This place was an absolute vile and extreme case of false advertising. The website makes it seem like it is going to be a quaint, well kept, almost whimsical inn but it was anything but that. It greatly resembled a halfway house that I did not feel safe whatsoever sleeping in. I didn’t even feel comfortable leaving my car in the parking lot (which by the way you have to pay for and they never tell you that ahead of time) and was very scared to park there. Now for the room… the room had such a distinct odor that is indescribable. The bed was EXTREMELY loud and old even to get up and down I felt I would be waking up everyone around me. I didn’t even want to lay on the sheets or use the blankets so I laid towels down I had in my car and a used a blanket from home. Additionally, there is no AC but there’s a fan in the room that doesn’t even work. we thought we would open the window to get around this but we were quickly taught if we wanted to sleep at all that night it wouldn’t be possible because outside is SO loud at ALL hours. For around $200 a night this was unacceptable conditions. The staff however was very friendly but don’t waste your money. This place needs some extreme updates and while it is a good location to be near the city, spend your money somewhere else. Walked out of there feeling dirty and scammed.

It’s hard to give a 3 star because I was desperate to find something under $200 near the subway, airport and train station. This was my first time ever visiting Boston. I guess something big was going on because this was our only option. $171 was our final price for one night and I can compare it to a motel that’d be $45 a night. Because of the quality, I was worried about my safety but the neighborhood was great! Young families and students everywhere and I felt safe walking at night to and from the subway stop. The front desk help was so nice and offered free water and snacks, but after we left the lobby, my smile quickly fell. Our room was in a large apartment building down the street and around the corner. 3 locked doors and 3 flights later, we got to our double room with a hallway shared bathroom. I included a video of our room. It stayed cool though and our neighbors were never too noisy. The bathroom was the scariest part. I’d bring shower shoes and a caddy if you need to stay more than one night. My husband didn’t think too much about the cleanliness but I was terrified to touch any surface. Overall, it did what it needed to do but if I could’ve moved to another hotel, I would’ve in a heartbeat. I will never be back again but it has the potential to be a nice option for a cheap, one night stay.

A mixture of the very best and very worst. Building itself dates back to 1899. The rooms are all cold and drafty. They won't upgrade to comfortable beds! The beds they have are army cots, queen sized. They're the MOST uncomfortable imaginable. They won't upgrade the bathrooms! The toilets work POORLY so a plunger is made handy, because one is FREQUENTLY needed! There are 4 bathrooms for 50-odd guests. Two of the bathrooms have showers; but don't expect warm water until they run for 10 to 12 minutes first! The hotel owners could select two large rooms and remodel them into two modern additional bathrooms, with showers and tubs. They could remodel the existing old old old bathrooms. But they're stupid, so they don't. This inn is historic: it is definitely the oldest continuously operating hotel in America.

For the price I paid, the washer and dryer worked fine, the room was properly heated, and all common areas were clean. Thank you for the stay I really enjoyed the service!

This was a tough one. The rooms were def not as pictured as on the website. Very deceiving. Very dirty. Bathroom had no soap and bed Def had hair and dirt in under the covers. However, the guy at the service desk was very pleasant originally gave a discount for one vehicle and upgrading our rooms to two full beds. But when we got up to the room Def was very smelly and dirty. We told him he checked and then refunded me in full. Which I was not expecting. I don't think I would have stayed there even if I was by myself.

Room was clean enough, and thankfully no bed bugs, but honestly it’s kind of shameful to offer the room at that price. The mattress was so old and insanely creaky, I thought I would wake up all the other guests every time I lied down. I’ve never heard a mattress sound like that in my life. Also, the mattress had a huge gap in the middle, felt like I was sleeping in a ditch or a gutter. Can’t believe they thought that was acceptable. That mattress should have been thrown away 10 years ago. Not sure how the other rooms were, but I was in room 121, avoid that room until they decide to put a new mattress in there! Also, that room was right outside the parking lot where management parks their cars right outside my window, so you constantly hear every bit of their conversations, including condescending remarks to the cleaning staff for not being organized enough… try buying a new mattress for your rooms before criticizing your employees. The office phone started ringing at 4am right outside my door, and there was insane amounts of noise all night and early morning in the building. Also, the faucet was leaking, with loud drops into the metal sink. I had to put a towel in the sink to dampen it so that I could try to sleep. Then I was forced to stay a second night because of complications with my luggage and travel, and the guy at the counter upcharged me an extra $15 because “the Red Sox were in town”. As if I or anyone else gives a damn about the Red Sox. So afterwards I went online and saw that the price of the room was the same online that it had been the previous night, and I had been swindled out of $15. This place is business first, and quality a far second.

Upon entering, the host was dismissive and I had to ask him for his name. When he showed me the room, it took him the better part of a minute to open the door, which did not make me feel safe. In the room, the head board was dislodged from the bed frame and there were holes in the dry wall. The mattress was short, old, and not supportive. The window AC had a hole exposing the window to the outside. There was debris on the floor, from what I assume was from a previous customer. The shared bathroom was covered in mold and I had to crouch to wash my hair under the shower head. You had to ask for toiletries instead of being provided them in the room. You couldn't pay me to stay in this hotel again, let alone $200 a night.

