The only good part of our meal was the cajun fried catfish strips. The fried calamari was not crispy and extremely chewy, the manager removed it from our bill. My son ordered the popcorn shrimp, which was also not crispy at all, with a strong fishy flavor. The manager argued that the shrimp was cooked that way to please the masses. I have never went anywhere that fried seafood served soggy was preferred. I will definitely never be back. Very average place. But our server was super nice!

I've been to the Fish Market several times and it has always been a great experience. Our group of 4 walked in and got a table right away. Vasilis was our waiter and was the best! He broke down the menu and recommended several dishes that we might enjoy. I had the Red Snapper plate with 2 sides, French fries and black eyed peas. My wife had the stuffed crabs. Everything was hot and fresh. Higely recommended!

Nice place to visit in birmingham for seafood. Overall the oysters and fish I tasted are fresh and juicy and the environment is bright and joyful. We order some daily specials and the whole baked bass and oysters. Our favorite side is the broccoli and fried okra. Does the quality is the best in its price range in birmingham? I think it’s kinda fair price but not the best.

The Fish Market downtown is a Birmingham must! I have been going for almost two decades and I have never been disappointed. The food reminds me of my youth growing up in rural Alabama where freshly caught fish was common and served with the best sides from the garden. The service was great and even though they were busy the wait wasn’t long at all. The sweet tea was as perfect as it can get. I usually get the whole catfish but I haven’t had a bad entree.

First, you know the smell of hot garbage? Well, the grouper I ordered tasted exactly like how that smells. I spit it out and told our server, Alex (he did a fantastic job), who immediately put in a new order for me. He was able to get us free desserts, which I appreciated, but the manager never came over to our table to talk to us about it. THAT was disappointing. Not only that, but usually, when you arrive and walk up to the host or hostess stand, you expect them to stop whatever they're doing to at least acknowledge you ("Hi, welcome, we'll be with you shortly"). Well, the manager and other man (host?) didn't do that. Anyway, I'd say I have pretty average standards for restaurants, but I was pretty disappointed in my first experience there.

Love this place! All of the food was phenomenal. We started with crab claws that tested very fresh. I got the grilled shrimp over pasta with lemon butter. It was amazing! Big portion sizes allow for leftovers. Will be going here again!

I have heard great things about this restaurant, it’s located downtown. Very chill Mediterranean environment. I had pomegranate martini, highly recommend, with grilled salmon and green salad. My friend had the talipia with green salad as well. I had a baklava for desert, it was dry but asked the waiter to warm it up with honey on the top. Overall great experience, highly recommended for seafood.

We went to Birmingham for my father's doctor appointments and had time to catch lunch between them. We opted for The Fish Market | Southside. When we arrived, we explained to the hostess that we only had about an hour and she gave us all sorts of tips to make certain we would be out within the hour. We placed our order and found a seat on the patio. Up to this point, we were delighted with all the waiters and waitresses we encountered. Everyone was polite, helpful, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. My father ordered the Jambalaya with a side of cole slaw and a baked potato, my sister ordered the Great Big Greek Salad with chicken on top, a side of fried pickles, and Greek potatoes, and I ordered the Classic Greek Salad with shrimp on top and Greek rice. To say the food was positively divine is an understatement. The flavors were delicious and blended wonderfully. We each were quite pleased with the choices we made. And the portions... they are HUGE! We have so many leftovers! Our order totaled about $53 and it was worth every.last.penny! The waiters were fabulous - they checked on us regularly without being annoying. The Fish Market | Southside is a sure bet! They have a diverse menu, lots of options, and truly wonderful staff. Highly, HIGHLY recommend you check them out. ♡

I had the blackened sea bass over rice, greens, black eyed peas and a half dozen charbroiled dino oysters. The food was seasoned well and came to the table hot. The sea bass basically melted in your mouth. The oysters were very good and very enjoyable. The greens were good with vinegar sauce. The black eyed peas were seasoned perfectly. I ate it all and was stuff. The waiter was pleasant and took care of me while I was enjoying my meal. The overall experience was outstanding.

I discovered a restaurant like no other as a 2,000,000 mile bus driver. This place is simply incredible. The food is awesome. I would recommend it to anyone incredible atmosphere whoever built this restaurant really knows what they’re doing in the food industry. Thanks for the hospitality. out of the box, Tours, and Limo Mike.

A welcoming place! Got a seat at the bar and quickly made good conversations about the food and drinks. Soo many options to choose from on the menu! The shrimp are large and fried crispy and fresh. The trout was a good size and filling. I'm really glad I happened upon this place and should I ever get back to Birmingham I shall return.

Nice seafood selection! The crab claws are my favorite! The staff is friendly, especially the bartender 😁 I rated a 4 because the night that we went there was no server to take our order in the area we sat in so we had to go to the register to order our food. They did bring it out to us though! Parking was good! Overall it's a nice place and we had a good experience!

Had a pretty decent dinner I had the lobster shrimp and chicken plate it is a jumbo style dish that comes with rice. (The description didn't say anything about rice) my wife had the full lobster 🦞. She loved it. But the the appetizer was the chargrill octopus 🐙 hands down the best we've ever had! Very tender very good!

