Our family recently stayed at the Dunhill for a wedding weekend. The family and friends had about 10-15 rooms in total at the hotel. I have read the reviews and quite honestly I believe the reviewers were staying at a different hotel than the establishment we stayed at for two evenings. Our experience started out at check in where the pricing for the room varied, even for the same type of room. They seemed to have six different prices for the rooms which was astonishing for a group that was booking that many rooms. While pricing for most things today seems upside down, there was no way in my opinion the size or the condition of the rooms warrant the price we paid I looked at the pictures of the rooms on the website and quite honestly the rooms do not look anything like they appear on the website. The furnishings are a combination of 1950’s furniture with a mixture of nixed up pieces of old wood furniture. We supposedly at a queen size bed and if that is the case then the mattress needs replacement. The lobby furniture was old and worn with the cushions basically gone. I felt as if I needed to apply an ample amount of antibacterial lotion on my hands after sitting on the furniture. The staff was generally pleasant but didn’t take the issues we spoke to them about with any sense of urgency or ownership. There is no way I would stay at this establishment again in the future and hope you take this review seriously.

My sister and I were in town for a girl’s night. We booked a room at the Dunhill through a third party, at a discounted rate. We enjoyed our stay! The lady at the front desk was very helpful and kind. Parking was super easy. There’s a garage right behind it and you grab a ticket and they validate it at the front desk. There’s a bar in the lobby. The room was small but in a quaint-has everything you need-kind of way. Very clean. I would look into staying again!

Do not bother spending your money on this hotel. My wife and I decided to stay at this hotel on our way to visit family up north. She likes historical hotels and she heard this one had a good restaurant to get service from so she booked it. When she called down the lady on the other end told her she was new and asked if she could wait 5 minutes and call back so she could find someone else to help her. No problem. After 5-10 minutes, my wife called back down and they wouldn't pick up. She rang them four times, I rang them twice just to confirm, and they simply would not pick up the phone. Now this aside, there were obvious stains on the carpet as well as some minor stains on the bedding, some of which were a little worn through. The electrical socket sparked pretty good at me when I plugged my phone charger in, the elevator panel wasn't secured on the lobby floor, and the entire hotel had a feeling of disrepair to it. All these things together made me happier to leave than to arrive and disappointed that we spent that kind of money, including the additional parking fee, on a bad experience. Stay elsewhere.

Do not let the convenience of this location lure you in to thinking you will have a great experience. Charged for parking when I didn't even have a car. credit received back but then was double charged again. lack of training. Cleaning crew shows up at my door at 8:30 PM asking to clean the room after I had been gone all day. Internet was not working and staff had no idea how to remedy the issue. The worst part is they had no interest in resolving the issue. Front desk clerk, simply said, I'm not a technician. Rude and no training in common hospitality.

We went for a romantic anniversary. We got the penthouse and had no regrets. Susan and Igor were amazing and helped with all our needs. We were so happy they were able to accommodate us so well. From the moment you walk in the hotel bar you can feel the classy charm of the past. The bar selection was excellent too. We ended up going with a bottle of Johnny Walker blue, black, and then an Eagle Rare 10 year. I was so impressed. The rose petal arrangement on the bed, chocolates, bottles, balconies, shower, and breakfast were all so dreamy and just what we needed! Plus the bed and pillows were so comfy. I got the best sleep! I was mildly concerned with staying in the city and the noise level but the bedroom was dark and quiet - perfection. The furniture was great. Whoever did these rooms I am so happy they went with furniture that fit the era. It fit so well. The large chair in the bedroom and the walnut nightstand were my favorites. Biggest highlights for us: The staff! Your people make your place, and they made it so perfect. Everyone was extra kind. It made a big impact on me and our stay. Breakfast! Get the biscuits. Wow good! The view from the balconies, the marble and tile in the bathroom, THREE shower heads, original painting, classy decor, original tile in the elevator and penthouse... really I could go on.

I absolutely love this hotel! It was gorgeous the restaurant was amazing, and the bar was on point. At the heart of uptown Charlotte it was a great place to walk to the theater, and everything we did this weekend. Anybody who's looking for an amazing stay with awesome staff clean rooms and overall one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had should consider staying here while in Charlotte!

