A great place to wind down, relax and get away from civilization. There are two people who will make your stay worthwhile, thank you, Daisy and Blas! You are amazing! Unfortunately, what the hostel offers on their website is quite different than what you will find once you arrive. The beach is quite small and full of corals, and you can only access it with water shoes (which you can borrow at no cost), the water is also too shallow, which makes it not a suitable place to swim or snorkel; since it's so shallow the water always appears brownish in colour. The rooms are made up of two single beds, so if you are going as a couple, it's very uncomfortable. There is no room cleaning service after you get your room, so be careful with how much sand you take with you, we were there for 3 days and no one ever cleaned the thousands of dead ants on our door. The showers and bathrooms are a bit awkward, especially for tall people, they have very big and low windows which face the other cabin's bathrooms. Also in order to shower, you must pull on a rope in order for water to come out, so it's a challenging one handed shower experience. The food they offer is plane of taste and very expensive for what you get, they only serve the main meals, you can't order any snacks during the day. Breakfast is always the same, eggs, toast and a plate of melon, there are no other options, for people who don't eat eggs. Also, breakfast gets served for everyone at once, so don't be late, or you will be eating cold! Many people went to the hotel next door or to town to eat lunch. (Do keep in mind the town is not a touristic place). The only available access is by boat, they offer transportation once a day from their hostel in Cartagena and back, but... the problem is they leave at 10am, so if you can't make it on time, you will be stuck in Cartagena until the following day. They do not own a dock, instead they have a floating "makeshift floating dock" where people step on and they float you ashore, which was fine for us, a young couple, but it isn't suitable for elderly people, heavy people or parents with young kids, as it tips over quite easily. Because of its limited access, you will solely depend on their offer for different activities, which are expensive in comparison with main tourist hubs, especially for unprepared foreigners. We heard the guide offer many different prices for the same trip, to different people according to their nationality, so be careful to not get ripped off; do bargain the prices as they are rather fluctuating from guest to guest. If you want to see the bioluminescent plankton, this is definitively not the place to go; they won't offer it unless the Moon is absolutely absent, and the only place they travel to for this activity is right next to the town, where light and pollution make it hard to appreciate at all (you can go year round to see the plankton, but have to go to a place called "Laguna Encantada", which is out of their jurisdiction or something). All in all, it's a place to relax, kayak, read and sleep. But if you are looking for the beach, blue sea, waves, snorkelling, or trips around Barú, this is not the place to go to.

Great people, the cook Carlos was a sweetheart, but there were more. However, it is poorly organised to get there, I was scammed by local boats, the only way to get to the hostel. It sometimes felt like a prison, we left early. Recommendation: book one night and see if it is something for you. Contact them on beforehand on how to get there, they will gladly help you.

It depends on what you’re looking for, but we had a great time relaxing at the Luna Hostel. We had just wrapped up 9 days in Cartagena and needed some relaxation time for reading, goal planning, cigars and sunsets. I thought the food was good, mostly ate fish ceviche, rice and plantains! The drinks were great. You can walk down to the beach at hotel Mystic if you want to swim. But we were able to take out paddle boards, etc. from our beach. The only two negatives are that on weekends there is another club in the distance that plays loud music and the beach directly in front of the hostel is sharp coral. We were expecting rustic accommodations but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s extremely inexpensive and the boat ride from CTG was extremely fun. I’d definitely comeback to rest for a couple days in the future. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Juan was great!

When you want to unplug from the world, come to Media Luna. This magical place is peaceful, you are away from the party crowds. Carlos the cook will make you wonderful meals and Juan the bartender and manager will make sure you are taken care of. We collaborated together and made up a drink that was out of this world. All of the staff had smiles and the dogs will greet you too! I am so happy I booked three days, one is not enough and those who did regretted that. Stay a few and return home relaxed!

For the ones who are looking for a loud and crowded hostel, this is not the case, since the whole place would exclusively fit around 20 persons. Perfect for disconnection and peace. The place is completely isolated from anything so you would be lost in the island. Stood with my girlfriend for 3 nights in a private shack and thought it couldn’t be better, specially with the crew attention and kindness. The food is OK, lots of cocktails options, hammocks, kayacks, volleyball, ping-pong, karaoke and a 20 minute-jungle-walk to Barú makes it just perfect. Don’t expect white sands and turquoise waters, in fact, the hostel’s got a very small coral beach with very shallow waters but certainly nothing that spoils the picture. Prices are $$$$/5.

