Had a great visit. First time visit and really enjoyed it. My father worked at Rolls Royce in the 70s and worked on Concorde after mentioning this an amazing guide took us behind the scenes to look at one of their exhibits. We would highly recommend a visit it is highly worth it.

Nice place to go with family. Detailed museum of Bristol in ages Located at the centre of city. Harbor side. Everything kept very neat and tidy. Inside the and outside the museum lots to enjoy. Small cafe inside. Outside there is lots of cargo restaurants with dine in and takeaway. But little costly. Wine and beer also serving in the cargo restaurants. Parking.. On nearby parking places run by council, pay and display or pay by ring go app.

A great museum with a lot of exhibits about the history of Bristol and its people. Is worth a visit and entry is free. Been on the ground floor is great for wheelchair users and people with prams. Entry is free and is only 10 minutes walking distance from SS Great Britain. The cafe with the seating outside is a nice place to spend time.

This is an interesting eclectic museum about the Bristol area, its history, and its people. It is free to visit and includes a cafe, a shop, and a roof terrace with riverside views.

Visited May 6, 2019: Interesting different pieces of local history. I love the location as you can look out to the waters from certain areas of the museum, which is very relaxing, and just the overall vibe being at a docking area (no less emphasized by the towering cranes outside the museum).

I love this place. Free (donations are requested). Full of interesting items for young and old alike and slap bang in thr middle of a grest location with awesome shops, attractions and food nearby in Whapping Wharf, Millenium Square, SS Great Britain and the City Centre. Add to that the views of the city and the hustle and bustle of the harbour and you are onto a winner. Getting to catch a steam train outside, exploring the Matthew or taking to the water all adds to the experience. It is a simple must do in Bristol whether you are a local or a visitor. Part of what makes Bristol so special. One caveat - the cafe is not in my view the cheapest but there are plenty of other places nearby for food and drink.

There’s a beautiful view from the rooftop! It’s free and you can access from the 2nd floor. The museum has a great collection about the city of Bristol but the exhibition itself seems a bit old fashioned. I miss the recent facts like Black Lives Matter protest.

A spacious, modern museum that tells a lot of fascinating stories about Bristol’s past. Very easy to lose a few hours walking around here, and there are often related harbourside activities involving older technology (steam train, cranes, different boats) during the weekends in the summer months. Make sure you head to the top floor (and, if you can, on the balcony of the top floor) for a great view of Central Bristol!

Free entry to the main exhibits but not for the additional exhibitions and they recommend booking a time slot at the moment. Really interesting information all about the history and people of Bristol. Can do quickly or take longer. Definitely recommend a visit if you're visiting Bristol!

Very interesting to learn a lot about Bristol, well worth a visit. Probably a good call if you are looking for a quality attraction on a rainy day to keep the family entertained, and it is Free. Or like today, it was nice to get a break from all that heat. El Scorchio 🔥👍

Had a really lovely time this afternoon, when it's open it's a nice place to visit especially if like today it's cold, wet and windy outside

Lovely place to visit, full of the history of Bristol. Fully wheelchair & pushchair accessible, spread over 2 floors with lifts. Cafe did a great lunch at a great price. Vegan options available. We'll worth a visit, free to get in but a suggested donation of £5 can be given at any of the many donation stations around the museum.

  • 5/5 Jane W. 6 months ago on Google • 30 reviews
Absolutely brilliant place to visit. Great accessibility for wheelchair users, lovely cafe and amazing interactive displays. The shop has loads of quirky and unusual gifts available, and the museum itself works for any age and ability, a definite 'must visit'. We'll be back time and time again.

Amazing museum which hosts the history of Bristol city. Has photo exhibition on the 2bd floor which requires entry tickets. The museum itself is free entry though. Has washrooms in each floor with a beer/snacks parlor on the ground.

Great place to visit with fascinating displays and the fact that it's free to visit only makes the place better

  • 4/5 Liam L. 2 years ago on Google
Planned a visit as thought would keep the little one busy for the afternoon. Was expecting to visit the kids interactive area but due to pandemic, they no longer have a kid interactive area. Despite that, the had 2 Banksy pieces and the little one still had lots to see. Spoke to one staff, didn't get his name but tall thin fella, very knowledgeable and approachable. He made the visit more enjoyable.

  • 5/5 Christopher W. 2 years ago on Google
Vanguard Exhibition on Street art and modern art including Banksy is excellent. It us very vibrant and thought provoking. There are three short films in three areas. World class exhibition in Bristol.

  • 3/5 Jake M. 6 months ago on Google
It's not my thing. I have tried to come here a few times and it just falls flat for me. The displays are of good quality and I find pieces to be interesting but it doesn't seem to grab my attention. It just felt more like a free place to go when the weather is not good. The toilets are of great quality and I liked that there was a specific section for Muslims to wash before their prayer, that was a nice touch. It is free entry and I wonder if it's more suited for another demographic but sadly it's not my thing.

This is free! It surprised me as I had lived in Bristol for several years and didn't know that. It provides some interesting history of the different areas of Bristol, but the highlight of course is the little steam train that runs up and down outside throughout the day. Located next to a nice row of shops and cafes. Also I went during the Bristol Unicorn trail so I've attached photos of those from around the city. The white one is at M shed, the space one at Temple meads, the yellow and blue one at wake the tiger and the Bristol themed one at the cathedral.

Free to enter, although on line booking advised. Lots to see about Bristol history, some of it also I feel is of national importance. Colston statue and story fascinating. Well worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Stewart M. 2 years ago on Google
A good way to spend a couple of hours exploring so many different facets of Bristol. The excellent street art exhibition was on when I visited which was well worth the admission price as it gave me so much context to something I knew nothing about. One bit of advice - start on the ground floor, wasn't obvious to me to do so, but after I realised how much context I'd have had for the rest!

