Aston hall is a brilliant historic estate for a day out. There is plenty to see and do. There is period dress up for the children to join in with and a nice little cafe tucked away by the stables. There is plenty of garden for the kids to play in and the hall itself is astonishing. Gives real insight into the lives of the 16th century aristocracy.

We spent a couple of hours here on a Wednesday morning. It was supposed to be open at 11 but didn't open until 12noon. Its Β£10/adult entry to house and you can gift aid. A volunteer was there to introduce the first arrivals to the house which took about 10mins and was very interesting. You then take a guided tour up the beautiful oak stairs and there are info boards in each room and QR codes. The boudoir referred to black slavery and had an interesting poem with audio. We had a drink in the stable yard cafe (see pic) which is just to the side of the house. Nice coffee, cold drinks, sandwiches and cakes on offer, seating inside and outside, clean and tidy. We then visited the garden which was reasonably well maintained. A nice couple of hours here and worth a visit.

Horrible rainy day, so a good opportunity to make a visit to Aston Hall in the centre of Birmingham. What a beautiful building and a stunning oasis of bygone times over 400 years. Damaged in the Civil War, host to Charles I and later Queen Victoria. Interesting place and must have been even more imposing when it was surrounded by countryside. How times have changed. Well worth a visit with friendly staff.

I went on a Sunday and it was fairly quiet. About a 10-15 minute walk from the train station but easy to get to. The house opened at midday so I walked around the gardens, which were lovely! The staff were really friendly and helpful! If you have a student art pass card you can get free entry on the door! The house was gorgeous. There was lots of really interesting information which didn’t try to make light of how the family got their money and also the drama of the house!

So much beauty is collected here! Amazing gardens which you can enjoy for free but if you are curious for more history then you need to enter the house! It is very well kept and you can explore all the rooms. Nice coffee with nice food in the house.

I have visited the Midlands a lot over more than a twenty year period for business and family visits and had no idea until today of this place. Without doubt a real gem, a Jacobean stately residence with a very interesting history. Most of the rooms have been both refurbished and refurnished in-line with old inventories. The highllght however was a panelled 'gallery' on the first floor which also housed a very well done 'sound-sculpture'. It was quite an experience to sit there in quiet contemplation. Gardens are also very attractive. In summary a little known historical attraction, well worth a detour or a dedicated visit.

Mid week visit to Aston Hall with a friend. Started with coffee and cake in the lovely cafe, then a look round the Hall (National Trust members so we got in half price) which is gorgeous and well signed. We then had lunch at the cafe-nice menu for lunch-and then went off on the 'Around Aston Hall' walk from Birmingham Museums' Walk Birmingham book to learn more of the history of the area. Back to the Hall for a walk on the gardens. Well worth a visit.

Had a guided tour by Sir Thomas Holte from in period dress from 1643, very good indeed. Great Hall to visit, very historic surrounded by modern Birmingham. Souvenir shop, cafe and toilets. Well worth a visit, but you have to pay entrance fee of Β£11 adults.

Have driven past so many times and always thought how nice it looked. Finally visited last and was very impressed. Fantastic old historic building in the heart of Birmingham. Well worth a visit. Nice grounds and cafe too which you can access without paying, that's only for the house. Staff really good too. Knowledgeable and good to chat to.

Fascinating Jacobean hall, looks a little tatty from the outside. There was an event the day I visited so I didn't see the inside but it looks well worth a visit next time I'm in the area, though not straight forward to get to from the M6 as you have to negotiate the spaghetti junction.

Beautiful hall that’s been restored by the City Council. Ample parking, but limited opening times. It’s had a turbulent past being attacked during g the Civil War for the owner siding with Charles I. Cannon ball damage still evident! Slightly odd to get to as it’s sat surrounded by a very unattractive industrial estate. Fantastic tour guides who are super knowledgable. Team room needs a big upgrade and doesn’t compete with even a basic National Trust property.

A most unexpected visit. Considering it's age and especially location, they've done extremely well to retain and maintain the building being council owned. A lack of furniture is a shame but it heightens your experience of the architecture. Beautiful workmanship inside and out. At least I now know why the football ground's home end is called the Holte End.

Beautiful Jacobean house full of historical detail. The part played in the civil war by the hall is fascinating. The damage to the stair bannister caused by a cannonball can still be seen. The long gallery was very atmospheric. It is easy to understand why some folk believe this to be the most haunted Hall in the UK. The gardens were small but interesting. The cafe had a limited supply of food (no sandwiches just chocolate bars) so eat elsewhere before or after your visit.

Aston hall is an amazing historic hall. There is a lot to do and see at the estate. There is plenty of place and open area for the kids to play and the hall itself is surreal. It shows a good reflection into the period of the 16th century or so.

Fantastic building. Really beautiful.. All the little architectural details are great and we were lucky enough to collar a really enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide who told us about parts we asked about.. We went on the free open day and it was mental busy. I don't think they expected the numbers but the staff were brilliant and we had a great visit.. Would be nice to go when it's quieter and soak in the atmosphere of such a beautiful space..

Did the parkrun here on a cold frosty December morning. Lovely park and grounds very close to Birmingham City centre. Very attractive looking Hall but didn't go around it as it wasn't open at the time. Nice woodland area. Highly recommend a visit.

Beautiful mansion, with selection of historic interiors from different periods (XVII-XIX centuries), including kitchen and servants' areas. Characteristic smell - aged wood and museum dust, some may love it, some may hate it πŸ™‚πŸ™ƒ but definitely worth visiting.

Visited this amazing hall on a Saturday mid January. Aston Hall is a beautiful Jacobean house set in its own grounds. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Old beautiful classic English castle with interesting rooms and spaces. I recommend finding out when it is open and visiting it. It is good fun for a few hours or so. The park is also beautiful and there is parking on-site, next to the castle. It will cost you Β£10 per adult person, depending on when you visit it. The best time to visit is speing time or summer.

It's a lovely historic building bang in the middle of Aston. I visited for the Independent Birmingham Festival and so I only saw the grounds on what was a really warm day. The gardens are really well maintained, lovely landscaping and different little areas about so you could have a picnic or something. There were a few seats about but I'm not sure if these were out out as part of the festival or not. I travelled by train so I can't comment on parking sorry but it looked like there was some access for vehicles. Worth checking the opening times before travelling as they vary by season, and also depends on home games at Villa Park which is just over the road. A nice day out.

I visited that place in a rush. I was kinda disappointed because it's absolutely amazing building but only with this side. When i first saw it from the back side.. I though I was dreaming.. It's a wreck, completly and I hope some day I will back here and that place will look much better. On the other hand of course there is a fantastic park and space for playing volleyball and so on. Very potential!

Aston Hall, one of Birmingham’s most iconic buildings, is now back open to the public! The house has opened its doors with new displays that explore the intriguing lives of its residents and its vibrant history. There are over 30 rooms to explore and the surrounding parkland, including the elegant Lady Holte’s Garden, beckons visitors to take a stroll....................................