I was hoping for a better experience at The Dunhill for New Year's Eve with my girlfriend, but this hotel left a lot to be desired. I wanted to have a special occasion with my woman in the city and this was not the place for it. For starters, I'd called ahead of time when I booked the room to sign up for the romance package which was supposed to include rose petals on the bed along with a bottle of champagne and chocolate truffles. The concierge I spoke with told me she made a note in my booking so that it would be ready for us but when we entered the room, nothing had been done. Very disappointing considering I had built up the experience of going to this lodging with my girlfriend, telling her to expect something special in Charlotte when we arrived - only to find nothing of the kind waiting for us. Thanks for that. I'd also made reservations at The Asbury, a restaurant attached to the hotel, only to have the rezzy cancelled last minute. I understand that things happen (according to the message there had been a fire in the restaurant?) but we were very excited to try out the cuisine and to not find out that our reservation was cancelled and the restaurant was closed until we were trying to open the door and walk in was unacceptable. I apparently had missed the text they sent me about it, which they sent at 5PM when the reservation was at 5:30PM that day. Not a good look. As if that weren't enough, the place wasn't very clean at all. There were some stains on the bed sheets, as well as bugs (spiders) in the room, multiple bobby pins were found in the carpet, and to top it off, there was a big wad of some woman's hair stuck to the wall of the shower. Disgusting. The room itself was okay, a little outdated, which I wasn't expecting from the photos. There were barely any outlets to use for charging electronics, and they were all difficult to get to. Lacking basic amenities like a fridge or microwave. The bathroom was nice, but the walls were super thin and you could clearly hear the people in the next room talking through it and they weren't even talking loudly, just normal conversation but I could hear everything they said. You expect more when you pay hundreds of dollars for a one night stay. The location is the only thing this place had going for it. I had planned on a nice romantic stay in a historic hotel downtown and instead received a subpar lodging at an exorbitant price that I now regret paying. I feel like I got scammed. I'd rather have paid to stay in a Days Inn downtown than this place. Very disappointed in my experience here and will never be booking a room at this establishment again. I'd ask for a refund but I know that won't happen. Nothing about this place was worth the cost.

Great location with beautiful view. Friendly staff. Swanky style and that's about it. The Vintage Queen room was underwhelming for $230+/night with no outlet next to my side of the bed to charge my phone. I had to charge it across the room. There was one tiny trash can in the bathroom, no other bin in the room. The bathroom counter had dirt or coffee grounds on it. The shower had no cover to the drain and the grout was dirty. They placed our fresh linens on the shower threshold/floor. The marble tile had failing grout and was cracking. The shower didn't drain until halfway through the shower so I was standing in grimy water - gag. To top it off, there was a carpet beetle trailing across the bed when we walked into our room for the first time. $230/night?! It's asinine. I wanted to switch rooms but it was late and my husband reassured me that carpet beetles were no big deal. All I truly want when I travel is a clean and comfortable room. I don't need extras but we booked this room because of the cleanliness rating and a Priceline deal. "Luxury" hotels need to stop relying on their location and/or modern decor style and realize that nothing takes you further than comfort and cleanliness. If you're cleaning a shower between every guest visit then you should never have dirty grout. Management needs to take pride and ownership in how this place is run rather than relying on it's location and charming history to book their rooms.

One of my friends recently booked a room here and I called the hotel to surprise them with a bottle of wine. Jasmine was the person I spoke with and she was delightful and extremely helpful in making sure that my request was possible. Even though she was not there when my friends checked in, she made sure that they had the bottle delivered to their room upon check in. Thank you so much, Jasmine. Your customer service is exceptional!

Stayed at this place with my friend during Heroes Con, and being that it was called "the historic Dunhill Hotel" we thought there might be some spooky hauntings happening! However, we didn't experience any supernatural happenings while we were there. The hotel was located only a short walk from the convention hall which is where we spent a good majority of our time during our stay in Charlotte. The staff were absolutely brilliant and had plenty of suggestions on where to eat, and what to see while we were in the neighborhood. Not to mention they were extremely friendly always quick with a smile and a greeting! My one complaint was that the hotel bar had weird hours, 5-10 if I recall correctly. Which might be a drawback for anyone who is a night owl or fighting a bought of insomnia and looking for a night cap. All-in-all super happy with my stay!

Hotel was great in general. The room I stayed in was clean and roomy enough for me, however I think it costs too much for its actual value. The manager Sole R. is one of the nastiest and most unprofessional people I have ever met in customer service, but regular front desk staff were very friendly, understanding, and welcoming to me and my situation. I view it as crazily problematic that there is no one (so I was told anyway) higher than this manager to complain about the manager to. Who holds her accountable? Based on other reviews other people have had similar experiences.

The hotel it’s self was nice, safe and comfortable. I stayed one night and booked through a 3rd party online. Which took the money from my account 3 days prior to my stay. However, the hotel put a hold of over $130.00 on my account, that I was told would come off the day I checked out, which was 4 days ago now. Then charged my account $181.26 for the room I already paid for through the 3rd party online. I called to get assistance in getting my over $300 that is either still on hold, 4 days later, and a refund for the room I already paid for and all they told me was they released it or refunded it today, 4 days later, and I have to take it all up with my bank. Not to mention they charged my for “snacks” that I never had. If your looking for a comfortable stay that will screw you over later, this is the place!!!

