The receptionist is very rude when we asked him about why they don’t answer the phone, he said you can come down and ask. The lobby is very old, the rooms are renovated but not clean at all, I took the vaccum machine by myself and cleaned the room. The only good thing is the location

The hotel location is okay but the rooms are too noisy. The cleaning service is awful and doesn’t exist! So basically they said because of Covid-19 they don’t clean rooms until you ask the receptionist!!! Bathrooms are missing basic toiletries like soap if you asked they will tell you to use shower gel what a petty!!! Is this a 4 starts hotel really! I didn’t pay for the breakfast luckily because I hear from my friends that it is not worth it at all. Make sure to avoid staying here and go to hotels that respect their guests

the worst hotel I’ve been to, the stuff isn’t helpful at all and they don’t answer any calls and they also so rude and the cleaning of the rooms aren’t clean at all AT ALL it’s so dirty, and whenever we asked them to clean it they told us the lady who clean is old, otherwise it’s not our problem that they let an old lady to clean while she can’t, should we stay in a dirty rooms for this reason? and my cousin take the vacuums she cleans the room and my dad too, we reached to this point.

The hotel is located in the centre of Budapest, within walking distance from all major landmarks and opposite to metro, tram and bus stops. Plenty of restaurants all around. It has kept the antique atmosphere since it was built in 1914 which l personally liked very much. We have read that there is lots of filming taking place occasionally due to this. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only issue was that the toilet seat wasn't clean upon arrival which was a bit put off that's why the 4*. Other than that, it is a great option for staying in the city.

The hotel is old liberty style as I like and is very well positioned just nearby the metro. It has a great potential but it feels the age. There are several interventions which could be done to improve the guest experience. The breakfast is decent and my only comment is about the juices, diluted in too much water. The cleaning was every day and we had the bathroom towels changed every day. The staff was always available and doing professionally his work, without exceeding emotionally. I deeply encourage the management and the staff to keep alive this legendary hotel in Budapest.

The location of the hotel is great. The metro is just less than min away from the hotel. There are lot of restaurants nearby which is very handy. It is an old building in the city which is a plus. The rooms are big. The staff are really nice and professional. Plenty of choices in breakfast. Although the room is big which we loved but need some modernisation. Also we were expecting some tea and kettle in the room. However, overall it was a nice stay for us for the last four days apart from few downsides.

I stayed at the hotel for 3 days (1/6-4/6/2023). The main reasons for this choice were 1) location, 2) the 4 stars. However, in order to be a 4-star hotel, there are some requirements that need to be fulfilled, for example a clean change of bed daily (sheets etc.). That didn't happened, ever. They just made the bed and there was only a bath towels change. There was also dirt and dust under the bed, plus the outside of the windows. We could see that the moment we opened them. The carpets inside and outside the room (3rd floor) were old and stained. So, I wasn't satisfied with the cleaning service standards (since it's a 4-star). Other necessary facilities that weren't provided: no slippers, hands- cream soap (there was just one used, but no cream soap), and empty fridge (a 4-star hotel should have 2 bottles of water, at least) Furthermore, the breakfast was one of the worst I've ever had and it costs 15€/ person. ‎The croissants and bread were staleness, at least 5 days old. How could you serve that to people? Not only unhygienic, but also rude. Apart from that, the choices were low-quality and tasteless. Not the European kind of breakfast I was hoping for. Nevertheless, the service of the hotel was pretty good, really polite and helpful staff at the reception. I couldn't say the same for the Café Astoria Restaurant staff, although it's considered a different facility.

Maybe it was bad luck. My shower water was cold and I complained. They brushed off and said that was how it should be. Then I complained again and they transferred me to next room. The drain clogged and water flooded the whole room. I left the room for them to fix, hardwood floor was broken as well. I was too tired to complain anymore and dealt with it

Recently stayed here on a business trip, ideal location for bars and restaurants, after a long day in the office you don’t always feel adventurous so it’s great to have loads right on your doorstep. I was fortunate enough to have some time for sightseeing and it’s only a 7minute walk from the ferris wheel in the heart of the city. The airport shuttle stops right outside the hotel, much more convenient than a taxi and a tenth of its cost too, it cost me less than £5.50 for a single from the airport in April 2023. Sometimes housekeeping visited late in the day, which was fine since I was at the office, however they didn’t always replenish the empty shower gel / shampoo or toilet roll. I stayed in one of the newer renovated rooms, decoration was very much to my taste. I really enjoyed this hotel and would stay here again.