Easily the worst room I've ever booked. Check-in is analog and moves at a snails pace. They're actually using metal keys that must be jiggled to open the door. The carpeting is musky and creates an asthmatic reaction. The AC is a window unit that took about 15 hours to cool the room. Anytime a door is opened or closed you hear it, the walls are thin. Got 1 towel for 2 people. This place is not worth $120 a night, frankly not worth $50 a night.

This is an older building so things are older. I've stayed here twice and had different rooms. Some rooms have small kitchen areas, some have full kitchens. They ha e shared bathrooms but never had any problems using them. The location is great. Plenty of entertainment and food in walking distance. Most importantly you are not going to beat this price in Boston. I'll be going back soon.

So I had to get a portable heater from the reception because the heating in the house doesn't work. Run-down is to kind. I had a mouse in my room, everything is smelly and moldy, the windows don't close properly, the lock on the door is a joke, the matresses are so old you can feel the bed's structure through it. Linen and everything seemed clean and fresh. Overall this is the worst accommodation I've ever been to and it's not even cheap, I paid over 100$/night. Savee yourself the trouble and just get a dorm or couchsurf, the "privacy" you get here is not worth it.

As many of the reviews indicate, the two workers I spoke with were friendly. Off street parking for $10 was a good deal. The carpets on the stairs and paint in the hallway are in poor to fair condition. The room was small but not too small. The AC worked fine. The mattress is way overdue to be replaced, obviously sagging where people sleep. The sheets were clean and the two surfaces in the room were clean. The rug was vacuumed but looked dirty. The biggest problem was the shared bath. Very rundown. I opted to not even use the shower because of it's appearance. I paid $160 and felt it was twice as much as anyone should pay for a night at the Farrington.

We came here for the purpose to check out Harvard University on a road trip. The front desk person was really nice! I had a last minute family issue and the front desk person was more than accommodating. We spent around a hundred bucks and got a private room. The rooms are old, but it’s an old city. 🤷‍♂️ People who are saying this place is overpriced - in some places AirBNB fees are nearly half of what this place costs per night. The economy sucks and inflation has made everything expensive. I thought this was pretty fairly priced for what it was - and thought it was a great value for what we came here for!

The one positive aspect of this Inn was the kind gentlemen who checked us in and carried our bags to the room. Sadly, the room was not clean whatsoever and the toilet was not even flushed upon arrival. Although a cheap option for the area, I would expect the bare minimum when it comes to cleanliness. Overall the room and bathroom were dirty.

Five stars! Here’s to all the haters: you want an affordable room with free parking? This place if for you. It’s old AF, there are water stains on the ceiling, and the beds are squeaky—but it’s all part of the charm. We LOVED our room and the staff were responsive and helpful. This place appeals to a special kind of traveler who doesn’t require any frills or expect their room to feel like a Holiday Inn.

Honestly this place docent even deserve 1 star. The Staff is so rude, the room was absolutely disgusting, it smells terrible, there were dirty dishes in the sink, and stains on the sheets. I hate writing bad reviews but I genuinely wouldn't want anyone to experience what I did.

Feels like you’re staying in someones extra bedroom than a hotel. Shared bathrooms and tiny rooms. Beds are uncomfortable and squeaky, pillows smell old. The staff is nice when they’re around. For a “24hr manned front desk” they seem to never be there.

Pros: -All the staff I interacted with was very friendly. -Late check in was no problem Cons: -Cleanliness is lacking (see picture of pillow) -Room is very small (see picture). -Incredibly overpriced. Conclusion: The Hotel/Hostel is not bad, just overpriced. The tiny room wouldn’t be a problem if it didn’t cost over $100/Night.

Taking into account the price/quality ratio, it's the worst place I've ever stayed at, and I've been to quite a few across different continents. It's completely run down, smelly, floors are squeaky, paint is coming off the walls, restroom is dirty and bed uncomfortable. I was literally afraid to touch anything or walk in my room in just socks and had to put on my shoes on. I think it should be shut down immediately and completely refurbished. The only positive thing I can think of is that the bedsheets were clean and I survived that one night. Stay as far away as possible.

Agree with other reviews: very deceptive, nowhere near as cute as the pictures, unexpected shared bathroom (in the fine print of the confirmation email), uncomfortable/loud beds, sheets were not clean. Disagree with other reviews: staff was not very helpful. After inspecting the beds and finding them not clean (hair and other questionable bits but no bed bugs), we requested a refund. We were still charged a housecleaning fee for their dirty beds that were already dirty when we got there.

You get exactly what you pay for at the Farrington Inn. Cons: The bed was lumpy, someone tried to break into my room in the middle of the night, and there was no soap in the shared bathroom. The inn generally looked rundown but not in a way that bothered me--just manage your expectations. Pros: I did get a nice, big bedroom with good Wifi in a good location for a cheap price. The shared bathroom and the bedroom were clean and the checkout/check-in process was easy and fast.

