Great museum and we'll worth stopping past. We visited outside a peak exhibition, so would think it would be even better during an exhibition. Spacious and well curated. Will definitely head back when an exhibition is on. Update: definitely even more spectacular during a major exhibition.

A lot of aboriginal art as you'd expect, some modern European art but not as much as I was hoping to see as I'm interested in all art not just one culture. The tours that explain the art are fab and free so definitely worth doing. You can spend as little as an hour to as long as you want here, depends on your taste. Not good for kids, please don't bring them, there's a café and there's big bag storage. Staff are very friendly.

Amazing place. I visited there twice. But couldn’t get the photos of this time. These are the photos from some months back. Great place to visit. When I went there lately, there were the show of paintings and those were from too long ago. But when I went there at first, there was the show of motorcycle collection which was from the first bike till now.

Great selection of art and a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours. The gift shop also has some classics with unique covers which can be hard to find anywhere else. Reasonably priced too. Loved visiting, would definitely go back again ☺️

The closest parking lot to the GOMA was closed in Apr-22, we just found parking in a side street nearby. Very interesting gallery, budget 1 - 1.5 hours to tour the galleries and then a little more for exhibits.

It's such a nice museum with very beautiful layouts, and the exhibition is so well presented with good commentary and background of the artwork. It's very quiet and there are staff walking around to make sure everything is well organised. There's also a little gift shop, toilets and cloak room at the entrance. The best thing is that it's free!

We bought tickets for the exhibitions on display eX De Medici and Michael Zavros which were both excellent. The gallery spaces are fantastic, modern, spacious and easy to navigate. The staff were very helpful. There is a cloak room, an excellent cafe, and a shop on site. There was only one other free exhibition which was a little disappointing but such is life.

It's amazing to skip the line with holding a membership card. Didn't expect that there could be so many people coming for the masterpieces when the exhibition is about to finish. But the layout and the interior decorations are more than much better than the one on Canberra earlier this year. Love the mirror corridor so much. It's amazing! Hope we can meet more milestones in the human's art history like these in Brisbane in the future.

It was good fun with my boy for few hours. There are many activities for kids as well. It was not busy and very well presented. Many art works were there than I expected.

Must visit in Brisbane. Fabulous facility and great exhibits. Something for everyone. Including fun interactive areas like the ‘put yourself in the frame’. Young artists catered for too. They always have fabulous kid’s areas to engage the younger audience in the art experience

Nice place regardless of weather condition. Specious, clean, modern, changes every few months. Great opportunities for yound artist and groups. Queensland Art Gallery was established in 1895 and moved to its current residence at South Bank in 1982. It was joined by the Gallery of Modern Art in 2006 and the galleries now house a globally significant collection of contemporary art from Australia, Asia and the Pacific. If in Brisbane it's nice place to visit.

As someone who loves art, I was delighted to visit this free art museum in Brisbane. The collection is impressive, with a diverse range of artwork from both local and international artists. I particularly enjoyed the contemporary pieces and the thought-provoking exhibitions that challenge traditional ways of thinking. However, compared to the Queensland Art Gallery, which is also free to enter, I found that this museum lacked some of the depth and breadth in its collection. Nevertheless, it's definitely worth a visit, especially if you're on a budget and looking for a cultural experience in the heart of the city. The museum also has a gift shop where you can pick up a souvenir to take home. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would recommend this museum to anyone looking for a dose of art and culture.

Only 2 exhibitions were free, the other two were quite expensive so we didn't bother. "Gone fishing" was free, and the indig. works diverse & exquisite. After we wandered down to the museum then to the QAG. The latter is entirely free, and we happily wandered every space. Magnificent!

One of the things Australia does exceptionally well at no matter which city you visit is investment into beautiful, well laid out and accessible public infrastructure, and GOMA is no exception. I loved being able to have the opportunity one sunny midweek morning to be able to take my teenage daughter to this wonderful free art museum in Brisbane. The collection on display is impressive, and the magnitude and solemness of the building architecture provides a very tranquil and reflective environment to contemplate the art on display. The external galleries overlooking the river are impressive and give a great view of the city and bridges. However, compared to the next door Queensland Art Gallery, which is also free to enter, I found that this gallery was quite a bit more formal in its approach and had a narrower range of exhibits and style on display. However, a must if in Brisbane and have time to explore the Southbank area. The museum has a small gift shop. Staff all very helpful and polite.

