the shallot is clearly one) and to provide information about the taste of diners ( such as fish).

Overall we had a great experience in this mythical place. The cuisine was great and the flavours were quite interesting. The chef really enjoys coffee in his dishes, which is an interesting choice. Every single plate was nicely dressed and the wine paired perfectly. Only things to improve is avoiding a couple “errors” from the staff, who was not able to help us with the choice of the wine. We had a really great time.

I've added pictures but they don't really described the experience of dining here. We had an amazing tasting menu with wine pairing. Each dish was prepped with beautiful ingredients, cooked with care and served friendly. The flavour experience was amazing and we'll balanced.

Great experience of the best the basque kitchen has to offer. Every dish was well balanced, local and paired great with the wines. Waiting staff were really kind. Seeing the enthusiastic kitchen staff as well really showed the passion of basque food. Good price/quality for a Michelin star!

Nice restaurant. The fish is spectacular, but the starters or dessert not so much. The staff is nice, but the atmosphere is a bit cold at first and stressful when the restaurant is full. With better organisation and slight improvement of starters this will be a top restaurant.

Salty and moribund. What the food lacked in taste was made up for by an abundance of salt. As the French say, perhaps the cook was in love... or perhaps Nerua has just stopped trying very hard. For the price, not worth it. Good product, but not very convincingly conveyed. I did like the three mini-starters and the three post-dessert bits, but in between I only remember salt.

(Translated by Google) A total disappointment, the Michelin star does not know where it was taken. The dishes of the summer of 2019 were of cheap ingredients, simple things, nothing compared to the restaurant of Canales or Eneko. We took the 14-course menu, € 145 per head, most of the dishes with the same vinegar flavor, at the end of the meal just wanted to drink water. The place, very small and without decoration with very dim light, tired my eyes. The treatment of the waiters great except for one who told his partner in a mocking tone "and how are you going to pay?" In general I would not return, too expensive for what it is.

We enjoyed a 9 course menu with alcoholic and non alcoholic pairing. Excellent service, staff and food. It was all perfect except the wrong non alcoholic drink was served with the desert, this was rectified when the mistake was pointed out. But all in all we had an amazing experience!

Nerua was very good. The staff took good care and we got a welcome and talk in the kitchen. Food and wines were great. One thing that was slightly less good was the end. It took a long while for them to see we needed the bill and only the kitchen staff said goodbye.

A Michelin one star restaurant. Underwhelming. We had mussels and anchovies cooked two ways for a starter. The mussels did not taste as anything really, and were underseasoned to our taste. The anchovies where ok and the sauce was nice. However 20 euro for 4 fishes is too much given the fact that two days earlier in Porto we had 12 grilled sardines for 6 euros at the beach. And fatty grilled fish flavor is essentially the same. So you are paying for one of the cooks putting charcoal over the fish in front of you. For a main course we had sweetbreads and tuna belly. The tuna was very good and flavorful we really liked it. The sweetbreads preparation is a miss for me - deep frying does not do anything for flavor. The sweetbreads tasted as pop corn chicken in the US - mostly the batter. For desserts we had avocado ice cream ( nice combination of salty and sweet - we liked a lot) and some strawberry desert that was good but not outstanding. The wines are reasonably priced. We had a local hondarrabi zuri and it was excellent. The staff is nice, efficient and attentive - they do not bother you much as at some of similar places. We opted out of a tasting menu and it was the right choice. We also had some complimentary starters from the chef. I did not understand the “gazpacho” - it tasted like raw celery juice. The other three were good. Overall it was a pleasant experience, but in my opinion it does not worth the money…I will not return

Expensive but wow. The quality and the sheer amount of food is worth it. And being in a beautiful locating helps, too. I did wish the tables were smaller and there were more windows, but thats my biggest complaint. Incredible service that is very personalised. Michelin star quality food. I did the 14 plate tasting menu (see pics) and I was stuffed. The appetizers served in the kitchen set the night off beautifully, and even though I didn't do the wine pairing menu, the waiter was incredibly helpful with choosing glasses that would fit the next several courses (hey, I am a slower drinker!). Then the food.... Dessert.... The sauces....even the bread.... Was all amazing, sometimes a bit weird but it always tasted delicious. Spent 3.5 hours there, arrived when they opened and stayed till it closed. This is a fancy and elegant experience to be sure, but if you are looking for an incredible bonding and food experience, go to Nerua.

