For a historic tavern that attracts a lot of tourists, Warren Tavern has some good deals and a good variety of basic pub foods. We came in for their weekday happy hour $1 oysters and got 3 dozen oysters, city square burger, and some clam chowder. The presentation of the oysters wasn’t fancy, but their quality was as good as any other oysters you can get around the city. Both the chowder and the burger were very basic, and I liked the creaminess of the chowder. Service was superb, and they had a good amount of seatings available both indoor and outdoors. However, since they usually get crowded during dinner times, I would recommend making a reservation in advance or coming in during their happy hours on weekdays.

Good food, great chowder, cool atmosphere in an establishment that was originally opened in 1780. But we waited 15 minutes for our water, another 10 minutes for a refill, another 13 minutes for appetizers and an additional 15 minutes for our food. Our server was nice and professional, so I can't really say why the food took excruciatingly long to make it to us, it was a lot longer than we intended for lunch - two hours. They do have outdoor dining which is nice. We were inside next to the bar.

Exhausted after walking the Bunker Hill Memorial, this was the perfect place to rest and grab drinks. They have spent nearly 250 years perfecting their recipes as the food was timelessly satisfying. The clam chowder was creamy goodness, and the lump crab cakes had my wife and me fighting over them. The servers were amiable despite being super busy. The old tavern atmosphere and incredible history here make this a must-stop location.

Popped in on a Monday to see the historic place and have a drink/snack. It was 25% full at 4 and 75% full by 5. The beer was cold. The onion soup was delicious. The bartender was very friendly and welcoming. No oyster shooters on the menu, but a server brought a group everything they needed to make their own!

We went to Warren Tavern for $1 oysters, and to try their clam chowder. The clam chowder was rich, creamy, very flavorful. We weren't disappointed with the oysters either. The red chili was quite tasty too, but on the sweet side which isn't something we look for in chili. Service was good and friendly. The decaf coffee wasn't anything to crow about, but that seems par for the course at many restaurants so we didn't lower the score because of it. Our "true" score would have been closer to "4.5".

First time in Boston and wanted to experience the City. Glad we picked this place. Clam chowder and oysters were delicious along with the environment in general. Also have a pretty good beer called The UFO that I would highly recommend.

Great drinks! I had a rum runner it was great! Food was good too. The pastrami on rye is my favorite! Mussels were good but broth was to lemony, but still good!! The chowder was great too!

What a great place. Drinks were awesome, nice seating outside. Took a peak inside, I would love to put some serious pub time in here. Can't wait to come back.

We ordered apps and drinks and they were all amazing. The fish chowder was one of the best I've had. The seafood was fresh and we couldn't get enough of the oysters! The atmosphere is a very laid-back historical charm and I loved it.

Staff were super kind. As for the food, it's like a classic, homestyle diner meal. Your opinion of the chowder will depend on how you like it; it's very creamy and subtle. Impossible Burger was pretty good; I could tell that their regular burgers would have been really good and flavorful. Fries were on point -- crispy, but not burnt or charred. Portions were good. Good outdoor seating area. Only complaint would be that many of the utensils were not thoroughly washed, maybe from a dishwasher machine. One of our knives had dried tomato sauce on it, but since we didn't end up using it it wasn't a big deal.

Came here while vacationing in Boston. One of the oldest taverns in Massachusetts and one of the oldest in America. We ordered the Lobster Mac n Cheese and the Lobster Roll. Also ordered the French Onion Soup and the Clam Chowder. Our server Erika was very nice and friendly. She gave us a lot of insight of Charlestown. The food was great and music/atmosphere was superb. Definitely a cool little place to checkout if you’re in the area!

Another place that has been on my "To Visit" list for a long time. The Plymouth Plantation sandwich was phenomenal, as an article I read stated. The chowder was also excellent, and they had a very hard-to-find beer (Heady Topper, if you know, you know ..). The service was exceptionally nice, and I have a soft spot for historic restaurants. This place was great!

The food and service were both excellent! I wish I remembered my waitress name. She was very nice. We had a cup of chowder- which might have been the best I have ever had- and steak tips and lobster mac & cheese.. everything came out perfect. We will be back!

Food was great and tasty.... and of great value. Probably the better clam chowder I've had in the city. It is quite thick (you can literally stick a spoon into it and it will hold, if you get the cup portion). Only issue is that they may make a mistake with orders (got a bousin burger, when I ordered a tavern burger...no issue though...since the food was tasty either way), and check your order at the end...I got charged desert twice. But overall....a nice pub-fare and friendly service. Would come back again.