@QAGOMA (Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art) in Brisbane stands as a testament to the dynamic confluence of art, culture, and community. Located gracefully alongside the Brisbane River, its architectural splendor is enhanced by the tranquil waterscapes outside. Spanning both historical and contemporary art, QAGOMA provides a well-rounded view into the artistic evolution, making it a journey from the classics to the contemporary. The exhibitions are diverse and insightful, weaving together poignant narratives with captivating visuals. Special mention goes to their extensive collection of Indigenous art which paints a vivid picture of Australia's rich First Nations heritage. The gallery's interactive spaces cater to a broad audience, ensuring that art is more than just a visual treat, but an immersive experience. A hidden gem within the gallery is its comprehensive library. Stocked with a vast array of resources, it's a haven for researchers, students, and art enthusiasts alike. And the best part? It's accessible to everyone, free of charge. QAGOMA's dedicated team, ranging from the informative guides to the insightful curators, infuse the space with knowledge and passion, ensuring every visitor leaves with a deeper appreciation for the art. After soaking in the art, the in-house café offers a delightful respite. Serving up delicious bites with views of the river, it's the perfect space to relax and reflect. Plus, the added charm of a quaint little café corner ensures you can enjoy a quiet moment with a cuppa.

Definitely worth a visit and a must see for everyone. Displays are regularly updated and prices , if charged, are normally fairly reasonable. Great to see many paintings of our local artists in prominent places and not just moved to the backroom. Photos are attached of The Art Gallery and GOMA. Photos of the Botany display ( which was a free entree) are also posted. Highly recommended.

Came here mostly for The Soul Trembles. Highly recommend the exhibition before it leaves in October 2022. Truly a breathtaking experience. Incredibly eerie and beautiful and sad and jarring and graceful and please go see it. Left me truly depressed which might have been the point. It was gorgeous. The rest of the gallery is also lovely and we'll curated. I am especially enamored with a certain perturbing elongated furby. Lovely little gallery. Was a joy to peruse.

This gallery is spectacular. We went to see the motorcycle exhibition and we couldn't rate it high enough. A brilliant collection of motorcycles - new, old and famous. So enjoyable. There was also a great local link with a 'design your own motorcycle' interactive online activity that's pitched from a West End company. Aside from the special exhibition the gallery itself is lovely - plenty of space to spread out, great management of people during COVID restrictions, and a thoughtful children's section with interactive activities incorporating tech and paper-based platforms. Plan for a few hours it makes for a lovely morning or afternoon activity.

Great gallery experience, there is always something to surprise you. I love the building, its unconventional and I feel like I'm exploring the building as much as the art. Make sure you you find the snowman - yep made of snow! The current Grand Masters special exhibition is well worth seeing. I assume most of the special exhibitions are worths going to.

Motorcycle exhibit was brilliant. Very busy this time of year but it doesn't take away at all from the effort and hard work that's been put into this. Some of the most beautiful bikes I've ever seen and even some interactive experiences for the kids (young and old). Definitely a must a do if you're in Brissy

This is my favourite gallery/museum in Brisbane by far. It always seems to get a good set of exhibitions each year and has built a good collection for the free parts of the gallery. Kids love it, and there are always good activities for them. Great restaurant, too, but you need to book!

We visited on a Sunday afternoon at 2.30 PM. We longed for a cool drink and found the bistro. It was just lovely enjoying the end of summer with river views and a cold glass of beer and rose. Next to the exhibition called AIR. The start was a tad odd but the concept was GREAT. We discovered we have a Bodhi tree right in the heart of Brisbane. So good! Next, an overwhelmingly sad but beautiful expression of the toxicity of nuclear arms testing on Aboriginal land. Very impressive and all telling. Then, 30,000 black butterflies. Why black? We still don’t know …. Yet, then for the masterpiece “CHANGE”. Just this piece alone makes the exhibition amazing. We had a couple of drinks and olives at Brutus bar before going back home. An afternoon to treasure. XO

Stunning venue. Service was excellent. Event however will not be one I would support, sponsor or attend again or the horrendous organiser. Venue was not at all well ventilated and a guest fainted at the fresco lunch. Fans should have been supplied due to the weather. On the rooftop there should have been some fans, and everyone could have enjoyed the event without feeling uncomfortable. Catering - a tad underwhelming, as was sadly very over cooked steaks.

