Spectacular view! I visited in May 2023 when there was still snow on the ground that made the hike there a bit more challenging, but it was well worth the view. Make sure to go when it's not cloudy of course. I navigated by car to "Complexul Sportiv Național Piatra Arsă" and parked there. From there walked via the yellow-marked route until it meets the red cross mark (approximately 1.5-2 hours), which will lead you to the cross. In total it took me approximately 3 hours for each direction (would be faster without snow).

Hello beautiful traveler’s! If you’re still in touch with the nature this is a very beautiful place to visit! You have plenty of ways to get there! It’s perfect and not very difficult, you can also bring your kids ( more then 6 years of age) Plenty places to park your car, close to “ Cabana piatra arsă” and from there 2 and a half hour! Try not to go in weekend time, can get crowded!

We walked up from the base of the cable car and did the circuit to the cross. Walk was beautiful and chains have been anchored to the rocks to assist narrow and steep places. I'd avoid the walk in the rain and be warned...you might need to wait 2-3 hours for the cable car down. Take your own food and water. If we took the cable car up and down I'd only give it 2 stars, the walk up made it.

We visited the Heroes' Cross on July 1st and was pleased with the 18-20 degree temperature and beautiful scenery. We took the Busteni cable car up and hike towards the Cross taking an upper mountain trail which took us about 1 hour to get to the cross (we stop often to take photos). A few small icy parts which was not difficult to cross over on our way there. Inside the Cross is a small museum with 2 floors and the view there was amazing. On our way back, we took the "lower side mountain route" to return back to the cable car. This route was beautiful since you see more of the mountain valley and multiple "waterfall" and sheep's pastures. There was one difficulty path which was a 45 degree incline downward near an icy patch of melting snow that made it a bit scary since the rocks were slippery and loose. I'm not a hiker and wore regular tennis shoe with no hiking gear, so it's doable if you are careful and cautiously balance. Other than that, it was an easy hike back to the cable car which took us 1 hour and 20 minutes since we stop often to look at the waterfalls and took more pics !

The Heroes Cross on Caraiman Peak, situated in the Bucegi Mountains of Romania, is a towering monument dedicated to the memory of Romanian soldiers who fought in World War I. Perched at an elevation of over 2,290meters, this imposing cross stands as a symbol of sacrifice and remembrance, visible from miles away. Visitors can reach the monument via a scenic hike through the mountains, enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and peaks along the way. The Heroes Cross on Caraiman Peak serves as a poignant reminder of the bravery and resilience of those who fought for their country, making it a meaningful destination for travelers exploring the historic and natural treasures of Romania.

The cross is impressive especially if you are seeing it close. I suggest to use the normal trail path aprox 1h especially if you are with kids or senior people and not take the shortcut of Brina Caraiman trail path which is shorter but more dangerous. It requires trail shoes and mountain equipment especially in cold weather. For the rest enjoy the view. If you have some clouds passing I suggest looking at the cross & clouds at the base stairs, the sensation is quite unique :)

Breathtaking views, definitely worth visiting. We hiked here from Babele Cabin (red cross roadmark), in November 2023. It was sunny, but incredibly windy weather.

To be totally honest my group and I did not make it to the cross (we could have done it, but we decided not to). With 3 other scouts, we went for the cross on the 23rd of July, in the morning. We hiked to it by following a trail in the woods then in the mountains (a blue cross on a white sheet). It was heavily raining (like really heavily raining, it's like if we were walking in a river the whole time), so I wouldn't recommande doing it, unless you have good shoes, a good jacket and are prepared for a long long walk. It took us 3h45 to get to the Caraiman Cabin (by following the same trail). There we arrived at a crossroad : there was a path leading to the cross (1h30 more according to the sign), one to the cable car, and one I forgot where. Due to the rain, then the wind, we all were completely wet and I was freezing, so we chose not to hike to the peak. The path we followed was a difficult path, with many sections when you had to use chains/cables to help you go forward (or upward). We came across more dead people than alive ones (there were a lot of crosses at the beginning of the trail). The rain made it more difficult than it already was... We also came across a bear. Fortunately, we were able to back of and to climb on a small roof near a waterfall, then we waited for the bear to go down the valley and we went back on the trail. It's a great hike, although, I would recomand doing it with a small group (3-5 people) of motivated and strong people, especially if you attempt it under the rain. Some advice : don't take to much stuff (good shoes, a jacket, some fruit or cereal bars, water (I only drink 0,5l, but it was raining there wasn't much sun), some money (if you decide to come back with the cable car). There is a small bar on top of the mountain in case you need something (or to warm up). Have a nice one!

Takes 1 hour from telecabin to walk there if taking shortest path. Worth the visit as the view is great. Would go again with snowshoes during winter to enjoy even more.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this monument was recently renovated. It is in perfect shape and the area around is kept tidy. Another pleasant surprise was to find out that there is a small museum open to the public inside the base.

To reach the cross from the parking area takes about 2-2.5 hours one way. It is a fairly easy hike but can be extremely windy. Bring cold weather clothing even on a warm day.

I was on this tour on a Tuesday and the traffic on Transbucegi was completely free. Moreover, at Piatra Arsa there were enough parking spaces. The route time to Babele was 1 h 30 min including stops, pictures and the same time it was up to the Heroes' Cross. Please note that it takes a little effort if you do not have any training beforehand.

If you come near Brașov it's a must to go see it. It's a medium hike, nothing extreme but the view definitely worth the time!

Great landmark. One to be seen by everyone at least once. You need to have a relative good condition to reach there and a must to have the proper gear (shoes especially) I gave 4 stars because of the people, really crowded and lots of garbage around.

The platform for the cross is finally completed and provides a stunning view on Busteni. But you gotta get lucky with the weather, as clouds often surround the cross.

if you hike here stay on the path and don't take shortcuts, stay safe, the cable car is an hour away, and the parking lot for the hike is 3 hours away, conditions including fox say change suddenly

Definitely worth a visit in a nice weather. I recommend to climb a slope in a opposite side of cross. It is demanding but views are even more breathtaking. red marked trail leads there. After the climb it is very easy way up to Costila peak, almost 2500 m.

Very beautiful hike. We started from Piatra Arsa, with a small break at Sphinx and Babele. The views are breathtaking

They did an excellent job with the renovation and the location offers amazing views over the Prahova Valley resorts, you can see all the way to Paltinis and even the Piatra Craiului on on the other side of the mountains.

Excelent view worth your time. Approximately 1h walk from cable cars. Easy to follow path without equipment or practice

  • 5/5 Claudiu A. 4 years ago on Google
Great view. Nice trail. I recomand the red trail going to the heroes cross and the blue trail going to Cabana Piatra arsă. It was a real connection with the nature. When you are at the heroe's cross you get to feel the "high-place phenomenon" so try not to jump.