I had a great experience at MLHBarú. The staff were very friend and helpful (you're the best Daisi). Food was delicious and plentiful. Snacks and bar available too! If you're looking for fun at night there's board games, cards, dominoes, and also a microphone for Karaoke or just music to party. The Rosario islands, Pablo Escobar's old house and plane, and snorkling are just a boat ride away. You can also rent kayaks from the reception for a morning adventure around Isla Barú - keep in mind it is about 5 miles(picture of route included), and if the wind picks up it definitely could take over 2 hours, but worth the adventure and workout! Plus you get to coast through the mangroves of Barú! Keep in mind you're in a tropical island, it's hot and humid and could rain in the afternoons. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, your own water if you don't want to purchase it while you're there, hat or sunglasses and aloe vera in case you get burnt. Beds have nets for a restful night, ask for one if you don't have one already there. There are frogs, little crabs, fireflies, a few chickens and a rooster with 1 leg 😆, it will crowded in the mornings - as a heads up. It's easy to get to the island, just go to Media Luna Hostal in Getsemaní, minutes walking from the clock tower, and pay for your passage. It will either be by boat (+10 people) or in Camioneta (truck) with less people. I stayed 3 nights and 4 days, def longer than the usual guest who typically come for a day trip or a 1 night stay, and I was well taken care of and really felt at home.

Lovely place by the beach. The beach is private and very good to swim. Juan was very welcoming and nice and made our stay amazing, always available to help us.

1/10 - The location is perfect with a little private beach and gorgeous surroundings. However the hostel itself needs some improvement. It's very isolated, there is no access to shops to buy food and if there was there is no place to store your food making you reliant on the hostel to provide. The food is expensive and not very good, half the things on the menu aren't available which limits you even further. At one point I gave up on ordering dinner and just ordered a brownie which was handed to me in a packet, clearly bought from a supermarket and with a huge mark up of 8k. I was also quizzed by the staff when I didn't finish my plate which was quite uncomfortable as I had a skirt round the fact that the food was inedible so as not to upset the chef. It would greatly improve things if there was a option to store your own food. The bedroom is complete with mosquito net which is nice but there is no air conditioning and the fan is extremely loud, and mostly ineffective, making it impossible to sleep. There are no locks on the rooms or bathrooms and the door to my shower swung open meaning I had to hold it whenever I wanted to shower. Luckily I was the only person in the hostel but if it had been busy I would have been worried for my things and my privacy. I had booked a week here but left after the second night because it was so restrictive, uncomfortable and I was unable to sleep. It was non-refundable (I think this might happen a lot so they see an opportunity to make more money by making it non-refundable). It was worth losing the money just to leave. I would not recommended this place, it is not as advertised. I suggest you book 1 night maximum and see how you get on, don't make my mistake, you will lose a lot of money.

Very nice place and relaxing there. Superfriendly staff and beautiful sunrise and sunset. Quite hard to get there, so better for more than one night. And it is a little bit expensive for what it is.

It is a great place if you look for a relaxing time or family time. Very quiet, natural environment, exclusive beach, ecological rooms (rustic) and good service and food.

Nice place, super nice staff, but very tranquilo place. The beach is not so nice as I was imagining. There is nowhere to go, there is fence and bushes around. You can go only by boat. You can do excursions which is great and kayaking for example. I think 1 night would be enough, but I enjoyed anyway. The food muy bien, the bed was comfy, showers clean, staff funny and super cute dogs. It is more like a family house 🙂

Very relaxing place, not many people, no people trying to sell you stuff all the time like other places in Baru, staff could be nicer, except Daisy who is the best! She really helped with anything we needed, from hot water for our Mate, to storing my belongings safely! Would come back.

These guys are totally not guest-friendly. They ignore you when you ask for something. Ordered dinner, which was ready after 3 hours; without any apologize or something like that. Next, they play constantly music very loud; only for theirselfs. They definitely need a course in hospitality....

😠 A very bad rip-off experience: My review concerns the restaurant (not the hotel). A tour from Cartagena took us to this place to eat lunch which was "included" in the price. When we arrived at the restaurant, the waiter asked us whether we wanted to eat fish, shrimps, ceviche (and some other option...
