“ RUDE STAFF PUSHED ME OUT” On my 3rd night at the place, the night receptionist “Joe” said that I can’t sit in the reception area to work. I was there because the wifi was not working in the room and the receptionist in the day time had said that it was okay to sit at the reception to work since that was the only place the wifi was connecting. “Joe”without listening to me got agitated and threatened to call the police on me without giving me a chance to explain. He pushed me out of the premises without allowing me to get my luggage which had my passport. He cancelled my stay and they did not offer any remedy or refund. I had to scramble at 1am in a foreign country to find a place to stay the night. It was only the next day that they let me collect my stuff, asking me to write an apology if I wanted to continue my stay. I reiterate that I was always respectful and merely wanted to sit at the reception to work because the room they provided did not have wifi, a facility promised at the time of booking.

The WORST hostel I've ever stayed in. The only good thing was the location as it's right on the main street. Other than that, it didn't at all match the description/photos online. 1. The room didn't lock so it was left open the entire time. At one point in the night someone that we believe to be a member of staff but not certain entered the room, stared at us all in bed and left again. 2. We booked a 6 bed dorm but they added an extra mattress to the floor for a 7th person so it was overcrowded giving us no room for luggage and was a terrible bed to be given. 3. It didn't match the cabin style beds as advertised and looked nothing like the photos. 4. There were no curtains on the beds as described, no lockers in the room (since the door was broken there was no security for personal items), there wasn't a plug socket for every bed as described. 5. The hostel seemed very money hungry with charges for absolutely everything. There were the standard charges like for luggage storage, towels, washing machines/dryers but there was also a charge for £5 to use the kitchen which I have never experienced. 6. The WiFi didn't work which is important to clarify before booking as I was supposed to be working remotely. Also, a man entered the room to "fix" the WiFi but left without doing anything. (Staff seemed to be constantly entering the room for no reason). 7. They advertised 24 hour reception but in reality it is 10am to 6pm, leaving no security or assistance outside of those hours. 8. The bathroom and dorm rooms weren't clean. We were in the room while a member of staff cleaned the other beds and they didn't do anything other than put new sheets on the bed. 9. They have an award displayed on the wall but I am fairly certain it is fake. I strongly advise avoiding this place.

Stayed over a week due to waiting for my new property to be renovated. Unprofessional staff on sight (jo) Paid for a room as advertised and was put in the cheaper room which they dont post pictures of for obvious reasons (descusting) (smelly) after being told my room was full after spending over £100 I would expect some sort of common curtesy. I.e similar room with privacy curtains USB and reading light (monies worth) I was Woken up at 3am by drunk "room mate" who brang a street worker into the room who later threatened me. Unable to return to sleep and very uncomfortable in the room I resided to the room which I was told was full but to my surprise was empty. No response from staff after explaining via WhatsApp Very Very disappointed and highly regret my stay cleaning staff member needs to do better Bunk house is just a couple doors down which is cheaper and in my opinion is run better for paying guests in mind.

I’m not really sure why there are quite a few 1 star reviews. People complain about mold or dirtiness, but this accommodation was very clean to me. I was staying in Room 8. Both the room and the bathroom were quite clean, not perfect, but definitely not dirty and as a germophobe I felt comfortable. People complain about weird guests or management, but everyone missed their own business. This was the best hostel I’ve stayed in in terms of management, as I didn’t have to speak to anyone. You check in with their code and you check out without talking to anyone again - you just leave. Because of this you are allowed to check in throughout the night as they just give you a code to use, so I was able to move in it at 2am. Finally, this place was fantastic for other reasons: full curtains (but for one of the beds in Room 8 it isn’t full), charger ports, clean and working shower, and a wonderfully consistent “vintage” aesthetic which I really liked. Also, the price was the best one in Cardiff we could find. Please remember to bring a padlock though because their lockers don’t have any. I think you can pay for storage, but that isn’t worth it ideally.

Perfect location, very little staff interaction as not really required. Rooms are clean and tidy. The shower was a little disappointing on the top floor, pressure and temperature. For the money, a good experience. Would use again if needed.