This a exactly what you would expect for the price! Clean place to crash for a low price. Shared bathroom wasn’t what we were accustomed to but it was cleaned regularly and very well maintained. You get a fair room for the price. John the Manager is awesome and supper helpful. Location was in a safe, student neighborhood and was close to public transportation and many great restaurants.

The staff was very friendly, welcoming and accommodating! This place is a must stay if you want to be near all that Allston has to offer, AND at an affordable price! The building was rustic, quaint, and a breath of fresh air compared to the bustling atmosphere of Cambridge or Commonwealth Avenue. I would urge anyone with an adventurous spirit to indulge in a few nights at this hidden gem. Could not have been more satisfied!

I agree with most of the other reviews, the great host is one of the best aspects of this property. Great job! Loved the available snacks and cold water bottles and the snack fund idea! I recommend this place for a quick stay in Boston either solo or for a couple.

I found food crumbs and many hairs from previous guest between the mattress cover and the sheet. The sheets definitely were not washed since the previous guest. Gross. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed either as it had loads of crumbs, particles and debris all over. That didn't bother me as much, but a clean bed is THE most important thing in a hotel.

Excellent service even at late hours. The little touches like the snack fund and decor were charming. Staff are polite and very helpful. Pet friendly was a lifesaver when no other options were available. Rooms are clean and well-kept. Also appreciated the flexibility of later checkout options. Would absolutely recommend.

Only reason to stay here is because need to be at a location near it and you don't have a car and can't afford much more. I was booked for a week. When I arrived I was mortified. Old, rickety, dirty. Sharing bathrooms??? I took pictures of the bathroom I was expected to share - I wouldn't use it of I was the only one using it. The door to my room - although it closed and locked, had a huge opening at the top. I stayed the 1 night, slept in my clothes and got out of there ASAP. There is a Comfort Inn and Suites about 11 miles away in Revere that if you become a member of Choice Hotels(which costs nothing) is not that much more but is a real hotel with real amenities. I do this because how skeevy and unsafe I felt. Why anyone would stay here is beyond me

Rough rooms, but it's clean enough. No bed bugs, no draft. It's a "get what you pay for" situation. And I've paid more for worse.

Hotel is outdated and a little bit more like a rooming house or dorm house but the staff are very nice and accommodating considering that I checked in after 12am almost 1230am and they usually close the office at 12am.. I honestly didn't book my room until 5 minutes before 12 because it was a last minute emergency to scramble for a place to stay for the night with a very important appointment in the city at 9am the morning after check in...

  • 2/5 Big D. 7 months ago on Google
Very safe, free drinks and snacks but bring cleaning supplies. Everything is broken, stained and dirty especially the bathroom, there is mold higher than I thought it could possibly grow. This isn’t worth the price, there’s no toiletries and it’s so unkept.

Great value for the price. Did not see anything remotely comparable around. Friendly and caring staff. Fair rooms in a nice setting. All very clean. Unbeatable price. My 1st choice if I go back to Boston for vacation again.

I needed a place near BU for this trip that's walkable and at a reasonable price. Due to graduation time, all hotels in that area were way over priced. This one met my need for my short, 3-night stay. Room/bed was okay for me; nothing fancy (I wasn't expecting that anyways). Wi-fi worked great. Service was very friendly.

Overall had a very good experience here. The room was as expected, and did a good job serving our purposes while visiting family. What really impressed me was the service. Our plans changed a few times during our stay and management did a great job of accommodating our needs. Really happy we chose to stay here!

I stay here when I need a place to flop because it's the best value in the Harvard area, but you get what you pay for. The other reviewers are right — it's not recently upgraded. They keep it as clean as they can, the bedding is clean, the plumbing and heat works, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the community is respectful.

  • 5/5 Reed O. 1 year ago on Google
Great service - always clean and amenities are more than sufficient for the modest price. Room was very comfortable and a great alternative to a hotel, especially considering the area is very nice with amazing restaurants and stores all nearby. Definitely will be coming back.

  • 1/5 Daniel A. 1 year ago on Google
Truely the worst hotel I ever stayed in. Extremly dirty! For a price of 125$ per night we got a stained mattress on the dirtiest carped floor I ever saw. I think this hotel is no longer suitable for renting rooms and should be closed down forthwith. The hotel staff was friendly, however, if it hadn't been already 11pm at check-in and I still had energy to find a new place, I would have checked out immediately.

  • 2/5 Clare L. 1 year ago on Google
The only pro is the location and the bed was comfortable. This is advertised as having AC, it doesn’t. Not even a fan. The walls have never been cleaned and this is obviously only run by men. No soap or trash cans in the bathroom and measly locks on the doors. Additionally the baseboards were literally coming off the walls so there were exposed nails.

  • 5/5 Andrew D. 2 years ago on Google
Service was awesome! John was accommodating and helpful! Location is great, basically little Korea town! Lots of food options and places to grab a drink with the locals…. Would stay again!

  • 4/5 Argie D. 2 years ago on Google
John is very nice, courteous and honest. Stayed in single room with private bath, very reasonable. One night stay only, clean bathroom, decent location. Hmmm...I believe bed sheets and covers are not that expensive, it does not hurt to update?
