We parked here as so many people had given this place 5 star. Parked up and the lift was out, we have a 3 year old and a 1 year old in a pram. The stairs were a nightmare. The staff didn't offer to help much just said an engineer would be out soon. The whole shopping centre is a ghost town, only a few small shops open. I will not be going here again.

Despite the shopping centre being nearly completely empty of shops, The Capitol insist on playing the worst collection of free music available ~ meaning you can’t enjoy your coffee in peace when sat in one of the cafes. Please just turn the music off :(

How the mighty have fallen. The vast majority of units are empty. The car park is good value if you make it for the early bird Mon-Sat but very expensive if not. Sunday and evenings are a bargain if you're in that neck of the woods, it's a bit far removed from most of the action though. NO functioning lifts so dreadful if you have mobility issues as there is now zero access apart from stairs.

The car park was useful in the centre of Cardiff, but the whole centre was closed down, shops boarded up, nothing open. Couldn't find any toilets. The whole place seemed new, but nothing to see. Is it new and no shops moved in, or have they all moved out?

Car park was severally taped off in areas, no idea if this was a safety issue as there was no signage as to why. Glad I didn't have the kids with me. The exit was POORLY sign posted for disabled access!! Signs led away from the main lifts (figured they must be closed) small lift at the stairs was not working so me and my crutches had to brave 4 flights down. On my return we went in to double check the lifts (I was exhausted at this point and couldn't face those 4 flights again) found the lifts working but again poorly signposted. Sad to see how unused the centre is tho 😕 very clean and tidy as always 👍

Lots to look at whilst walking through this centre, plenty of choices of shops etc. Worth a visit.

Mostly full of empty shops. Not worth wearing out your shoe leather going here. Just a grim reminder of the good old days but Cardiff has way too many shops for the number of shoppers and number of shops is only going to get smaller and smaller.

Empty and eerily quiet, I've used The Capitol for Tesco and Boots as well as cutting through during the bad winter weather but thats it. Not many shops there although there is an independent artist that exhibits work there which is nice to see, but otherwise aside from that and the aforementioned boots and tesco, thats it. The toilets are also always locked which is frustrating as well. I remember The Capitol when I was younger, it was always busy and there were amazing shops there, but now that is no more and I hope something good happens to it soon, its a shame its pretty much deserted.

To say "disappointing" is an understatement. Now people confuse Glamorganshire Canal with Docks Feeder. The Civil engineering isn't good either. "Twp" Welsh word for stupid comes to mind.

The Capitol used to be a very pleasant place to go through. Unfortunately a few of the shops have now gone. Those remaining are very good, but it has something missing now.

It's dire how nearly empty Capitol is. There aren't even any toilets! I hope that the newly opened Canal Quarter attracts some more businesses in here.

I only go there for car park. Not deaf friendly when ticket is not valid even though I paid. Had to deal with someone on speaker but I cannot hear what being said. Had to wait for good 10 min before they realise I am deaf and they lift the barrier.

We've been stucked in the car park for over 1h30 and we barely moved. The staff members were difficult to find and they couldn't reduce the traffic jam. Poor staff management!!!

Second time I’ve tried to park in Capitol and they have just closed off the access to allow people to queue to park. As capacity is full. This is a ridiculous new system. I pay a monthly pass and my business is on the same road. I now once again have to park somewhere else and pay an excessive day rate charge. Idiocy

I visit the Capitol Centre often, and for some strange reason they insist on playing extremely loud music (some of the worst known to man). No other shopping mall does this, there is no need to do this, there aren't any shops. Please turn it off. When I do visit the shops/cafe's I need to - the music ruins everything. I have extreme sensory issues and there is no need for you to play this music! Kindly, please stop it.

Unfortunately there are a few bad aspects like lot of stores are closed and there is no toilets accessible but it still attracts new business/initiatives that help it from feeling dead. Definitely check out Atma Lounge for vegan Indian food, Boba Time, Cafe Nero, Pink Flamingo Retro for vintage clothing and some artist studios, charities and LGBTQ+ intiatives present currently

Slowly dying I'm afraid. Not many shops or coffee shops left. It's a real pity. The few shops that are there are lovely though.