Honestly. Better than what I expected. Receptionist Rami was awesome. Such a friendly lad. Clarified all the instructions in relevance to the hostel. Made sure I am settled and that all is good. Place was very safe. Beds were clean and organised. They ensure that you stay quiet late night so the others wouldn’t get disturbed. Best of them all is the location. Couldn’t have booked in any better hostel and I’ve been to many. Would definitely come again!! :)

Very comfy beds, practical installations and helpful staff. Not exactly the option if you’re looking for a glamorous stay, but definitely worth the price. Didn’t run into any of the trouble mentioned in negative reviews.

Central location. But the entire interior was poorly kept - very dirty with foul odours. Given the rates paid and my experiences at other hostels, I would advise avoiding this place.

Got there and they’ve just put me in a basement room (which I did not book) that room was no better than a group prison bunk. (Broken windows, exposed piping, smelly) made me pay extra to get into one of the rooms they advertise, which was in an awful state, (cracked window, moldy window, ancient mattress, floors falling apart). Staff were also unprofessional and combative when I voiced concerns. Desperately needs updating

Disgusting experience, from blood on the walls and on every blanket and bed too waking up to finding a member of staff staring at me, absolutely vile place, I even found a bottle of flem in a draw( which was also full of trash) I slept in a van the night before in -7 weather and honestly had a better sleep. Screw this place it's rancid (Joe is great though keep up the good work brother)

The hostel is very welcoming and quirky in design. The receptionist was friendly, however my mattress in room 7 was rather lumpy and uncomfortable. The bathroom facility was alright, but nothing special. I liked how the communal kitchen was laid out, but the breakfast options were quite limited. I only stayed for one night and overall, if a few improvements were made, then I would recommend this hostel.

I checked into the hostel on a Friday evening with no issues. The room was quite dirty and a bit smelly, but I was not expecting much at this price. It was a bit concerning given the current issues with bedbugs in the UK. As a precaution I hot washed and froze my belongings when I got home. I returned to the hostel alone in the middle of the night and was locked out. No one would answer the door or any of the phone numbers provided. All of my belongings were in my room including my allergy medication. This left me in an unpleasant and potentially dangerous situation. The manager of the hostel has not yet responded to any of booking.coms emails who are refusing to refund me for this stay or the alternative accommodation I was forced to book, until the manager has confirmed the issues. Overall I would not stay here or recommend it to anyone.

Welcoming hostel with super helpful staff. Showers clean, room warm and bed okay. I asked for a room change at about 11.50pm due to a loud snorer. As they had space, this request was promptly accommodated. Breakfast included and they let me sit in the foyer after the checkout time, before catching my train home. Would recommend.

We booked for 2 nights but ended up leaving after 1 night The door to the room didn’t lock so anyone could come into the room. I watched a male walk into the female dorms because the doors were all open We came back at night and the room next to us was wide open and smelt of cleaning products and chemicals and all the mattresses were in one of the shower rooms and after reading recent reviews found that this is due to bed bugs One of the other guests in our room had no sense of respect for other people, she came in at 2am and turned her hair dryer on and was talking on the phone. She also had bags all over the room and had left bowls and bags of food around the room and treated the room as if she lived there. My friend put her things in the locker under the beds and when she pulled her coat out in the morning there was a sticky cardboard mouse trap stuck to her coat which is now ruined.

I had a lovely stay at Mrs. Potts in Cardiff! The hostel is very centrally located near various amenities (places to eat, supermarkets, the Castle). It felt safe as the hostel is accessed by a pin code entry on the front door, and the rooms are also individually coded (the codes are provided prior to arrival via text message). The shower facilities were clean, and the bed linen was lovely and fresh. The decor in the rooms is very cute, with each bed having its own curtain for privacy and a plug point with USB ports in each bunk. There is additional storage under the beds for your belongings, which you can choose to padlock closed if you're concerned about security (padlocks can be purchased from reception for £3 if required). The wifi is reasonable in the rooms (I stayed in a female dorm, room 3) but a bit spotty in the reception area. The proprietor, Joe, is very friendly, as were the other staff (Tyrez and a lovely lady whose name escapes me!) as were some of the longer term residents (Mike). I only knocked off one star as the mattress was unfortunately very uncomfortable - I could feel the springs digging into me all night - so I eventually elected to sleep on top of my duvet which improved things significantly. The kitchen facilities are also different to how they may have been previously pictured online - there is no longer a large kitchen with seating, rather a small room with microwave, kettle and a mini fridge along with some basic cutlery, cups and bowls. This did nothing to dampen my experience as I only really used the kettle, but I felt it worth mentioning if you were expecting a full kitchen with free breakfast items as shown in older reviews. If you'd like a friendly, reasonably priced place to stay in Cardiff city centre I would highly recommend Mrs. Potts!