Nice warm surprising welcoming! The service is no less then perfect in this small upscale restaurant; nice friendly professional waiters. The food is interesting and super creative, but because in the evening you have to take the tasting menu, read it carefully before you choose one, there are some dishes which contain unique local (and strange) sea food, , and most of us didn't like it. In the end we spend a lot of money, got good dinner, but didn't eat everything. Also the room were they served dinner is small and has only one window, make sure they turn on the A/C otherwise it can became too hot and even hard to breath.

Beautiful wine list with super stron representation of Spanish wines. Nothing more expected from 1 Michelin star place.

This is without a doubt the best experience I have had in dining. The service was excellent and the servings were an experience of flavor. The sauces were something I haven't experienced. I was traveling alone but they accommodated me with no problem. So much so I had to go back the next night. Again, perfection. Thank you for the experience.

I had lunch the day early in the little brother mBistro NERUA because Monday was closed. The service was good but the food is not for the level expected. After read the reviews, I think no many people eat in a one or two Michelin star restaurant , therefore I think they are not very trustworthy, my opinion: -The plates are missing a punch of flavor as expected. -The tomatoes dish is a joke. - The fish with reduction of olives is missing quality and quantity. - The “mini bocadillo” is a plate with a “earthy” taste done by seeds that remember you eating sand from not well clean mushrooms. - The tuna was “Ok la”. - The anchovies very basic, and the next meat and dish plates just nothing special. I even introduce one plate more in the menu but quantity were ridiculous. 240 EUR bill and a big disappointment. I wish the chef read this because I gave some comments to the waitress about it but I think chef is somehow in a dream of a concept is not even close to the reality. Service perfect, very slow peace, food disappointing, quantity disappointing and price as expected. A BIG NO for this place…find other one

Dear owner and chef The restaurant really has great location and also michelin one star, so many of people wanna visit here. the price is reasonable to pay for 80euros for course. One thing I want to suggest, please focus on more service. I thought Jenny(waitress, dont know exact name) is manager, only she has good skill to explain food and care customer. If you want develop your reputation of reataurant, hire her as manager and grow up the skill of others servers. I never been same feeling in Michelin restaurant, I can pay only 10euros for service. So sorry for that

The food was really nice, the ambiance a bit clinical but you'll get used to it real quick. The service was nice but not what you expect from a high class restaurant. They were late on several times with the wine and even one time they forgot to pour the pairing wine with the course.

Had the opportunity to have a meal (lunch) at Nerua and was not disappointed. Their Michelin * is well deserved and the restaurant lived up to it. While you can opt for a prix-fixe menu for $80 €, we saw a lot of other interesting item to try. We therefore were allowed to choose a la carte and they split the starters. We choose from the new seasonal menu - artichoke, foie with mushrooms, hake smoked with leaks, and the individual mains were sweetbreads and the rooster fish. Needless to say, the artichokes were wonderful, the hake delightful, the foie a new taste treat with the rooster fish cooked as perfectly as any fish we have had and the sweetbreads probably amongst the best ever. The sauces were all perfectly composed and perfectly complemented each dish. For dessert, we opted for the pumpkin cream - more like a very light mousse with beer ice cream and bergamot and cookie crumble. Fantastic. With wine, the total was about the same €’s as the set menu. And by the way, the bake their own bread and it is to die for. BRAVO for a wonderful experience.

It is a decent michelin stared restaurant. They wine pairing is excellent in most cases but even the smaller set menues are a bit too much to eat. Many commenters complain that the food is too ordinary for a Michelin star restaurant, but I thought it was fine - it was a typical 1 star level of cooking. I really liked the anchovy dish. It is also great to see a non-alcoholic drink pairing, though it was in fact rather monotone (all sweet juices). A few suggestions: 1. Why use a ton of power to have the AC set to minus infinity? We were lucky to have sweaters and still left almost hypothermic. 2. Replace the creaky chairs - I understand the need to have some funky or distinctive features but this idea is a miss... 3. The waiters should refill guests' water more attentively, and once forgot to serve the pairing drink with the meal.

This is not a restaurant deserving of a michelin star. We’ve eaten at others and the experiences have been memorable. This was lackluster at best. The service was poor. Empty glasses of water, bread without olive oil, crumbs all over the table and you wait and wait for service. I was very disappointed. After this experience, my children mentioned they’d prefer to eat at a chain restaurant. The food started out great with the complimentary appetizers but after the first course, everything else was just OK. Not the experience we were hoping for. I would gladly spend good money on a dinner if it was worth it. Also, check your check, we got charged for two extra glasses of cava that we didn’t order.