The hotel location is perfect. Walking distance from so many things. Hotel belongs to another era (which I liked) and is a bit tired (didn’t bother me) but rooms are a nice size the front desk staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is as weak as the coffee that comes from a machine. I’m not a complainer but at the price they charge you can get a smaller but much better coffee and breakfast all over Budapest. Rooms aren’t always tidied so carefully. Used cups not always taken away and replaced. Ditto Kleenex. But once I asked, the housekeepers did it no problem. I still like this hotel. But I’m starting to wonder if there’s better nearby.

The location of the hotel is 5 stars for sure. The hotel is lavish and the rooms too. It’s an old hotel so it smells a bit woody and the ac were not that effective. So, if you are going in summers keep in mind. The front desk and breakfast staff is very friendly but the restaurant staff is kind off old fashioned. Restaurant staff was a bit biased I felt. In addition, there is not many food and drinks options in restaurant.

Rooms are spacious, breakfast buffet is great, location excellent. My sister had some problems in the room with a smell that I didn't notice, that affected her allergies. Besides that, good value for the price.

  • 4/5 Tolga F. 9 months ago on Google
Amazing location, kind and helpful stuff, poorly air-conditioned rooms. AC was vital for this hotel since it is located literally on a junction, so you cannot open the window all the time.

Very nice hotel with pleasant staff. Good selection of items for breakfast and some nice cocktail deals also. Very centrally located. Beware that there are three of these hotels in Budapest with the same name. It can cause issues if you get a taxis back to the hotel. Make sure it is the correct hotel you tell the driver.

The location is very good with very good access to public transportation. Clean and polished, but with some elements that should be renewed. Friendly and professional service. Overall a good place to stay in Budapest.

I wanted to love this hotel, but it's old fashioned not in the good kind of way. Run down and in need of repairs, needs to vastly improve on cleanliness. Our suite was a wonderful size, but just so dirty and in need of maintenance. Such a shame because the building has so much potential.

The hotel itself is situated right on the main street, leading down to Elizabeth Bridge. There are plenty of shops and restaurants and bars well within walking distance. The breakfast is a good way to start your adventures for the day. The only down side was it states when booking a city view...well if looking at a brick wall in a well is a city view then thts fine, but it should state selected rooms only. As not Al the rooms will have a city view. Other than that was great place to stay. Though could have more English channels on the TV when you want to relax before heading back out or if you fancied a night in.

Hotel is very traditional in architecture and furnishing, however unlike many city hotels of this type, it has been maintained in excellent condition and modernised sympathetically where needed. Room furnishings all of good quality without the usual signs of wear and tear. The hotel staff could not have been more helpfull nor more pleasant. Breakfast always of good quality and good selection, including a made to order facilty for omlettes etc. Although the hotel interior was of a high standard, the two adjacent hotel entrances were not very noticable, one of these was possible to confuse as a jewellers shop. The location is good at a busy city centre interchange offering different public transport options. Sound insulation in the rooms was good and only infrequently passing emergency service vehicles could be heard. Many restaurants and shops are within a 10 minute walking circle.

Prime location and easy access to bus/trams/metro. Large and spacious rooms. Friendly and helpful hotel staff. Breakfast is available for 15 EUR for an adult.

  • 5/5 Sean M. 5 months ago on Google
Great location, the airport express bus 100E drops you right across the street from the hotel. Everything is within walking distance or easily accessible by public transportation. Friendly staff and nice rooms. I stayed in room 417 and my only complaint is there were 2 nights where I could hear someone talking in an adjacent room which woke me up, so the wall was a bit thin.

We arrived at the Hotel on Monday 11th December. I found the staff to be helpful and checkin was quick which meant we could get out for some food as the facilities were closed and there are no tea or coffee making equipment in the room, which was disappointing. We found the room to be warm and spacious. The bathroom was tired with mould on the shower tiles and hair on the floor which obviously had not been cleaned properly. I left it till the following day to find the hair still there. One evening we returned at 2140hrs and thought we would go to the bar and restaurant for a coffee to be told we could not be served as there was a computer problem. Rubbish, it was obvious the staff had cleared up and couldn't be bothered. On a positive note its nice to stay in an old authentic hotel with nice features and architecture, right in the middle of the city with everything close to hand. This is why we chose to stay here away from a modern hotel but you let yourselves down. I never read any reviews before booking it, but I has since and see that there are similar complaints. Please read and up your game. Be better.