Really cool, historic tavern. The decor and furnishings have retained the history very well. Vibe a local place that the community of Charlestown like to gather. Our sever was very nice and efficient. Lobster roll and onion soup were delicious!

Words can't begin to describe the experience. This historic tavern had my wife and I actually discussing moving to this neighborhood from Arizona. First off, the clam chowder was absolutely the BEST chowder we have ever eaten, and second place isn't even close (And we're from Seattle originally where seafood better be fresh and amazing). I won't try to do it justice by using words. I think only sounds would begin to scratch the surface. I also got the, "Buttermilk Fried Chicken" sandwich and just repeat everything I said about the chowder. Now to the thing I should have mentioned first. George Washington, Samuel Adams, Ben Franklin and Paul Revere were just SOME of the greats that called this place their favorite watering hole. Oh and by the way, the original tavern that was constructed after it was razed during the battle of Bunker Hill, and one of the first buildings they rebuilt after the war ended (Rebuilt in 1780), IS STILL STANDING! You can walk on the same floors these American heroes did. Enough said. If all you did when you came to Boston was to eat dinner and have a few beers at The Warren Tavern, the trip was worth it.

A nice place in Charlestown. Unexpectedly quiet as we sat outside. I really enjoyed the wings, lemony and crispy. Cocktails were refreshing. A great place to relax after completing the Freedom Trail at Bunker Hill.

Great atmosphere. Bartenders were busy. Ordered a burger well done and got it closer to mid rare. Good wings and great chowder and crab cakes.

Been coming to this place for over 20 years, the owners keep it updated enough to entice tourists for lunch and authentic enough to make sure the locals keep coming. Excellent bar/American cuisine (try their homemade mustard!), great and friendly service, all in one of the oldest (THE oldest?) colonial taverns in the country.

Is close by to the USS constitution museum. Pleasant place on pleasant street. Service today was fab. Historical - Best known as the Founding father’s watering hole. Downing Sam Adams where once Sam Adams is known to have frequented.

Just a few blocks away from the end of the Freedom Trail, this was a great stop. It was rainy late afternoon which may have contributed to how busy it was when we arrived. We enjoyed the drinks and food.

Oldest Tavern in Boston! Food is great, ordered chicken sandwich, burgers, fries and nachos. Also got the clam chowder. Probably the best clam chowder I’ve ever tasted. Not to soupy and not to thick. It was perfect. I would go back just for the chowder!

Cozy pub with fantastic clam chowder! The menu was slightly overpriced for some items, but the food is pretty good and local. I wish the service was a little bit faster, we had to wait for water refills for quite some time.

Clam chowder was delicious and enjoyed the Caribbean chicken sandwich, especially with the side of truffle fries, as recommended by our server. Fun little joint and super close to Bunker Hill, where we had just finished walking the Freedom Trail 😊

Great classic pub/tavern food in a historic, friendly and casual setting. Fish and chips, fried clams and lobster rolls were stand outs. 😋

Honestly, I likely would not have gone here except for the fact that it was Paul Revere’s favorite place. Yes, that Paul Revere. However, I’m sure it was a bit different back in his day. There was nothing stellar with the service, although there was nothing negative. They did their job. I did not have to wait long for my food. The helping size was perfect and maybe even a little large. The clam chowder was really good and I don’t like clam chowder. The entrée I had was so so. It was rather bland, but I ate it all and it was filling.

Have visited many times when in Charlestown area of Boston. Busy almost every night, especially if Celts or Bruins are playing at home. Decent, but not huge beer selection. Excellent clam chowder, maybe the best I have had. Most recent visit I had the grilled chicken burrito bowl. Very enjoyable. Has some outside seating. Oh, and established in 1780!

trivia: The Warren Tavern is one of the most historic taverns in America. It is the oldest tavern in Massachusetts and was visited by many famous individuals including George Washington and Paul Revere. Good food and relaxing atmosphere🥂

We had a good time at Warren Tavern. It was our first visit and we got a couple drinks, Bloody Mary was good. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was decent, not the best I’ve ever had but good. The Shepherds Pie was great, it had a strong nutmeg taste in the meat, so if that’s not your thing you might want something else. Overall, service was pretty good, a little slow in the beginning but they were busy so it was understandable. Very cute restaurant overall in Charlestown!