Exquisite. Finally got here to enjoy the cultural fusion that is APT10. The 10th year of the Asian Pacific Terrenial did not disappoint. Entry is FREE and there is so much to see with exhibitions changing every few months. Touring and special exhibitions have an entry fee but check their website for info. The children's section is massive with free activities to excite and stimulate away from the main exhibition areas. It was school holidays when I visited so it was full of children and their loved ones creating moments together. Travel to South Brisbane is very easy by train with good disability access. You avoid the stress of driving in the city and the $17 parking fee. There is a check in at GOMA and you must be vaccinated to enter. I prefer to use the cloak room and refrain from lugging around my belongs whilst viewing the art. I cannot express how amazing staff are and the joy this venue brings to my life as a culture vulture. The gift shop is stocked with books, gifts and all things arty from both exhibiting shows and well known artisans. Get out peoples and exercise your brain with the best Brisbane has to offer!!! 👏🏼🤙🏽

We had such a wonderful few hours taking in the stunning exhibits currently on display at #APT10QAGOMA GOMA 🙏 Particular favourites are displayed in my Photos. Loved the letters from a young man away at War Circa 1915 😇 I thought the way this exhibit presented each individual penned gem, ensured they were awarded the Celebration they deserved, so well done to the team at GOMA (I only posted 2 letters as they need to be seen in person) As my husband has to return to Sydney after a month here and therefore missing our Wedding Anniversary on the 23rd, we decided to celebrate 🍾 early at the amazing Cafe, in the beautiful outdoor dinning area (a favourite of mine) ❤ Then meals were delicious, mine was the snapper. One thing, a giant lizard 🦎 (bearded dragon) really took a liking to me, which caused a lot of laughter from other patrons LOL The staff assured me they don't bite, but hmmm . Perfect Day 10/10 #googlereviewer #ourworld #Brisbane

If you're going to take a day off work anytime this year, I encourage it to he ASAP...before the European Masterpiece exhibition goes back to New York. It ends on 17/10/21. Exquisite, divine, stunning! Be prepared for up to a 3 hour wait! The line is long! 1000% WORTH IT though!

Always a great place to spend the day. Great staff with outstanding professional service. Highly recommend the general entry exhibitions for those just wanting to amble. Visited the MET exhibit and had a really great time. The art was amazing and it made me happy to see such great works available to view in Brisbane. This cafe has a lovely aspect as it faces the river. The service is OK - not great but not bad either. There were hardly any customers but the table we were directed to hadn’t been wiped down. After 3pm you need to be ok with takeaway cups and plates to allow them to close by 4. We had coffee which was nice and carrot cake which was nice but tasted as though it had been refrigerated too long. Try it out if only for the view.

  • 5/5 Paul Frederick C. 1 year ago on Google
I love the exhibits artworks here, the modern art displayed is tasteful and refreshing unlike most "morderm art" in other museums which is literally trash. I also love how the galleries are setup and the flow of traffic is rather easy and the staff are really very polite and friendly. I wouldn't mind coming back here on the next chance I get to visit Brisbane

  • 5/5 Russell G. 1 year ago on Google
I went to see the AIR exhibition on a lazy Wednesday. The exhibition celebrates and acknowledges the invisible air we all breathe and that it is something we all share and need. At the venue, the staff greeted me with a smile and were very courteous and helpful. It was easy to navigate to the ticket office inside and I purchased an adult ticket which was priced fairly for the exhibition. Several different artists contributed to the exhibition and the works are displayed in different rooms, creating a different thought provoking experience as I ventured through the exhibition. If you are in the area and looking to escape the heat of the day I'd recommend visiting GOMA.