Horrible experience. We arrived to our room just to find it extremely dirty, with broken furniture and holes in the walls. Their excuse was that it was an old hotel. They changed us to another room that was a bit less dirty than the previous one. The bedsheets were dirty, we found some what looked to be lipstick stains all over the them and found mold in the bathtub. We stayed 3 nights and they didn’t clean our room. They would leave the beds undone and the room as we left it. We kindly asked if it was normal and if they could please do it. We left our room for them to have time to do it, we came back and the beds were still undone and dirty towels were still there. To top it all off, we were sick after eating the breakfast buffet. They denied giving us paprika during breakfast as it was not included in the buffet. To be honest, it has been one of the worst experiences in a long time. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Exceptional location - near shops, restaurants and transport. The hotel is very well kept. Walls are a bit thin - I had a problem with the guest sleeping in the room next to mine who kept me awake with his horrific snoring. But I spoke to reception the next day and they were able to put me in a different room. Staff are nice and the hotel is very clean. Would recommend.

DO NOT BOOK THERE! I'm from Israel and few months before the War that started at my country I booked a trip for 6 days and booked the Danubius Hotel, My flight was cancelled due to the war and the hotel charged me for all six days. This is unacceptable and so not human of them. For this time that I need my money more then ever I strongly advise others to stay away from this hotel.

Fair location and generally ok as hotels go, but someone had plainly been smoking in our decent-sized and modern bedroom, in spite of it being a non-smoking hotel, and when we asked reception to do something about the stench of smoke that pervaded the bedroom, all they did was send a cleaner who just sprayed a little air freshener by the door, not even in the main area of the room. Totally ineffective and a waste of time, I can't imagine why she thought that would help. (And it's no good opening the window when it's -4C outside.) The smoke stench ruined our stay that night but at my insistence, they moved us to a truly smoke-free room for the second night. So that redeemed their room's star rating but not their service rating - definitely in need of more empathy there.

Hotel is in a very central location and is classy looking. Rooms are spacious with huge comfortable bed. Little fridge is a bonus. Bathroom has a hair dryer. Only small concern is that the shower is over the bath and it would be difficult to get in with mobility issues. Clean, friendly staff on reception and in restaurant. Plentiful buffet breakfast to set you up for the day. Right next to the metro, trams and bus. Airport bus stops about 400m down the road. Hotel is on a busy junction but the shutters in the room blocked out a lot of noise.

The location of this hotel was great! The distance from public transport was all within walking distance (10-20mins but as you're looking around and talking it felt like 5 mins). Check-in was smooth; we arrived about 3 hours early but as our rooms were ready we checked in/were allowed in our rooms there and then. Although we asked for extra bin liners (they were tiny) and they were more than happy to provide us with extra I'd probably say take your own larger ones if there are more than two of you sharing (I shared with my mother). They gave us extra towels, we even ran out of hand soap as it looked as though it wasn't topped up upon arrival but again everything we asked for was provided with a smile. The housekeeping staff were easy to talk to. We stayed in the newest part of the hotel so our view was of the city. Rooms were well lit (a lot of light options), spacious, clean, so many storage space, little fridge, the stand in shower was enormous (!!!!!), everything made our stay extremely comfortable! Breakfast was included and there were more than plenty to choose from. There's a gift shop behind the reception but it wasn't the tacky usual gifts, definitely worth having a look. Elevators were quick. My mate stayed in the oldest part and had a view of a wall 😆😆 I would definitely stay there again 👍🏽

It's a gorgeous hotel. But get a room that is not on the street side. The windows are quite old and do not insulate at all. If you can sleep with earplugs, then no worries

The location is fantastic, right in the city centre, very close to the Jewish Quarter. Walking distance pretty much everywhere. The hotel is one of the oldest hotels in Budapest. The rooms and common spaces are extremely dated, bathroom is extremely simple and old as well. Definitely not a 4*. Max 2* compared with standard around Europe. We went for a birthday weekend as a party of 10. Some of the guests have complained there was no AC in their rooms. We were offered an upgrade to a superior room, however l'm not so sure what was superior about it. It was smaller than a standard and completely dark since the window faced a wall of another building, which was literally at a hand's reach. That was pretty disappointing so we took the standard room as originally booked. There on the balcony we found an old bottle of water full of cigarette butts... The area is very busy and noisy so expect loud music and street noise until late at night as well as very loud garbage trucks early in the morning.

Total dive. I booked this on booking.com and found out when I arrived it had shut indefinitely. At least they could have informed me in advance so I could have made an alternative booking. Total bs

If there’s one thing we could change about our time in Budapest it would be the hotel. Rooms were not clean and very dated (not in a charming way). First room we got smelled of smoke, even though marked as non smoking. We switched rooms immediately and the staff was helpful. Second room had leftover empty bottles everywhere and our duvet was stained. Also ac didn’t work - when we asked the staff we were told to open the windows. This hotel is on a noisy Main Street. It’s super noisy with windows open even at night. Anyway we powered through our stay. But wouldn’t be able to recommend it.