This was my first time experiencing oysters!! They were outstanding. I had Tabasco and lemon chewed twice, the down the hatch.. $1 each... WOW Service was amazing... The short rib tacos were the absolute best that I have ever had. I dare you to try it!! You won't be disappointed.

This tavern was very cool. We went because of the history. The food was delicious. We got the soft pretzel and cheese as an appetizer, aland then a cheese burger and a chicken sandwich. We parked on the street at the Bunker Hill Memorial and walked one block to the Tavern. It was an easy walk and parking was free but you have to move your car within 2 hours of parking it.

Great revolutionary era tavern with modern day food options, friendly service, and great beer. The atmosphere was very warm and comfortable, and the food was delicious. And yes...they have a green IPA! And for the Old Fashioned lover, their Earl Grey Old Fashioned was awesome. It's a must visit if you're in Charlestown.

Lunch was great! Ordered a bowl of clam chowder and a Nashville Chicken Burger. The clam chowder was super thick and creamy. There wasn’t a lot of clams in it, which I didn’t mind too much, but then it really isn’t a CLAM chowder, is it? The chicken burger was good along with the sweet potato fries. Service was okay. Our waiter gave us too much time to look over the menu, pretty much disappearing. Additionally, when we did spot him, he was on his phone hanging about in the bar area. Overall, we would return, especially for their weekday oyster deal.

If this is the best clam chowder in Boston, Boston cannot make clam chowder. One of the reviews said they are from Seattle and know seafood, so we were keen as we are from Seattle too. The crab cakes, the haddock... none of the seafood was good by MidWest standards, let alone good for a town by the sea. Historic restaurant. Get a drink, soak in the atmosphere and move on. New England food is as good as England's.

Are you looking for a fun bar scene where you can be immersed with local sports fans? Are you looking for a variety of local drafts to try? Are you looking to try the BEST clam chowder on the East Coast? Are you looking to spend time in a place with meaningful history? You have found the spot! The Warren Tavern, established in 1780, is the oldest tavern in Boston so you can actually walk and sit where Paul Revere and George Washington did while drinking local and eating some of the best bar food that I am even hesitant to call bar food. The clam chowder was everything you want, from texture to flavor, as were the chicken tenders and potato skins (Don't laugh until you try them both! And see the attached photo...). Even the homemade mustard they sell rocked my world! In 5 (very short) days touring Boston, we went twice and the second time we even caught a Patriot's game. Whether you are a fan or not, the atmosphere was one of comradeship and good old-fashioned fun. Go for brunch, lunch or dinner and I promise you won't be disappointed!

Great little spot. The interior really does make you feel like you're in a proper English pub, or at least a very old one in Boston! Can't say I've eaten much of the menu but the soup looks incredible, and I've always had a good time drinking there! Incredibly friendly staff as well!

This restaurant was a very interesting place to eat. The aura put out here is amazing, you could almost feel the history come alive. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, especially the clam chowder! By far the best chowder I've ever tasted! I wanted to lick the bowl it tasted so good. When though it's a pub, I still felt it was family friendly.

Fantastic little joint to grab a beer (or three) after walking over to Charlestown! Pop down to a pub where some of our founding fathers sought respite and soak it all in!! The COVID restrictions are reasonable without cramping your good time: sign in, wear a mask, that's it! The extended seating onto the patio is perfect for soaking in the last few days of warm weather and the history you're in the middle of. Staff were great so were the other patrons (I stayed about 4 hours longer than anticipated thanks to Mary and Anne!😂). Ordered: Craft Oktoberfest Brew that WASN'T a Sam Adams, crab cakes, and of course, some chowder. 10/10 would recommend

I always love going to the Warren Tavern! The atmosphere is cozy, warm and local, the food is always good, and the wait staff has always been excellent. They have several great daily specials to choose from. This time I chose the fried clams. They were delicious and the individual clams were large so I was full but I was a little bit surprised that the dinner special came with only 4 clams. If you're super hungry this might not be the you dinner for you! Others in my party had a hamburger, Caesar salad, and haddock. Everyone was happy with their meals and we were too full to try dessert! We will be back!

It's a great little place to go for an escape from the normal Boston bar. It feels authentic with Irish music and strong drinks. Plenty of places to sit or stand but also got packed at points, and it's very unassuming from the outside