Great event staff! I hosted a bridal shower banquet event in the Parlor Room. There were a few communication issues with a sales manager leading up to the event but the event staff went above and beyond correcting and making up for it on the day of. I highly recommend working with Adrienne Burke on any event and Turner was a great help bringing in all of our items, setting up, etc. Attaching photos of the room when I toured ahead of event. Great unique space!

I checked in yesterday and Eve at the front desk was so welcoming and friendly, I had a blast at the hotel bar meeting locals and other people that were visiting town. This hotel has such a cozy friendly atmosphere and the staff is amazing and very customer service oriented. Not to mention how centrally located is, walking distance to everything, if you are a meat lover, visit Chima, a brazilian steakhouse down the street from the hotel that has the most amazing steaks buffet style, fresh meats sliced on your plate, amazing experience !

This hotel takes you back in time. Hotel staff (especially the housekeeping lead for the time I was there) was kind and gracious. They allowed us to check in very early as soon as a room was clean. Our flight was super early. Rooms were clean and spacious. Had a king bed. Would stay again.

We stayed at The Dunhill for the third time in 10 years, and, oh my, the place should be renamed "The Downhill." The most egregious example is the toilet tissue in (I assume) every guest room. It's see-through. And it does a very poor job of functioning for its intended purpose. Even using multiple layers is no help. If you choose to pay nearly $300 (the least expensive room) for a one-night's stay I would encourage you to bring your own supply. You will not regret it.

This a very wonderful place I'd recommend anyone to stay if your looking for a romantic getaway with a nice twist. It has history, romance, delicacies and is located in the heart of downtown (uptown)Charlotte. The staff was very welcoming and the experience was very comfortable to say the least. It felt like home. The luxury touched with the comforting welcome made for a wonderful trip. Parking is covered and access to the main city is easily accessible on foot. This facility is also secure, making it ideal for anyone new to the area. Refreshments were offered and hospitality was limitless, I look forward to staying again.

I'd give 10 stars if I could. Chef driven food, classy rooms, and top notch service all around. Clearly this hotel is operated by true professionals who care. Enjoy the ambiance, enjoy the food, hands down a real gem that deserves the highest of recognition. There's a true prohibition feel, while upholding a sense of elegance. This is Charlotte's best. Do yourself a favor and stay here. The price for what you get, is worth every penny. The rooms are spacious, but what sold me, was the professionalism. Amazing establishment.

This place was an absolute dream from check-in to check-out! Everyone on staff was friendly, helpful and kind. My wife and I got a much needed weekend away from the kids for my birthday and they made the entire stay so personal and inviting. They even upgraded our room to one with a gorgeous view of the city and gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne. I couldn't have asked for a better stay! I will always stay here when I come and visit Charlotte.

Dirty. That is the first word that comes to mind. When we first arrived I noticed that everything had the vague smell of cigarette smoke. When I went to shower I found several hairs left from the previous guest on the walls. When we got into bed I noticed the sheets were rough with several holes near the feet. I called the front desk, and they sent up someone who smelled like an ash tray and handed me a new set of sheets. No one ever apologized. When I went to change the sheets the mattress was covered in urine stains. The ceiling was stained, the knobs on the dresser were broken off, their were drink rings on the tables. There were drops of old blood stains on the duvet cover that was not even out on all the way. It just looked like it had never been cleaned. All around dirty, terrible service. The only benefit is the location but downtown is covered in better options. *update* upon responding that this will be shared with management, I still have not heard any response about our stay*

Very enjoyable stay. Beds were super comfy, staff was very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were very nice! The only negative thing I have to say is that the shower didn't drain very well. But I would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone!!

This hotel is awful. They cancel your reservations without warning days before your event and offer nothing in return. The professionalism is lacking and the response I was given when I called to inquire was, “Maybe you should spend your time looking for other hotels instead of speaking with us.” Do not spend your money here or book a “fake” reservation.

The The Dunhill Hotel was the best hotel experience I have ever had. Every inch of the place is beautiful, from the staff to the bathrooms. The room smelled heavenly, even the elevator smelled good.

I got a call from the hotel a few days prior to the trip saying the room is no longer available. It was such short notice, but ok, I understand, things happen. But I wish the staff (male staff J) was professional and courteous when calling about this situation. When asked about the short notice, "it's not just you, we had to call other people to cancel rooms". no apology from staff. no other alternatives are offered by the hotel.