Extremely well located, the pod bed's are not bad, there's light, USB and plug to be used. The location couldn't be better, almost at the castle door and nearly in front of the market. All amenities at your door. Supermarket is next door. All pubs on the same street. It can be noisy for some but for me it was great. The shower is not bad at all, this was a surprise!

Joe (our host) placed us in a room with six bunk beds. Each bed had two USB ports, one electric socket, and a light switch for a private light. The bunks were well made and thorough clean. We had great privacy as we were the only two people staying in this six bed room. All of this combined with the remarkably decent price per person per night makes staying in this accommodation something that I would be overjoyed to do again in the future. Screw the hotels, it’s Mrs Potts every time from now on!

So I wanted to use kitchen. Just for sitting there and drinking something. And they wanted £5 money for this. Money just for sitting at kitchen, just sitting.!! I said I never use . it is not a joke. Also i wanted to put my bag until my bus time, they wanted extra charge for this as well. They are not helpful.. . !!

Having spent a number of months backpacking through South America, my tolerance level for marginal hostels is pretty high. It must however be said that comparably even the most Billy-basic hostels in the Bolivian backwater are almost Ritz-like compared to this place. At £90 a bunk bed per night (I get it, the rugby was on - supply and demand - economics in its most basic form) you’d think some form of luxury might be afforded to you. Alas not even the beds were made up. Instead my amigo’s and I were greeted with a bare mattress, bare duvet, bare pillow, and the disappointing promise of some late Saturday night DIY. Hard to bear. What I initially mistook for a water feature downstairs ultimately revealed itself to be a toilet so swollen with urine, the only visual metaphor that one could compare it to is the Amazon river basin during a heavy rain season. And the plumbing certainly maintained that same level of consistency, as I stood ankle deep in the shower tray, worried that my Achilles’ tendon may be severed by a piranha or cayman at any moment. Safe to say I’ll be giving my tootsies an extra scrub-a-dub-dub when I get home this evening. Kind regards

Besides the location and staff. There is nothing I can recommend for. The location is wonderful, just in the center of the shopping and entertainment area. The staff is nice and friendly. I don’t stay in hostel often, but this is my first time seeing that there is no curtain or blind for each bed. I think it’s ok for short stay(1 or 2 nights), but not suitable for long stay. Anyway, it’s cheap, so what you pay is what you get. I stayed in room 1, which has 3 bunk beds, you can find somebody has shared the picture below.

Overall a nice hostel and facilities are clean. One major issue is that the kitchen is only open from 10am. I left my food in the kitchen overnight as I did not realise this and was leaving the next morning before 10 so couldn’t get my food. Reception also only opens at 10 so there was no one I could talk to about it. Very disappointing and a very simple fix!!

Avoid this place at all costs. We arrived at this hostel at 12pm and was advised our room would be “ready” at 2PM. To say our room was an absolute disgrace would be an understatement. The bed sheets had been folded over to give the illusion that it had been changed. However they clearly had not been changed as there was pubic hairs all over the duvet and bed sheets. The room was filthy with rubbish left behind by the previous tenants and had chewing gum stuck to one of the beds. This company also operates a strictly no refund policy. When refused a refund, the man in reception was so kind to offer us free use of a towel for the mouldy showers as compensation!! The smell throughout this place is also horrific. The rooms are also quite damp which makes one wonder if they are being ventilated correctly. Given the price, the facilities are not an issue however a basic level of hygiene should be expected in any kind of hostel. Sadly this is not a priority for this company.