  • 5/5 Lorna M. 2 years ago on Google
I love this place. It is a great representation of the pride in Bristol for diversity and Bristol's achievements but it doesn't paint over the cracks. I was impressed with the Colston display. Even the way they had it on its side, I think was sensitive to the situation. The information on offer was balanced and impartial and there was a viewpoint of curiosity and focus on the opinions of the public as well. A great showcase.

Great museum. My wife and I enjoyed it very much

  • 4/5 Rob W. 2 years ago on Google
Some really interesting exhibits. I particularly liked the information about the Pegasus engines. Some of the interactives were not working which was a bit of a let down and some were traditional museum faire which I think could be improved, but it was good and we will likely visit again. I also really enjoyed the tea and rocky road in the cafe.

I visited from London to meet a friend. However the weather was so bad we ducked into the M Shed, but we're so glad we did. We walked through the photography display, which was very interesting and enjoyable. It was also laid out very well with sufficient room to move around and see all the exhibits, especially those of younger entrants, which were amazingly skilled. The staff are kind, helpful and approachable. There are some lovely gifts in the shop. I would have liked to buy some postcards of the exhibits, but they are only available in a coffee table book; which is understandable. Lovely open space feel despite being a museum that is not huge and they pack a lot in, but it doesn't feel constricted in any way. Loved it.

M Shed should be your to do list when you are around, first the entry is free , second it’s amazing museum place to know the history of Bristol. M Shed is spread across three floors any picture and review can’t do justice to the place, do visit. Time - 30- 120 minutes depending on your inquisitiveness.

I was really impressed by M Shed, a modern museum that tells Bristol's many stories in interesting and interactive ways. More local history destinations should be like this !

  • 5/5 Laura L. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing free museum which explores the history of Bristol's politics, culture and people. Could easily spend an hour or two in here, I think it also has some rotating exhibitions too: there was one on climate change when we visited. Well worth a visit, especially if its your first time in Bristol. Attendants were also friendly and happy to answer questions. The terrace also has a great view of harbourside.

  • 4/5 Nicholas J. 1 year ago on Google
Free entry which is good but the main exhibits when we went were about street parties, rioting and slavery which was not really of much interest to us. Aardman only have a very small exhibit currently and the statue pushed into the river is in storage. My eldest son liked the armour and sword the most. The bansksy stencil and prints were of most interest to me.

Booked my ticket (£5) a month in advance. It was the 1st time I visited Mshed. It is worth every penny. I saw displays that reminded me of old times. However I learnt about where I live. They were great about my disabilities and my needs. I could feel that they actually cared for my welfare and that I enjoyed my visit/experience. Highly recommend visiting.

Great place to learn about Bristol history. Kids loved it. Has interactive plays and lots of stop to enjoy. Easy, beautiful walk to it if you going with bus.

  • 4/5 Luke M. 1 year ago on Google
A really good museum next to the harbour with many displays. It clearly shows the history of Bristol and I still don’t know how they got a double decker 1980s bus in there. Sometimes, the steam trains from the Bristol harbour railway park up outside and you can smell the steam from inside the building. Overall, a nice thing to do whilst in Bristol.

  • 5/5 Aimee C. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely place to go with a family or for a free afternoon. They have some really interesting bits of Bristol history, including natural history, wartime and civil history. They even have a book made of a person's skin (yes, really). It's a good place to go if you want to see how big a penny farthing is in real life. Since it's free, it'd be a shame if someone lived here and didn't go to see it. Their hygiene precautions were very good and you can book tickets in advance.

  • 5/5 Andreea B. 1 year ago on Google
Great place to spend an afternoon learning about the history and evolution of Bristol (and England in general!) I love the fact that the walls are full not only with interesting things but also pictures of contemporary people - change makers, visionaries, activists, artists and so on. There’s an original Banksy on sight, the Grim Reaper - one of the oldest ones, a cool range of vintage cars, motorbikes and other means of transportation and there’s even an old red telephone box. Cool place! Excellent for tourists! Free entrance ticket and parking available nearby..

  • 4/5 Jamie S. 1 year ago on Google
Really interesting museum, but many of the interactive features weren't working. Wonderful exhibition on the 1st floor detailing lives of different people in Bristol! Affordable entry price and exhibition space entry was affordable too! Would recommend.

  • 5/5 Mark C. 1 year ago on Google
The M shed deserves 5 stars. It's free to enter and if you want to donate it's not in your face. Plenty of history and items on exhibition. There are paid exhibitions if you want to visit them. Nice shop, facilities and access for everyone. Warm and welcoming with things for young children to do. When your finished grab a coffee and take a walk along the Marina. Parking locally pair for and if your disabled or have limited mobility there is parking very close by. Free parking for motorcycles in addition. Something to note if you ride . I would recommend a visit.

Really interesting museum looking at the social history of Bristol and how it grew from its early roots. Very interactive and lots of excellent memorabilia including an old bus you can climb aboard. The grandparents in the many families there were taken right back to their childhood! If you allow up to an hour you'll cover most of it.

  • 5/5 Bill A. 4 years ago on Google
Without a shadow of a doubt simply the best museum that I've ever visited! Not only does it describe the formation of Bristol but provides a honest and transparent timeframe of key activities that occurred in the city to make it so progressive and diverse. I wish every city had one of these!

Went there for a works Christmas party. Staff and food good. Unfortunately they forgot our table when serving the main course. The one person having vegetarian was brought theirs and we waited for ours. In the end we had to ask, a good 5-10 minutes later. Very apologetic and it arrived very quickly then. I would have given 5 stars otherwise.