LOVED EVERYTHING! The location is amazing! The hotel has real charm in the decor & neat history. The room felt very cozy. Loved complementary cookies & tea/coffee every evening. The staff were all wonderful and answered our questions well. It was perfect for a stress-free getaway that was something different than the average hotel. Will be back!

My Dunhill experience was more than delightful!!! It was my first time staying there and it will not be the last! When I sat down at the bar, our bartender Erica was extremely professional and made sure that mine and my guest's drinks were made to perfection. Erica definitely made my Charlotte experience worth while.

Friendly and courteous staff. Love the details with the architecture. Really cool displays, although I'd like to know more about the antiques. Only thing I wish our room had, and we were aware when booking, isa mini-fridge.

We have stayed at the Dunhill several times in the past. We will not again after this last experience. We check in and are assigned a room. We unlock the door only to find it occupied by other guests! We go back to the front desk and the lady says she is in training and doesn’t know how to resolve the situation. I ask why can’t you just look up in your system and find a vacant room. She says she has to call her manager. We have dinner reservations so I leave my bags and she says she will have it sorted out when we get back. She did not. Instead of finding another room they moved the other people out of the first room we were assigned only to find there was no running water in the bathroom. Okay well what about a different room. At this point she was more interested in copping an attitude than helping and says maybe the guy who is coming to relieve her can sort it out. It took him a while but he eventually assigns us a different room. We are glad to get in a room finally only to find there was no running water in that bathroom either. I understand there were some issues with utility work affecting the water but that doesn’t explain the simple inability to assign an unoccupied room and being willing to help a guest having a problem. When we checked out the front desk guy said the manager would be getting in a little later and he would have him call me. I never received a call.

The staffing is clearly an issue here. I found a used condom on the floor beside the curtains, not even completely hidden by the curtain. There was also a spot of blood on the bathroom floor.the phone was also sticky, and had obviously not been cleaned. When I checked in, there was no one at the counter and I had to wait almost 10 minutes before someone came. There was also no staff on several occasions when I attempted to call or speak with someone in person. Physically, the hotel is beautiful, and the small rooms were nice enough. The chairs were pretty uncomfortable, so bought for design only. Obviously they need new management to revamp the operations, and this could be a nice place.

I don’t want to give a bad review because the staff was great and the charm and appeal of the history of the hotel is great, but I must say, if you have allergies, do not stay here, haha. It’s not necessarily anyone’s fault but because it is an older hotel, everything is a little musty and dusty and I couldn’t sleep because I was having sneezing attacks all night. The bed we had was very soft so if you like firmer mattresses, that is something to note. Staff was very friendly though, so I don’t have any issue with that. Parking is $23 for the garage. Rooms are small, no fridge, small television, but did have a desk and a chair. Lighting was minimal, but again, as long as you don’t mind these things, just noting how it was for our room. Bathroom was nice, shower head puts out a LOT of water, more than we were used to. Not a complaint, though. Just beware If you have sensitive allergies, my nose started getting bloody from how much I was sneezing and blowing my nose throughout the night. Personally wouldn’t stay here again just for that fact, but otherwise is a cute spot in a good location to walk/bike/scooter to many bars/restaurants nearby.

While the Dunhill itself was a good stay, it was the hospitality from John the bartender that really put my stay into 5 star range. He was kind, made great drinks, shared great facts about Charlotte and provided the highest level of hospitality. I would certainly recommend this hotel again, but only STRONGLY if John is there to greet them with a story and a drink.

Visited relatives that were staying here. Beautiful interiors and perfect location. Had brunch and the service was great as well as the dishes. I had the blackened kale salmon salad with a side of honey Greek yogurt. So good. Had my eye on the banana pudding pancakes, chicken biscuit/sandwich and the classic breakfast as well.

Clean spacious rooms. Seems to be well kept! I enjoyed the aroma when entering the room. It was expected and just made it that much more special. Excellent customer service. The bar in the lobby is great and inexpensive. Grab a drink on your way in and out 🙌🏾

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. It's right in the middle of Charlotte's downtown and walking distance from highly rated restaurants and fun things to do like the science museum. In the room we had the view was fantastic. You have to pay for parking but we didn't need to drive most places because the location is so walkable. Everyone we interacted with was very nice and accommodating. You can tell that the staff are proud of the hotel. At night they had cookies out and you can enjoy some very good free tea and coffee any time. The rooms are amazing. I stayed with my husband in the Premier Room, which has one queen bed. The furniture was in good condition, very classy but not old. There are charging outlets for different types of devices. The TV was very nice and had a good sound system. A few times I felt like I could hear my neighbors a little bit it wasn't bad. Also I love the shower. It had a horizontal showerhead thing so you could get two sources at once. Water pressure was great. So yeah we loved it! Hope we can stay again some day.
