All I can say I am fortunate enough to have medical aid. In cases of emergency I am grateful to be able to have access to proper medical care and not the medical care the Government offers. It is appalling. I went to the hospital over the weekend to see my sister and regardless of the bad history between us she was at end of life. I had to tell the attending doctor that she is dying and asked if she was on morphine and his response, well she should be. I told him to check and if not to put her on morphine to make her last hours comfortable and pain free. He then suggested to the nurse to give her paracetamol. I told him to give her morphine. This whole experience has confirmed one thing, the Government would rather line their pockets as opposed to looking out for those less fortunate and destitute, and in need of proper medical care. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to afford the astronomical expense of a decent medical aid.

My 2 year old niece had an asthma attack at the Sea Point Pavilion pools and was taken to New Somerset Hospital for medical care. While her mom was in emergency with her we waited outside. Someone's phone went missing in the emergency unit and the unit was searched. Everyone was body searched together not privately, male and female by security. The nurse proceeded to say that my niece's family, which was us sitting outside looked suspect. We weren't even allowed inside the emergency unit but we were accused. Nobody could leave the emergency unit unless they find the phone. Our bags were searched outside! I was humiliated and very upset. Our day was cut short due to an emergency only to be accused and treated like thieves by hospital staff! This is not on! That is not a police station! They were more worried about a missing cellphone than the sick people in the unit. What a bunch of idiots! Security and nursing staff. If you ask me it was one of the staff that took that phone.