For the price this place is quite nice for short stays. There is no curfew, so it's easy to come and go as you please. The beds were comfortable, and the curtains on each bed gave a good sense of privacy. There is a lot of noise from the bars outside. The rooms are basic and the coat hangar was broken, coming off the wall completely, leaving our clothes on the floor. People were also allowed to sleep in the living area which had other guests quietly standing around in the dark while having morning coffee. Overall, you get what you pay for, and the inconveniences are bareable to save some money.

I was pleasantly surprised by the good quality of accommodation and friendliness of staff after reading so many poor reviews. I am moving to Cardiff and the staff have been nothing but accommodating and kind to me, helping me extend my stay at a discount while I figure out an apartment. I’ve stayed in both the all female dorm and the mixed dorm, all the rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard, the bathrooms are clean and if you stay for 2 weeks or more the kitchen and laundry are complimentary with stay. I would 100% recommend the hostel to any travellers, don’t be put off by the bad reviews, I’m glad I wasn’t

I can say dirty place ..not good pressure on the. Shower and cold water in January ...tragic .. Also radiator didn't work even for a minute ... The place was freezing .. Saturday night you can't sleep because it's so central and are drunk people around shouting and signing and staff like that ..

Pros: Hostel is in a great location in the centre of Cardiff town. Really easy to get to and not far from the stadium. Excellent price for a single night. Met a cool friend who was staying too. Staff was nice and friendly. The decor is different, in a cute and surreal way. Cons: The rooms are a little outdated and could do with a bit of extra deep cleaning, but are otherwise very good - you get a charger in your bunk bed and curtains for privacy. The pillows are very thin and I had to fold one over to sleep properly. You will need to provide your own padlock. Staff didn't know there was a Timpsons just opposite the hostel, it was about £5 for a decent padlock. My wrist key didn't work first time so had to have it reprogrammed. The shower unit was falling apart a bit and there was a lot of leaking on the floor so does need fixing. Breakfast is very basic (potted cereal or toast) and you need to clean up after yourself. The handle fell off one of the cups so had to clean everything up ourselves.

It had its pros and cons. Very central location, perfect for exploring the city. Easy to come and go as you please. When we got there there was a problem with our booking but the staff was very nice and managed to get us in a room still. However, the building was quite run down it definitely needed some work. The beds were comfortable and charging ports was a bonus but there were some stains on the beds. A big no no for us was a staff member randomly, uninvited walked in our room at 9am were some of us were getting changed and one was still asleep. She didn’t even knock on the door! We were angered by this as it was a huge invasion or privacy. The room was okay but it was very humid and not the cleanest. The shower was nice but the toilet was terrible!!!! It was a convenient place to stay but probably wouldn’t return.

I have a booking for 27th may and after multiple times of contacting the property and booking.com no one gets back to me. I rang the property and was told they can’t help me and it was all done via booking.com which wasn’t helpful at all.

Cheap, comfortable, with a fast and efficient check in. All the essential cooking facilities and utensils. And located in the heart of Cardiff. Remember to have £5 spare for deposit for the arm- band key to get into your room, just incase you paid online and have no cash on you. You get the £5 back on checkout.

Can't fault it really, especially for the price. Clean and tidy and I'm probably the fussiest person you can find. I did bring flip flops for the shower as it's shared between 2 rooms, still pretty clean though. Beds were comfy. Very basic overall but you can't complain! I didn't use the kitchen facility but it looked ok, I personally wouldn't use a communal kitchen but admittedly I'm a bit too fussy.

  • 5/5 Rareș P. 4 years ago on Google
Lovely hostel with a unique aesthetic. Everything is tidy and clean, the communal areas are warm and cozy, and the bed was wider than in other places. Good wifi coverage throughout.

Warm, quiet, clean, cosy and friendly. Big showers and rooms. Cute kitchen and communal areas. Also has recycling & food waste bins, which I am impressed by. Great place.

Really great experience at this hostel. The rooms and floors are locked which makes me feel safe! The decor is also very cute! The service at the front desk is extremely friendly and helpful. The beds have plugs and lights and lockable lockers below. The kitchen is okay and they offer cereal. Only inconvenience is that the wifi was weak in certain areas of the building. Overall, I really liked this hostel.