  • 1/5 jamesbtmtrains 9 months ago on Google
Rubbish place to park. Prices have just increased. No longer £1 after 6pm. Rip off. Looks like it's closed down inside with empty shops. It's cheaper to park in the St Davids shopping centre.

  • 3/5 Allen P. 9 months ago on Google
Nice to park here after working hours and if you want to enter Cardiff. I did have some issues accessing the venue at times, luckily there were people with passes to let me enter back.

I went here to visit the Vue cinema which is still advertised online as open. However, it has closed down very disappointing as I had parked up and everything. Went to cineworld instead and ended up watching a 0 star movie called Malignant. Which I followed though with candy man which was also the worst sequel of all the Candyman so far. Safe to say I won’t be going cinema for a while.

The Capitol Centre is a good place to visit Tesco Express, Falafel Corner, Muscan Brow Bar, Atma Lounge, etc. A few other shops are being planned for the future.

  • 5/5 John Lockett (. 2 years ago on Google
Parking reasonable priced, lots of shops to choose from, easy access to the highstree and a pub lunch is a must, make a day of it.

  • 2/5 Katia V. 2 years ago on Google
No more public toilet in area No point to go there especially if you have kids, you can't do your shop or sit on the coffe shop properly because you have to rush if you feel that you need toilet

  • 1/5 Dekenba 1 year ago on Google
The shopping centre time forgot. With the new centre with John Lewis as it's anchor tenant, this end of the city centre no longer has the volume to support shops. It's a shame.

  • 2/5 Dick G. 2 years ago on Google
Empty shell very sad ..extortionate rent I can imagine...when it opened it had Vidal Sasson and now a awful looking wig shop. Modern day tragedy

It's been a while, virgin megastore has been replaced by Tesco. Not as iconic as it was in the 90's with the bandstand outside but still a go to in Cardiff

  • 4/5 steve d. 1 year ago on Google

It's sad. This place used to be a bustling little hive of shops and cafes. But due to excessively high rent, the premises are a grim shadow of what used to be. There are so many empty units here and the sound of silence encompasses you as you walk through its almost empty interior. The saving grace is the gym upstairs, the car park and Tesco...

Nice big shopping centre but seems dead. Not alot of shops and Not alot going on. Empty areas need filling with things, to creat more traffic.

Good for parking not many shops still open in the centre anymore

  • 2/5 Michael K. 2 years ago on Google
This was once a vibrant centre with lots of nice shops. The opening of ST David's killed this end of the city and its not even worth visiting The Capitol Centre anymore.

  • 5/5 Stefan teffy D. 2 years ago on Google
Well maintained sadly a lot of the shops are empty however they seem to be letting independent artist use it as a temporary gallery which is wonderful

Went to Cafe Nero this morning, the lady serving is always very nice and the coffee is great. Coco Blush on the front of the Centre is a very nice place to shop, staff are polite and helpful. Tesco is very good also, well stocked and the staff there are very happy to help with queries.

Not anything to write home about. Could be better signed inside. Cafè and toilets entrances numbered to help shoppers like us who come on holiday and are not familiar with the area.

Nice to see some new shops going in here as the only time I used to call in was going to Cafe Nero after H and M moved out. I was pleasantly surprised by viysit as I went in to drop stuff off at a new store opening. Seems well worth a visit and a reason to get off at queen Street to go into the city center again.

capital used to be very good they had H & M halifax bank, pound land etc but its all empty now there is parking spaces but the access to car park is hard work they need to speak to council to remove restrictions for the traffic going in as its bus / taxi lane

  • 3/5 joel w. 1 year ago on Google
It's ok. Lots of empty spaces but a few good places. The loud music set my autism off a bit though, would be good if they turned it down or off.

  • 4/5 Olu O. 1 year ago on Google
Not the thriving venue of the past. Guess covid crippled many businesses. What remains is a few start ups, a gym and a Tesco.

  • 3/5 Jess 1 year ago on Google
not much inside but it looks cool, very different environment for me given i live in the countryside 😅