This location ( Southside) has never disappointed! Great food , did I say GREAT! A nice, unique atmosphere, and friendly service rounded out with a store chopped full of items that can help you reach close results at home. If local , the market is not just a name, take home fresh seafood ( fish cut to your order) and get started. I personally love the tuna steak. Snapper is excellent and the grill won't disappoint, and if you've never had John's slaw give it with the sauce a try.

Wow! What a remodeling. It's been nearly a decade since I stopped in and they've finally gotten rid of the cafeteria style ordering/line. It's now your standard restaurant seating (previously a free for all) with a main bar. We were running late for a show at the nearby theater and the staff kindly rushed our order. We were in&out in 30min! Same great service, same amazing food! Loved the shrimp and grits, definitely a must-try. 👍if helpful, thanks!🙏

There's a wide selection of seafood and plenty of places to sit. You can walk up and order to seat yourself or wait for table service. Either way get prepared for a good size meal. The only downside was that the grilled fish was a bit dry. The broccoli was delicious though. Fun fact: the owner is from Greece 🇬🇷

Very friendly staff, excellent food, very relaxed atmosphere. What else to say…. Oh… right.. a glimpse of Greece in the antiques store in the restaurant. Be sure to stop by when you are in Birmingham. Try the VIP snapper. I recommend it. Thank you The Fish Market.

I took my mother here for her birthday because she has been talking nonstop about this restaurant since seeing George on some of the news shows. I have to admit that we were simply blown away by the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Our waitress was amazing and so very attentive. She answered any questions we had about the menu and was amazing about helping us pick out some of the best foods to try. I had the Maryland Crab Cake and honestly it was the best one I've had. It was packed full of large chunks of crab and the corn hash was full of flavor that married with the crab cake perfectly. I could have just had the crab cake itself as a meal, it was devine. For my main dish I had the stuffed Rainbow Trout. It was beautifully cooked and seasoned perfectly. We will most definitely be back and it has become our top favorite restaurant in Birmingham.

Looking for a place to meet-up with college buddies, we chose The Fish Market. I calld to inquire about a table for 15 and manager, Paul Berman, was quick to respond. He was super helpful in making our reservation for our lunch group. We ended up with a full table! Everyone ordered and the staff was great. And the food. Exceptional as always. The Fish Market is the best!

This restaurant has it going on all the time! Service and food is always great. Seated immediately and was waited on for drinks within 2 minutes. Drunks and appetizers were at the table within minutes. Bang bang shrimp was very good. We had seafood lasagna that was full of flavor and lots of fish and shrimp. If you order this dish make sure you are hungry because it'll easily feed 3 people. Also, the Greek shrimp platter was super good with lots of shrimp, rice, veggies. Drinks were great as well. Easy decision to return here.

I normally love the Fish Market, but I can tell that they have let go of quality. My food was bland even after I requested extra seasoning. My okra was fried so hard until they weren’t edible, and so many of the fries were rotten. My hushpuppies weren’t cooked all the way and were mushy. I would have done better going else where. I paid $25 dollars and could barely eat the food. They should have some integrity about wheat they’re serving people.

This place was awesome. My daughter took me there b/c her and her mother went last time. And waitress named Patrice I think,, even remembered her from months earlier. The place looked amazing and had a great atmosphere.

Great food as always. However, Service has drastically declined. Our waiter never checked on us, never offered refills, our food arrived after the food of tables that had clearly been sat after us and I had to go to the waiters stand myself to get my own Togo boxes because our waiter was nowhere in site for so long after we were done eating. Don’t know what’s happened up there. Use to love going there. I actually went to waffle house the next morning and the service was honestly way, way better than I had at the fishmarket the night before. Probably will just get food to go if I decide to go back.

A very busy restaurant and limited parking lot. I like the Mac and cheese. Everything was okay. My server was on point with hospitality. The decor was all over the place. They have a store and a real fish market plus take out and the restaurant. I also saw a outside eating area too.

The Paella entree that includes Mac and Cheese and Fried Pickles as various choice of sides, plus hush puppies thrown in on top. Not Michelin Star quality, but folks you don't leave feeling cheated for what you paid for...

First, service was excellent, Justin was awesome and provided menu suggestions and hospitality. Lunch was great, had the Oyster Po-Boy and was loaded with oysters and bread was fresh. Seafood gumbo had great flavor. This is a wonderful local stop in Birmingham.

The shrimp saganaki was delicious! The feta cheese on it tasted fresh and really tops off the dish. I highly recommend the Greek potatoes (w/ onions) too. The mac & cheese was creamy and a tiny step above most restaurants; nothing to write home about but not bad either. My only issue was with the service. We had to repeatedly flag down our waiter - "Randy" was on our receipt, he was a tall guy - for the absolute *basic* elements of a meal, as in utensils and napkins, after we'd gotten our food. This was on a Thursday at 3, so they weren't super busy. He could've spared a few seconds to ask if we needed anything else but he'd just speed-walk away like he had a plane to catch. It put a damper on an otherwise great experience. (Also, word of advice: Their computers apparently switch to the dinner menu right @ 3, so if you're seated close to 3, expect the dinner prices.)

Absolutely obsessed with this place! This was my first visit and Birmingham and I know I will be missing the food here when I leave. The service was so personable, the servers were great about providing recommendations, which was helpful because their menu is huge! Absolutely loved the Greek snapper and chowder. They also have Greek pottery, groceries and seasonings for sale in their market. This place is a must-try in Birmingham!