The Gallery of Modern Art is a must-visit destination for any art lover visiting the city. The gallery is located in a beautiful building and is home to a stunning collection of contemporary art. The gallery's collection spans a range of styles and mediums, from painting and sculpture to video and installation art. The works on display are thought-provoking and inspiring, and showcase some of the most innovative and cutting-edge art being created today. The layout of the gallery is well-designed, with ample space between the exhibits and plenty of natural light. The gallery also has a number of comfortable seating areas where visitors can take a break and reflect on the art they have seen. One of the highlights of the gallery is the regular exhibitions and events that are held throughout the year. These showcase the work of both established and emerging artists and provide a unique insight into the contemporary art world. The staff at the gallery are knowledgeable and friendly, and are always on hand to answer questions or provide information about the art on display. They also offer guided tours and workshops, which are a great way to deepen your understanding of the art and artists on display. Overall, the Gallery of Modern Art is a world-class institution that is well worth a visit. Whether you are a seasoned art enthusiast or a casual observer, there is something for everyone here. The gallery offers a unique and engaging glimpse into the world of contemporary art, and is a true gem in the cultural landscape of the city.

I loved the experience here a couple things the could do though is they need more interactive stuff it's really just looking at different paintings. A guy followed me and helped me and my grandmother look around. We saw some of Picasso's painting before he got into more pixelated stuff. Overall it was a great experience lots of walking but it was all worth it thank you sm art gallery

Pay attention to the date on the photos as we went only last week to find out the marvel displays are not permanently there. Only been for a while in 2016. There was another children favourite display and some arts that was okay. We enjoyed the art gallery in the museum very much just walking distance from Gallery of modern art. After these we walked down the river and enjoyed all the beauties that are there. In all this place is great for short visit.

Went to my first paid exhibition the other day- 'Fairy Tales'. There was certainly a lot to see and experience, and I really enjoyed it. It is darker in theme than I expected overall, but still great. GOMA is always a fun place to build into a day out in Brisbane!

My mum and I loved the Fairy Tales exhibition. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Exhibits were engaging and facilities were clean and accessible. I would’ve loved to have purchased something from the gift shop for my kids but found everything pretty expensive. A lovely collection of items inspired and front the exhibition though.

A little smaller than the capital galleries I've visited before but their Fairy Tales exhibition was excellent! Some very strong displays with interesting interpretation of elements we are so used to seeing in Western stories.

  • 5/5 Melissa W. 3 months ago on Google New
Beautiful gallery, staff are very efficient and kind. Buy tickets online ahead of time to beat the queues during school holidays. Fairy Tales was stunning because of the forest at the start and the dresses. Seemed a little shorter than other exhibits i have been to (took us about 20mins). Unexpected and unusual combination of art installations (Donkeyskin, Alice, Mirror Mirror, Beauty & the Beast). Due to school holidays, lots of line ups inside. Go towards the end of the day, if you want to take some extraordinary pictures in the forest.

GOMA provides another brilliant showpiece. The current exhibition, The Motorcycle - Design, Art, Desire, is fantastic. Showcasing 150 years of motorcycle design history from the first steam engine attached to a standard bicycle design through to modern road bikes and high performance rides of today. Each innovation is showcased with motorcycles borrowed from corporate, public and private collections around the globe. If you like motorcycles, innovation, history, engineering, art or design, this exhibition is worth the admission.

Yes there was a 2hour line up for the MET European Masterpiece last day BUT they made sure everyone was hydrated and looked after the elderly, the families with babies and those who might need assistance and NO ONE had anything bad to say about the staff and line up (in my area of the line anyway). In fact it was quite the opposite. Love coming here.

Brisbane's best gallery by far, but not quite world class. I've often been very impressed but I've never been blown away like you would expect to be at The Met or MOMA or another "global gallery".

Bike exhibition was terrific. Their COVID sign in processes need a bit of work.

😠 Food & Cocktails were absolutely amazing, however, the lack of service forgetting a soft drink for one of the children at our table, and then forgetting a burger for one of the adults, is unforgivable. When the wait staff told the chef that a burger was missing, he shrugged his shoulders and contin...