Location is perfect, rooms are quite cozy and with comfortable beds, the only problem was constant traffic on a street under the room windows, all togheter a nice place to stay

  • 5/5 Kristina H. 1 year ago on Google
The hotel was clean, had friendly staff and we were able to store our luggage on our day of arrival since we arrived at 10am. We also stored our luggage when we checked out since the airport hotel check in wasn't until 3pm. Breakfast had a nice variety of items. The coffee machine made cappuccinos, lattes, and a variety of other coffee drinks. We had a balcony in our room and the room was clean and spacious. The location is great and the metro, trams and buses were just steps from the hotel. We would stay here again when visiting Budapest!

Outstanding location with great service in a historic building in central Budapest. We were able to walk just about everywhere from the central hotel. Breakfast buffet was good with some traditional and local items.

Great location and room is clean. No parking but there is one garage close by and it costs around €18 for 24h. No minibar in the room... But one thing I hated is that you have sing up to the news letter emails if you want to use the WiFi. It really sucks that they impose that!

Fantastic hotel steeped in history and elegance. Great central location. Lovely staff who go above and beyond to help. Reception staff very helpful with booking taxis, giving advice and recommendations. Even printed my boarding passes for us at no charge. The gentleman and his trainee who checked us out this morning was extremely , polite , helpful and professional, a real credit to the hotel. We have travelled the world and it’s not often you find a gem of a hotel with amazing staff like this ! Thank you so much for everything .

It was very nice and beautiful hotel to stay. Staff and Manager in the reception are so kind and helping. Room service was good .Important point is location of this hotel is super citycenter so it was easy to reach all the tourist attractions.Overall we had very good experience in this hotel.

Nice located and nice looking rooms. Relevant staff helps with everything. If you have car, dont park it to location that directed by hotel couse it s too expensive like 20 € a day. You can find cheaper than that like 7 € a day around great market. Check it from google maps.

Our stay was so lovely, the staff were very accommodating. The rooms were fantastic and there is a room at the top floor for ironing. Just be careful with the showers, the design can make them easily flood the floor. Location was spot on, so central to everything.

Great location and friendly front desk staff. Breakfast was good and huge dining area with a good selection of breakfast. Cons: The bathroom needs some soap Lobby can be redecorated to make it more welcoming.

Centrally located hotel with excellent service, ambience, food and everything. We loved our stay at Danubius Hotel. Tram, Bus, eating joints, nightlife, shopping everything is easily accessible from this place. Highly recommended for tourists coming to Budapest.

Hotel location is very good. Rooms are nice and Breakfast is very good. But the main let down was the front desk/reception staff. Front desk/reception staff were very friendly and have no time to answer our questions or help us. They are always busy and dont have time. for this reason I may not come back to this hotel and will not recommend it.

Great price, location, service, and shower pressure (important, right?!). This is an old European style hotel with beautiful ornate decor. Simple, but classy. No silly over the top fancy luxuries, but I personally don't travel to a city like Budapest to sit in a hotel. Perfect location. The hotel is walking distance from some of the best sights in the city, and it's also only a 5 minute walk from the 100 bus, which means getting to and from the airport is a breeze. All of the staff was extremely friendly and professional, often going above and beyond. I give it five stars and highly recommend it to any traveler looking for that charming, old European experience.

The Building tells you immediately the charme of the 1930's. The staff welcomes you very friendly as soons as you enter the hotel. The stay was nice. The breakfast was ok. We had as well dinner one night, which was good. The rooms are clean but especially the bathrooms are very used. Overall the hotel would need a renovation of the rooms. For a weekend stay at Budapest I would nevertheless recommend the hotel well located in the city.

  • 3/5 Panagiotis K. 1 year ago on Google
Very convenient location, literally above a central metro station, and in a walking distance from the airport bus. Polite staff. The reception room a bit behind the times. The breakfast buffet is decent. The wifi is of good speed and credible. My room was a bit old fashioned. The worst part was that the room was very noisy; was waken up earlier than 7 am every day from the service elevator, the staff etc.

  • 5/5 Anna Emese C. 9 months ago on Google
We had a lovely experience, went there for a little quiet time with our dog. Everybody at the reception was super sweet and helpful, we asked for a room that didn't face the busy street, it was absolutely perfect. All the rooms, the hallway, the lounge were beautiful, the place has its charm. Definitely not for people who are looking for a modern, minimalistic hotel. Unfortunately, we didn't try their café/restaurant, but it looked good.
